Being an L&D nurse, I can highly recommend the IUD.  It's a great birth control method for people that already have children.  Most people do not gain weight and it should really help with your anemia issue.  Try it, what do you have to lose?  If you're not happy, you can always have it removed later on.  My friends that have them have not gained weight at all.

You are nearly a year post-op so you should be able to try everything.  I was released to try anything after 6 weeks.  I'm 4 years post RNY and still can't tolerate milk based foods or greasy foods.  Everything else is fine.  Keep a food log and concentrate on solid protein first.  Grazing and eating soft slider foods are what keep most people from being successful.

Methodist hospital is close by and has a bariatric program.  I used to work there and loved it but it's been so many years, I don't know any bariatric surgeons there.  Unfortunately if you end up in any ER, you end up with whatever doc is "on call" for that particular day.

Thanks for the offer Tracey-I'll certainly let them know.  Unfortunately with these knees and hips I can't join you but I am very proud of you for doing it.  Can't wait to cheer you on as you run the marathon.

Any major hospital in the DFW metroplex has a bariatric program and should be fine.  It would help to know where in Dallas you'll be.

Topic: RE: Struggling with regain or maintaining?
Are you struggling to get rid of some regain or having a hard time maintaining your loss?  If so help is on the horizon.  We have a PRIVATE OH message board group that has openings for a few new members.

The requirements are:
- no newbies-you must be 2 years out
- must be willing to support others as well as work on your own issues.
-you must actively post and participate. (There will not be a "required #of posts per week" but if you haven't posted in a month, you will be removed from the group.
-anything said on the board is to remain on the board.
-we will have a Monday Morning weigh-in that I would REALLY like everyone to participate in.
-no rants/raves will be tolerated: no political/religious posts (unless they directly relate to your weight loss journey), no personal attacks, etc. I will personally monitor what is said and block any post I consider offensive or not "healthy" for the group.
- We also have our "train" where we can talk about our daily lives so we continue to grow as friends.

If you are interested in joining, please either post here or send me a PM and tell me a little about your situation.   I will choose about 5 new members now and will probably add more later.  I just don't want the group too grow to fast all at once so if you don't get chosen this first time, be patient I will hang onto your info and add more soon.  I will need your email address to send you an invite.  I'm looking forward to hearing from you!!

I don't live in your part of town but wanted to let you know that I had a revision from a lapband to RNY almost 4 years ago.  It was the best decision I've ever made.  I got to goal in less than a year and have been able to maintain it (so far) with a lot of hard work.

Honey, I've been at goal for a couple of years and sometimes I still feel fat!!  Because you started at a higher BMI than some of us, it might take a little longer for everyone to notice.  I started at 250 and people didn't even notice til I lost 50 lbs.  You are doing an amazing job and the weight loss shows it.  Hang in there and before you know it, you'll be buying new clothes every month.

Congratulations!!  I didn't use Dr Nick but he has a great reputation so you're in good hands.  I also didn't have the sleeve but I have 2 friends that did and the pain was minimal and easily manageable with pain meds.

Of course you want to eat~you're convinced you'll never eat again, lol!!  We all went through that feeling.  I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to find anything to eat cuz I'm so fussy but it turns out I can eat anything I want just smaller portions.  So take a deep breath and hold on for your dear life cuz this is gonna be a wild ride~get to know you're local thrift stores cuz you're gonna be shopping for new clothes every month for the next year!!

Kim, I'm looking at being a vendor again this year in NOLA.  I can't find vendor info anywhere-let me know where to look or send it to me when you have time.  I actually will probably need 2 booths this year so let's get lots of people registered!!

I'm nearly 4 years post-op have always gotten my vitamins from Walmart and have had perfect labs every time.  I used Flinstones for over 2 years without any problems.  My doctor even recommended them.  I compared the amts listed on the bottle to those of the Bariatric Advantage ones and it was almost identical.  I also buy some from Puritan-they usually run buy 2 get 3 free sales. (google them online and see what their current sale is).

Topic: RE: Need nutritional/vitamin help-4 yrs post op

First off, you've come to the right place asking for help.  Secondly, alcohol does not stretch your pouch but it can lead to cross adddictions and add unncecssary calories to your daily intake so I'm glad you are alcohol free.

I'm 3.5 years out from RNY and at goal so let me tell you what I do:

Vitamins:
WM version of adult Centrum (Swallow it whole-I don't crush any of my pills)
Sublingual B-12-2500 mcg/day (your's is probably plenty)
Super B complex
Zinc-50 mg day
Vitamin C-one chewable daily (500mg I think)
Citracal Petite Calcium (MUST be citrate, not carbonate) 2 every day.
Vitamin D-2000mcg/day
I do not take iron cuz my levels are good.

When is the last time you had you labs done?  They should be done every 6 months.

I eat approx 1200 calories a day.  I focus on LEAN SOLID PROTEIN so it keeps me full longer.  In order to lose weight, go back to the basics-WATER-at least 64 oz a day.  No drinking for 30 min after meals, solid protein first, avoid slider foods that get digested too quickly and don't leave you feeling full.  CLEAN all the JUNK out of the house-if it's around, you'll be tempted.  I keep a snack basket that contains snacks that are 100-150 calories each and PLAN them into my day.  The key is to plan your meals, log your food and be accountable for everything that goes into your mouth.  Back to basics...you CAN do it.  (Hope this helps).
