Susan, what do you need a pool for, don't you have a big old "gulf "close-by?  My DH wants to come down to your neck of the woods and do some fishing sometime soon.  We usually stay in Rockport.  With my surgery a few weeks away, don't think we'll make it this summer.

Ok, I'm back from shopping and getting my new "do".  If I must say so myself, she did a pretty good job with the haircut.  My daughter is going to take pics and we'll upload them tomorrow.  Didn't make it to the 6.99 store but will save that for another day.  Thanks for the info.  Just took a swim and my pool feels like bathwater...my 3 pugs and DD joined me.  Prayers to Sara and can only imagine what her cyber room looks like.

Obviously still on the morphine!!!  Hey guys, we really can decorate her room while she's gone...maybe we can make noise makers out of her gallstones and we can put glow in the dark stuff all over her walls and freak her out when she wakes up.  Keep the ideas coming and keep it quiet, we don't want Sara to find out.  OK SARA, I said turn off your computer  !!!!!!

Ok, so I admit it, after only a few months I am hooked on the TMB.  I can't wait to get up each and every day to see what you guys are up to.   Sara, I hope and pray all goes well...it's a tough way to lose a few extra pounds. Plans for today...scrounging around the thrift stores looking for smaller size scrubs and stuff for my daughters first apartment.  Also plan to get a new haircut, trying to get things done before the big day.  Will take a new pic and have it posted soon (unless of course the haircut stinks). Good thoughts and vibes to everyone for a safe, fun and productive day. Steph

I'm so sorry I missed the party...you guys seem like you have so much fun together.  I can't wait until I can join you.  I've been at work all day but luckily not any babies being born today so I have had a lot of time to read posts.

Good morning early risers!!  Sara it's good to hear that you are feeling much better.  Keep track of what you eat and see if you can relate it to the pain...I really hope it's not your gallbladder.   I wish I was able to make it tonight but have to be at work bright and early in the morning. I have an all day garage sale today, my father-in-law passed last year and it's time to clean out his garage. Sounds like fun in the texas heat huh? You all be safe and have a great party.

Good Morning Y'all... I'm new to the train so I'll just say Hi and take a seat.  I will be having surgery (RNY) July 30th with the wonderful Dr Barker.  Am getting very anxious about what I'll be able to eat afterward as I have very discerning taste buds (meaning they prefer chocolate, pasta and Diet Coke).  I'm studing and trying to learn everything I can so I go into this prepared.  I'm so glad I found you...It will be nice to make new friends along the way. Stephanie

Apparently it was placed too high.  I have thrown-up daily for two years and store all of my food in my esophagus.  I had a total of 8 fills and it was eventually filled to over capasity (4.5cc in a 4cc band) and I still never lost any weight.  I know of many others that it worked for and so I'm not knocking the band, just didn't work for me.

I will be boarding the train on July 30th!!!  Woohoo!!  To introduce myself, I had a lapband july of '05 that never worked so now I am scheduled to have it removed and will be having a lap RNY.  I am excited to finally begin this journey.  2 years ago I bought a convertible ready to show off my hot new body but that never happened...well I still own the car so let's get this party started.  I have been following the daily train riders for months but was afraid I'd jinx things by jumping on board too soon....but now that I have a date, I hope you'll save me a seat.  Steph

Are you still taking pain meds? The most common side effect of any morphine/codeine type drug is itching.  For some people it doesn't start right away...just a thought.

Congrats you two!!  Today must be a lucky day.  I just received a letter from my insurance co. today saying I am approved too!  I am going from a lapband to a bypass and Dr Barker is my dr too.  I'm going to call the office tomorrow morning for my surgery date...I can't wait.  Good luck to you both and maybe we will meet in his office sometime.  Steph

Topic: RE: Band not for me
Oh Paula we could be sisters!! I had my band placed in July of '05 and only lost 20 lbs (and that was due to shear determination, a liquid diet and exercising my butt off). I NEVER felt full, have vomited almost everyday for the past 1.5 years and gained back what little I lost. Dr. Barker did not place my band but I am seeing him for a revision to the RNY. I now have a hiatal hernia (small) and esophageal distension due to the food sitting in my throat and not going through the band. I think the reason I gained weight was because I found myself eating nothing but junk as it was the only thing that stayed down and kept me full. Please try to pursue the insurance thing when your husband gets settled. We have been through so much and deserve this. I am in my second month of a 3 month medically supervised diet, then they will resubmit to my insurance...I just pray I get approved this time. Good luck and keep us posted. If you need to talk, PM me. Steph

Hey Jenny, I'm just starting my journey with Dr Barker. I am one month into the 3 month diet required by my insurance co. Maybe we'll run into each other sometime. Good luck, I'll be following your journey...I hope to start mine in June.

Personally, I have used my card several times. The Golden Corral and Cici's have both charged me a child's buffet price. Most of the time I only eat salad at Cici's or have the topping off a slice of pizza. But this way at least I can enjoy eating out and not spend a fortune to do so. Steph

Topic: RE: Report on WLS on WFAA Dallas-Fort Worth
Wow, I can relate...I had a lapband placed 2 years ago and never lost any weight. I developed chronic vomiting and now I have a hiatal hernia and esophageal distension from packing my food in my esophagus. I chose my original doctor because he was a very good general surgeon but had only recently started doing bariatrics. I am now seeing Dr Barker for a possible revision to a bypass. Unfortunately we are not sure if my insurance will cover it. My advise to those looking would be to choose a surgeon based upon reputation and ask to see his/her morbidity and mortality statistics. Topic: RE: Two Week Post Op - Feeling Great, Down 19 lbs
Thanks so much for your post. I had a nightmare with a lapband 2 years ago and just consulted Dr Barker this week about removal of the band and conversion to a RNY. I was very pleased after meeting him and feel like I have made the right choice. You are absolutely right about his staff...what a happy group of people!! They think my insurance might have an exclusion for WLS and they don't know if it will pay for the revision part. I have put my fate in their hands and hope they can get it covered. But in the meantime, I will live vicariously through people like you. Congrats on an excellent start to a whole new you!! Steph

Sounds fantastic to me!! I went to see Dr Barker yesterday for the first time and was very impressed. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts about him and how your surgery went. I am trying for a lapband to RNY revision. (my band never worked). Thanks Steph

If anyone lives in the NE Dallas area, the Rowlett WaLMART has the complete Magic Bullet set on clearance for $45.00. I just bought mine and there are 6 left. They are on the housewares aisle and have been there for at least 5 days so they aren't selling fast.

Can't help with a doctor but you definately need to see one that will take you seriously. The blood loss alone could drop your iron stores so low they may postpone your WLS. You can always ask your family physician for a referral. Good luck. Steph
