The gossip mill in a school is just insane.  I am right there with you regarding the attention.  I enjoy being part of the group, but not a center stage type at all.   I think right now I am just a bit more sensitive than normal because I feel pretty crappy.  I am pretty sure that once everybody sees me and gets it out of their system then hopefully they will move on.

Topic: RE: Question about sleep studies and sleep apnea prior to VSG
Before I was a teacher I worked in a sleep lab for many, many years...

Surgery on folks with apnea is simply dangerous if it is not treated with cpap.  Apnea works like this:  patient falls asleep, patient loses muscle tone, airway is blocked due to lack of tone, patient drops o2 levels to sometimes frightening levels, patient wakes themselves up, patient regains muscle tone, airway opens, patient falls back asleep and cycle repeats.

The anesthesia relaxes those muscles even more, and you can forget about the waking up part.  Perhaps your surgeon keeps a cpap on hand in case they notice apnea is undiagnosed and they just slap on a self adjusting model for the surgery.  No idea, but if he is willing to do surgery on an apnea patient that is not treating the apnea than that would be a red flag to do your homework on that guy.

Holy crap.  I am SO SICK of everybody commenting on the weight loss- seriously I think I lost about 20 poundsish since they last saw me.  It is not like all of a sudden at this point.  Of course, I happen to be nasty sick this week, naseua, vomiting, etc.  I am pretty much a workaholic so it is glaringly obvious that I have missed most of this week.  Between that and the short haircut and recent cancer surgery I am once again dealing with everybody convinced I am dying.  I know, I know... I could just come out but the discrimanation at work is preventing it.  My boss was in my room 4 separate times asking if if I could "handle" various duties and that if I wasn't well enough he could help.  Seriously, this man really needs to start freaking listening when I tell him the cancer is managed.  (I can't say quite say free of any trace of cancer as I just had another biopsy 2 days ago- but here's hoping it comes back negative.)   Between the surgery two weeks ago, the short curly hair due to the weight loss and mild hair loss, the overwhelming naseau this week I can see why he thinks I am cancer sick, not just flu sick.  But damn, I wish he would just listen and not try to be my flipping doctor!!!

How is everybody else managing the transitiion back into the classroom?  Are you getting bombarded with comments, and if so in a good or bad way?

Ok, I cannot keep the teacher blood in me at bay... In your ticker you spelled "looser".  Your clothes might be "loose" after massive weight loss and you could also probably give your friends great tips on how to "lose" weight.  The spelling you are looking for is "loser".  I am a typo queen myself, but since this was in your ticker I thought I would mention it.  So sorry for the unsolicited spelling lesson,  I just can't help it.

Plenty.  No avoiding it.  My new nemisis is with the last 10 or so pounds lost I have these nasty skin rolls on the back.  ugh.  The abdomen is just terrible, some thigh issues.  Noticed that where I shave the armpits the bottom of that area now nearly sits at my waist.  The sagging skin on my back could be confused for a butt.  Ya know what though- it is still way better than being super fat.

Look for the gaterade that has the word zero at the end- no issues with sugar then.  It does help fend of dehydration, but you likely couldn't even tolerate the sweetness of the sugar variety let alone the empty calories.

Are you allowed to use protein powder or cream of chicken soup that is a high protein?

Isopure plus counts as clear liquid and is loaded with protein.  Some can't stand it, but I did great with it.  You can find it at a gnc or vitamin world and in some drug stores.  Don't buy a case until you try it post op though.

I usually pick up the items at netrition.com- flat rate shipping.  I am not sure, however, how the product price compares to the waldenfarms.com site.    I shop at Kroger and can't believe I never noticed it there.  I am wondering if that varies by location.  Last year I did a search on where to find their products and only 1 store about 20 minutes from me carried it.  Hence, netrition became my source.

I have the honey bbq sauce, but have not tried it yet.  Once I am done barfing up a lung I will give it a whirl and let you know...

I think it really depends on what your calorie range is.  I have a general rule of 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories.  You didn't post what the carbs were, but if it was loaded with sugar I would avoid it for that reason.  Not saying I am a low carb person, but I try not to go over 15 for a snack and 30 for a meal.  If it hit that then I would be just fine with it on occasion.  I eat 1200 cals, so it would fit just fine in my daily plan, but for somebody like Rob it wouldn't provide enough substance for the calories.  Just depends on what your plan is and how it affects you.  Make sure it is not a trigger food before you start keeping it in your house.  And now I am going to go look for this product, as it is the first I have heard of it!

In my group there were also variences between the Nuts so I feel for you on that.  8 weeks out I was at 600-800 cals, all nuts in agreement.  About 3 months 800-1000, 1 Nut not in agreeemnent- she had me go back to 600.  I was miserable, back to the Nuts and again the 800-1000 was confirmed.  A few months after that (month 5 I think?) 1000-1200 and this is where I hit the advocated plan given by the Nuts.  They did all say that there is a gradual increase in the cal range that followed what was outlined above.  I do not do low carb, but I also do a minimal amount of grains.  You can friend me at MFP and check my diary if you want to see a more accurate progression.  I am idateacher2 over there.

Our bodies need time to catch up, so the scale doesn't move for a bit.  Pay attention to inches, as you will typicaly find that you are losing inches during the stalls.  3 weeks out is a super common time to hit your first stall too- do a search on the 3 week stall and you will find all kinds of posts on it.  Your body will also hold on to fluid if you are not getting enough in causing the weight to go u*****t show loss- if you are only drinking 32 ounces you are no where near enough on the fluids.  You need to shoot for a minimum of 64 a day.  Keep working on your protein too- skip the farina and do protein shakes instead if need be.  Farina, by the way, triggered a lot of hunger for me in those first couple weeks- I felt better when I stopped eating it.

Congrats on the 9 pounds- you are doing splendidly!  It only gets better!!

 Hey Doggz,

Have your labs been done?  Try putting a smidge more of sodium in your diet and work on the electrolytes (gaterade zero).  This helped level things out a bit for me.  I also freeze, but have low iron even though I take 2 multis a day.  I started tracking iron on Mfp and realized that I was eating very little.  I am pretty sure it is typical for me to eat more than you and I too am protein focused, so maybe track that iron for a bit to see where it is from your diet.  I hope you feel better.
