Is it too early to start laying out goals and plans for 2011?  I think I am going to set this as my main race for the year to train for.  Considering I have yet to actually start swimming at all, I think its fairly aggressive goal.  Syracuse is a couple weeks before, but this one would be much closer to me I think:

What is everyone else's big plans for 2011?

It is never to early to plan for the future, and with that being said Good Luck, you can totally do this!!

My goals are a little less...but I would love to be able to do my first 1/2....My goal is the Shamrock Half Marathon in Virginia Beach...

of course not, i'm always laying out plans that go out 12 or 18 months for really big events.  for instance, i started planning for the Goofy last spring, and am already thinking about what major bike event i will do next summer.  some folks are already planning on disney 2012 here :)
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Do you think the half ironman in Orlando in May would be too aggressive for me to train for, given my lack of any swimming training?

Andrew,  my training partner started his swim training 7 months before our Syracuse 70.3, knowing that he would have to work hard to make it out of the water.  He worked with a swim coach and spent extra time in the pool.  The swim coach had his doubts initially, but Mike put in the yardage to make his dreams come true.

If you're going to do Florida, seek out a swim coach so you learn good technique and make the most of your time in the pool.

sounds like good advice.  There is a tri coach here in the hudson valley I might talk to I suppose.

that's the only HIM i've done so far.  definitly doable if you start training soon.  my advice for that race besides the swim?  get in some heat work, the run was pretty nasty, hottest thing i've done so far.
