Robin, you're right, that is wierd.  I have been a RN for 30 years and I have never not been offered a job on the spot.  I can't imagine them not grabbing you up with 13 years experience.  If all else fails come to Dallas, I'm a L&D nurse and I got connections!!!  Probably she already had an interview set-up with someone else and has to follow through with it.  I will keep you in my prayers.  You're right, if it's meant to be it will happen.

The website Sharyn mentioned actually has a form with approx 75 questions to ask your doc.  I printed it and crossed off what I already knew and didn't need to know.  I was left with 8 questions to ask my doc.  I brought them with me and got them all answered.

Topic: RE: Should I refuse the pain pump?
Gina's not the only old mean nurse with smelly feet on this site so I'll add my 2 cents too.  I would make sure I had the PCA pump ordered but only use it if you request it.  A PCA is the one that delivers Morphine or Demerol through your IV.  It does effect you by making you sleepy, nauseated, nutso in the heado, etc.  If your doc is talking about the On-Que pump, that is numbing meds delivered directly to your incisions and it does not effect your brain in any way.  (It's like having your mouth numbed at the dentist).  It has to be placed at the time of surgery and can't be ordered later.  Also with c-sections now we put morphine directly in with the spinal medication so most patients don't need any meds for at least 24 hrs.  I don't know if you had that or not.  Hope this helps.

Good morning train riders...I'm up bright and early this morning as my DH and I are off to Oklahoma to play a few slots with the Indians.  (I'm sure they appreciate how we send their kids through college with our donations).  Yeah, we never really win much but it sure makes for a fun day. Gina, you know I'm gonna try the foot thing.  This 52 year old nurse is having a tough time pounding the pavement at work all day. Sara...we want puppies!!!!  Can't you slip a little castor oil in her food?????? Sharyn 17 years is a very long time by any standards, congrats!!!  My sister and her partner have been together for over 20 years (and we said it would never last...) Susan, any house news??  Any new lookers?? Gotta run, hope everyone has a great day filled with SUNSHINE!!!!

For those of you that attended the NE Dallas support group meeting hosted by Psy-Med this morning here is an update.  We have started an on-line support group and I am extending an open invitation to anyone that wants to join.  The group is for anyone that lives in the Dallas area...pre-op, post-op, those seeking information, etc.  It is primarily comprised of Dr Barker's patients but ANYONE is welcome to join.  I had some trouble sending out invites so I am using this forum to get the word out. It doesn't matter if you had/are having RNY, lapband, DS, etc all are welcome.  The site is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dallaslosers.  We would like to also get some activities going such as a clothing exchange, organized walks and parties!!!! Come join us!!!!!!

Wish you could of been at the support group meeting this morning, we had about 50 people and it was incredible.  I'm going to be setting up a website for us for Dr B's and other NE Dallas folks to talk and share.  I'll let you know when I get it set up.

Good morning train riders...not too many people at the station bright and early this morning.  I can't believe I'm up so early, didn't get home until 1:30 am from my usual Friday poker game.  Walked out of there up about $50.00 so not a bad night.   I'm about to be off to the Dallas Support group meeting at Doctor's hospital.  BTW, found out everyone is welcome.  Wish I could attend the McKinney one but I work on Monday until 7pm. Plans for this afternoon are to start packing a few boxes for my DD's move back to college next month.  Not fun, but necessary. Everyone have a GREAT day and enjoy the SUNSHINE!!!!!!!!

Good morning Train riders...well after my little treadmill fiasco, I am now on blood pressure medication.  I need to get it under control before surgery in 3+ weeks.  I did manage to have a profitable 4th...won $85.00 playing poker (of course my DH lost $60) and had a great time hanging out with friends.  Didn't get to see any fireworks as I had to work yesterday and I get up early.  Then today they cancelled me due to lack of work, go figure!! Alissa...BIG HUGS...I can't imagine how hard it is to leave Chris.  I will be praying that the doctors find the right medication to help him. Susan...prayers to you to sell that house.  Being the cheerleader that you are, maybe you should stay home when someone comes to see it.  I bet you could charm them into buying it. Have a great weekend everyone and KEEP DRY!!!

