12 Weeks Post Op

Apr 27, 2017

I am down to 230.2 Lbs, and lost 3 Lbs this past week; woohoo!  So happy that I'm still losing.

I've been swimming laps at the pool, an hour each time, and loving it!  Here's a shot of my pool, including the wading pool, main pool, and indoor hot tub. There's also an indoor waterfall that goes into the wading pool, an outdoor waterfall, stream, and hot tub.  It's really pretty.

Today I met with my dietician via telehealth.  The meeting went well and she said I'm doing great and have already lost 45% of my excess weight.  She said she didn't expect to see that until my 6 month post op visit and that I am far ahead; woohoo. She was also concerned that maybe I'm not getting in enough calories, although she was happy with my calories when I told her about them.  She wants me to up my carbs and said I may be getting dizzy with exercise because my carbs are so low (under 50 grams, but often under 30).  She wants me to introduce more healthy carbs. I asked if that would slow down my weight loss and she said no, so hopefully she's right.  I do eat some carbs, but not many.

About the 45% lost, I'm really happy about that, because my goals for myself are different than their goals for me.  They said I will lose 50-65% of my excess weight by the time I'm finished with this process.  I want to lose ALL of the excess weight, or at least as much as I can.  I'd at least like to lose 80% of the excess weight, at minimum.  I didn't go through all of this just to lose half of the weight; sheesh.

I am concerned about my dizziness though.  I get dizzy when I go upstairs, or walk or bike up an incline, even a gentle one.  My asthma is fine and I don't need to take my puffers, which is nothing short of miraculous, but now instead of getting short of breath, I get super dizzy, to the point where I once had to get off my bike and sit on the sidewalk with my head down between my legs until it passed. It's a terrible feeling.

I see my doctor next week, on May 5th, and will ask him if he things my water pills need the dosage adjusted.  In the meantime, I'm only taking them every other day rather than every day.  I can't go without altogether as my hands, face, ankles and feet puff up.  Some people on the forums suggested upping my salt content but I can't do that while I'm retaining water.  I'll try eating more carbs before excercising to see if it makes a difference.

So far swimming is best excercise for me as I don't get dizzy swimming.  I think it's because I'm in a prone position while I swim, which my head seems to like.  I'm also fine lying down at home, but sometimes when I'm sitting up, just moving a bit makes my head pound, and it's like I can hear my pulse beating loudly, and I feel lightheaded.  I hate it, lol.

Other than that, I'm doing great and feeling fine.  I went to the pool and did my hour of laps after my appointment and it was lovely.  I had the entire pool to myself for 45 minutes, and then shared it with a small family for the last 15.  They had an adorable baby daughter with full head full of brown curls. She was so cute!

Last week I swam laps for half an hour, then went in the hot tub for 5 minutes, then swam laps for another half hour.  Today I was able to swim laps for the full hour, non stop, and then after I went in the hot tub for 10 minutes. Then I went back in the pool and did some water exercises for 15 minutes.  By then my skin was all pruney so I had to get out, lol.

I also had some great NSV's.  I rememberd I had put a bag of pants that were too tight for me away before surgery.  I found them today and tried them all and they are ALL too big except for one pair of jeans.  I haven't worn the jeans in over 13 years so I was thrilled to fit into them.  They are size 18.  The pants that were too big now but too tight before surgery were mostly size 20's and 22's.  I was in a 22-24W before surgery, so I've gone from 24 to an 18 in 3 months!  Here are some of the pants that are too big, and the jeans that fit:

Here's a picture of my size 4X pants vs my now size 1X pants.

Here they are again, showing more than just the sizes:
