New to Working Out

Hello All!

I am 8 years post lap RNY and am just recently (within the last year) feeling comfortable enough with my body to do a REALLY hardcore workout. I am currently doing high impact cardio aerobics for 40-50 minutes in the morning 5 times/week and join my husband doing DDP Yoga during the evening 3 times/week. I am technically not in the honeymoon phase but would still like to lose another 60 lbs. I have some questions for those who are workout junkies :)

1) I have been told to drink a protein shake or take in some protein within the first hour after working out to rebuild muscles. How many grams of protein should I be taking in during this consumption?

2) Do you keep track of the calories burned during your exercise? And if so, do you calculate this into your daily calorie consumption?

Any other advice that may be provided from seasoned athletes is truly appreciated.

I am kind of confused by the honey moon period comment. I thought that applied to the 1st 6 months after surgery, at least that is the case for the sleeve.

Unless you are working out for 3 to 4 hours per day at a very intense level, I would not add back calories.

I am not sure on question #1 but I would guess 20-30 grams would be fine.

Stalls are your body's way of telling you not to get too cocky.

Thanks for catching my error, SATXCSG. You are correct. I am NOT in the honeymoon phase anymore. I am technically in the maintenance phase but still want to lose weight. Thanks for your advice.

Congrats on getting in to working out! That's wonderful! I don't know about adding protein. I am 8 years out also and I just focus on getting 60-80 a day in general, working out or not. I do not add back calories I "earn" from working out. If you want to lose weight, I don't suggesting adding them back in. I bet you find you lose fast, especially with working out as much as you are! I just have my regular protein shake breakfast after finishing my morning exercises. It's got 25-30 grams of protein in it.

I do not keep track of calories burned or take them into account with my daily consumption. This seems like a good way to fall into the reward mentality trap and I'd rather not do that.

Swimming can be another great way to exercise & really use those legs & arms!  I love to swim!

i try to do 15-30 grams of protein after a workout.

I appreciate your fitness routine that you all have started J

There are many fitness mantra but sadly, hard to follow for some as their routine. It is due to hectic work schedule. So, it is recommended to look for personal trainer who can bring routine and eagerness of being fit in your daily life under their strict guidance.

Guys, What do you think of hiring a personal trainer?
