I was only there for 14 hours post RNY so all I needed was my robe and good walking shoes.  I wore my own bright purple gown, robe and slippers and had my purple glasses on and the nurses kept kidding me about how fabulous I looked as I walked the halls.  I did not read or even watch TV.  I did pack a snack bag for hubby so he'd have some treats.  Oh, I forgot bring GAS-X STRIPS.  They melt on your tongue and work great.  (what the nurses didn't know, didn't hurt them, lol...BTW-I'm an RN).  Burt's Bees is my favorite too-I didn't need it but bring it just in case.  Might want to include your hairbrush/comb and loose clothes to wear home.  Nothing snug on the tummy.

My whole experience is written on my profile if you want to read about it.  Good luck and keep asking questions.

You can take communion once you're cleared for regular food-not before then.

Scuba diving is fine once you're completely healed and up to the physical part.  You will be weak and tired for a while but certainly by 5-6 months out.

Check at GNC stores in your area (call them) and see if they carry "Max protein".  Only certain ones do but I've never met anyone that doesn't really like Max.  The chocolate is great-it doesn't have that "whey" aftertaste.  I mix mine with one cup of Hood's Calorie Countdown CHOCOLATE dairy product (in the milk section at walmart), then I throw in a few frozen strawberries and a splash of sugarfree coconut syrup (world market) and blend and freeze.  In about an hour it's ready to eat like ice cream.

The headaches might actually be from the dramatic calorie reduction.  I drank NOTHING but Diet Coke prior to my surgery and luckily had no caffeine withdrawal symptoms whatsoever.  BUT even now if I don't eat enough, I get terrible headaches.

Which surgery are you having?  Do you have to do a pre-op diet?  If you do, that can be tough at the holidays but it will all be worth it in the end.

Topic: RE: Regain Board

Several of us recently started a "Regain Board" that is a PRIVATE OH group and we are currently looking to add a couple of new members.  We purposely put a limit on how many people could join so it wouldn't become overwhelming.  Due to the lack of participation by a few members, we now have a couple of openings.

RULES:
You MUST be over 2 years out from surgery AND have experienced at least a 15 lb regain.

You MUST be an active participant-if you don't post 2-3 times a week your membership will be terminated. (as recently happened).

You MUST be willing to work hard to lose your regain.  This is a NO FLUFF board-if you talk the talk, you better walk the walk or except the fact that we're gonna call you on it.  It's not fairy farts and rainbows-we don't accept excuses (unless REALLY legitimate) and we don't accept WHINING.

What is said on the board, STAYS on the board-it is private for this very reason.  No one is allowed to lurk and not participate because some very serious topics are discussed and it NEEDS to remain private.  It is a SAFE place to be able to express what you feel and know that it's not going to be spread around as gossip.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please PM me.  There are 5 moderators who will all vote for admission.  Remember we only have a couple spots this time so if you don't get in, hang in there.  I'll keep your info for when more spots open.  If you can't commit to the posting requirement, please don't apply.  All we ask is for 10 minutes/day 3 days a week minimum...Aren't you worth that?

Topic: RE: Touched by an idea
I have friends that have put a charm on their charm bracelet for every 10 lbs they lost or a bead on a necklace-I don't quilt but it sounds like a good idea.  Quite a few people have bought journey lockets-where they put their starting weight inside as a constant reminder of where they came from-that number never changes unlike the "number of pounds lost".

Lynne, you could start a savings acct in his name and each year contribute a little bit towards his college or first car.  My Dad put $100 in a mutual fund for my daughter's birthday each year and with interest it was enough to get her a car when she was 21.  She knew why she never got birthday presents from them and was so happy when she was able to buy that first car.  I know Christmas is a little different but it's a thought.

The more carbs I eat, the hungrier I am.  If I eat SOLID protein (chicken breast, steak, etc) I stay full much longer.  I definately plan my snacks into my daily food plan-I leave nothing to chance cuz otherwise, I just grab something that my HEAD tells me to eat.  Keep some protein bars, jerky, single serving of nuts, etc handy-like in your purse.  I keep a "snack basket" at home with acceptable snacks-already divided into 100-150 calorie packs so I can grab ONE as needed.  Plus try some SF/FF pudding.  It takes 5 minutes to make and is so good.  I pour chocolate and banana in the same cup and it's awesome.

I wouldn't exceed the recommended dosage on the bottle.  With most vitamins/supplements, you pee out any excess if you take to much at once.  You should wait at least 4 hours between doses so maybe with lunch?  I only take one dose a day-2 Citracal Petites each morning and my levels are perfect BUT I also eat a LOT of food compared to most people.

Also read people's profies.  I documented my entire journey from pre-op thru post-plastics on my profile.  Just start reading, it will answer a lot of your questions.  Christmas dinner is no biggie.  By next year you'll be able to enjoy it-just smaller portions.

First off, find one you really like.  I made mine up and put it in a container in the fridge and every hour (I set the kitchen timer) I sipped an oz or two then took a walk.  It was my routine for a couple of weeks.  You won't get it all in at first-just strive to get as much as possible.  When you start eating food-make sure it's high in protein since you won't be able to eat much.
