Poem: Proud Of My Bat Wings

Proud Of My Bat Wings

by OH Member Laurie Bernier AKA sookie77

My name is Laurie Bernier and I am 2 ½ years post-op.  I have lost 150 lbs since my journey began.  I was at first a WLS spouse (Hubby had his surgery 1 year before me), but I knew after losing my mom that I needed to make a change if I wanted to be around for my children.  I love to cook and that was a huge part of our eating issues.  I am so excited and proud of where I am now and how far I have come.

It has not been an easy road and there are many ups and downs but that is life!  I wrote this poem a while ago but thought I would share with everyone.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do and may you laugh and enjoy life every day.  This poem was written in May of 2012.

Proud Of My Bat Wings

Saggy, baggy wiggly skin
I can now see a dimple in my chin.

I have bat wings, but I cannot fly
Wait, is that a sparkle in my eye.

The stretch marks are showing,
But my face is glowing.

Size 24 was what I wore
Size 10 is now in my drawers.

People would look around or through me,
Today they all want to be me.

I love my saggy baggy skin,
It is a triumph of where I have been.

Chin up, smile out, this is me happy no doubt!
