Do you know how many carbs you're eating per day?

I have never heard of it but if it works for you, that is great.

Topic: Do some bariatric surgery patients need alpha-lipoic acid supplement?
Started having terrifying, horrible Sciatica pain, and was desperate. Searched online and found that some people take this anti oxidate called alpha-lipoic acid. Suffered on and off for a month and a half. Tried once and quit because I started going to a chiropractor. Pain got even worse, enough so that I started taking the supplement again. After three days, which is when they say it usually kicks in and starts to work, it started to ease up and on day four its almost 99 percent gone. Im over the moon and going to keep taking it. My surgery was back in 2013, and Im just wondering if my body has been lacking this for a long time, and finally I was starting to feel the effects? Thoughts?

My husband has M.S and started having liquid like stool, and was having daily accidents. He perscribed, and has been taking 1 Imodium a day for the past two years. LIFE CHANGER!!!! No more accidents, no side affects. He is just back to normal. Maybe try it for a week or so. Couldnt hurt, and you can buy over the counter or get online. Good Luck.

Topic: Difficulty maintaining weight after surgery ? need advice from the community

Hi everyone,

I had weight loss surgery about 2 years ago, and lost a significant amount of weight. But in the last 6 months, I have had difficulty maintaining the weight - it has been creeping up even though I have maintained a relatively stable diet and exercise routine.

My question is:

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation after weight loss surgery? How did they stabilize their weight?

Are there any diets, exercise routines, or management strategies that have been proven to be effective during the "plateau" phase - when weight loss is harder?

Does anyone know of a doctor, nutritionist, or support program on ObesityHelp that would be a good fit to share their experiences with?

I would love to hear some practical advice from the community - even if it is just a small habit that can help me maintain my results after surgery. Thanks so much!

Topic: RE: Panniculectomy???

As a bariatric and general surgeon, I often see patients who've achieved incredible results with medical weight loss, especially using GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide) and Semaglutide. These treatments help patients lose significant weight safely by controlling hunger, improving insulin response, and boosting metabolism.

However, after major weight loss, many patients are left with excess skin around the lower abdomen -- known as a pannus. This can cause rashes, irritation, and discomfort, making daily life difficult. In such cases, a panniculectomy -- the surgical removal of that excess tissue -- is not just cosmetic but often medically necessary.

Once a patient's weight has stabilized or plateaued on Tirzepatide, we can safely perform a panniculectomy to restore comfort, mobility, and confidence. It's often the final step in a weight-loss journey -- completing the transformation started with modern medical therapy.

Thank you! That's very helpful. I am under 50 pretty much daily and protein is around 120-150. There's the occasional day where I just am full and my protein dips to the 80's. I do a low carb protein shake on those days.

I do appreciate the input. You kind of confirmed that I'm doing what I thought was right ... even though I don't love it. haha

Definitely 50 and under. Unfortunately, it is something you need to do to lose/maintain.

And keep eating protein. I eat it couple of hours.

I eat some simple, but mostly complex. And I'm not counting calories when I'm doing low carb.

I'm allergic to almost all nuts -- so that takes away a big protein component that I cannot do.

I do a lot of chicken, meats, cheeses, eggs.

I just wasn't sure if we should stay below 50 carbs like a Keto (or lower than 20 carbs for super keto -- which is about impossible for me to do) or if you just concentrate on getting in protein and don't worry about carbs?

What type of carbs are you eating? Complex or simple?

I eat a lot of nuts but not breads,

I am not sure about calorie restriction. It is not something we usually do. We eat a ton of protein, a decent amount of fats, fewer carbs, and liquids. I eat constantly but it is nuts, cheese, chicken, tuna fish, meats, cold cuts, etc.