Just wanted to remind all of Dr. B's patients that the monthly Saturday support group meeting is tomorrow from 10:30-noon at Doctor's hospital Professional Bldg 1 room 102-B in Dallas. Would love to get a reply to see who's coming so I can look forward to meeting you in person. Actually, the meeting is run by Psy-Med so I bet anyone can attend.  It doesn't specifically say Dr Barker's pts.  If you want to check call 214-348-5557 and ask if you can come.   Hope to see ya'll there.

OK, this fat girl knows shoes because my feet killed me until I found Crocs.  I have been an L&D nurse for 30 years and believe me you spend a lot of time on your feet.  My feet are also wide and with the Crocs it's like wearing your house shoes.  But they must be Croc brand.  I have never found a knock off that even comes close.  I see them on E-Bay a lot, either new or used.  Since they are plastic, I wouldn't worry about them being used.  I just throw them in my washing machine to clean them.  Also, if you don't have to have specific colored scrubs, I find a lot at thrift stores for $3-4 each piece. Also, in the future, you can buy a lot of your books at Amazon or Half.com for a lot less than buying them new.  I am sooooo excited for you.  It is so rare when people find their passion and are fortunate enough to be able to accompli****

I made them 2 weeks ago and they were so tender and flavorful.  I came home from work after 12 hrs and my house smelled awesome.  For some crazy reason my dogs were going nuts and wouldn't leave the kitchen!!!!!   Yeah for Mel...keep those recipes coming!!! OT Sharyn, I'm glad to hear you want to be an L&D nurse when you grow up.  It is the best job in the world.  Of course today we had 5 babies and 7 outpatients and I busted my butt all day.  I can't wait to get skinny so it won't be so tough hauling my butt up and down the halls all day.  If you have any questions along the way, feel free to PM me.

Today I am grateful for all the soldiers, past, present and future that defend our country. I am grateful, in particular to my father, a Pearl Harbor Survivor. I am grateful that I took the time this morning to read Ramon's OH speech on his profile, it was very well written and hit home. I am grateful that in 26 days I will be starting my new life on the loser's bench. I am grateful for all my OH friends who support me everyday.

Oh, Shannon, I am so sorry to hear about your insurance trouble.  I would be furious too.  Maybe Dr B can hold your spot until they get it straightened out.  You still have 3 weeks before your date.  It always amazes me how rude people can be and I am so sorry that you had to go through that.  Are you going to Dr B's support group meeting on Saturday?  If so, maybe we can meet.  Keep us posted and good luck!!!!! Good morning train riders...well if you haven't heard, I passed my stress echo yesterday without falling off the treadmill (sorry, Mel, had to say it).  My doc was pretty concerned about my BP...it was 226/98 after only 5 min on the treadmill.  I'm going to watch it closely because if it's too high they might postpone my surgery. Gina, 9 days!!!!  I'm a nurse and can barely do 3 (I work 12 hr shifts in L&D).  I assume from your posts that you are a visiting nurse? Rachel, I'm so glad you got to show off to your doc, it must of felt good!!   Danni, hope you start feeling better, even a simple cold can wear you down.  I put some good movies in the RCC if you're up to it.   Sara, hope those puppies come soon.  It will be so much fun in a couple of weeks when they start crawling around!! Getting ready to go to a Texas Hold 'Em poker party.  I have a regular group that I play with on Friday nights and most holidays.  Gonna cookout, swim and hopefully win a little cold hard cash!! Blessings to all, thank a soldier today...my Dad was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and to him and all others I am grateful.

Well I made it through my stress test!!!!! (and didn't fall off the treadmill).    Mel, I laughed so hard at your story...I could just picture you pedaling away from Austin in the wrong direction!!!! (and you thought I was a nice person).  I even told the staff at the office about you falling off and they thought it was hysterical too. Susan, thanks for the cheerleading, I needed it.  Sorry that there's no house news. I did get my surgery clearance but my blood pressure went sky high during the test (226/96).  My Doc wasn't happy about that but he told me to check it at work/home and let him know if it remains up.  He said he could put me on some meds to get it under control if needed.
