So, I have not been doing intense exercise since my WLS; just walking about 2-3 miles per day, which is kinda good I suppose? Last night I went to the park and walked over 2 miles (4 miles in my whole day). Lately, I've been having a lot of dreams that I'm able to jog and not feel tired, and I'd wake up feeling slightly disappointed to realize that it was just a dream. I haven't been able to run without feeling tired for about 9 years now (I gained a ton of weight at age 17 because of oral steroids; they made me obsessed with food). So, last night, I had this intense urge to jog. I started jogging and I was able to jog for about a minute without feeling tired. I know that doesn't sound like much, but before, I'd jog for about 5 seconds and feel as if I was about to collapse.
My questions are: Is it easier because I've lost over 65 pounds? Is it easier because I've been walking a bit more? Both?
I mean, I can even walk faster than before. I'm able to walk faster than people in the store and at work, which is a miracle because I'm 5'2'' and I have Hobbit legs. Imagine a chubby little bird speed-walking across the parking lot with it's tiny stick legs. That's me.
I'd love if some of you could share your progress stories on energy and exercise. Thanks so much!

I think they still do it in our area. As a matter of fact, I think the local mall even had "mile markers" actually I think it was .25 mile marker signs. Best bet would be to call the Administration Office of the local mall and ask if they have designated times. Not sure if you work outside the home, but even if the mall doesn't open early for a designated program, it's probably not too busy right at opening.

Here's my situation. I live out in the sticks, in farmland. Right now, walking for any length of time outside just gets to be unpleasant, since the wind seems to have been blowing steadily since December. Normally it would not bother me, but with this weight loss, I get colder faster. I don't even have a decent fitting coat, and am not spending money on one for the rest of this season. It isn't a matter of can't as much as it is won't. ;-)
My gym membership is going to expire soon, and I am not going to renew it. And I refuse to get on their little inside track and orbit around with all the other bipedal hamsters.
I am not a mall person by any stretch, and avoid them like the plague when they are infested with shoppers. But I remember back in the day when they opened up early, before business hours, for geezers and such to walk the perimeter. Do they still do that? Spring is coming, and I will be out wandering the back roads soon enough. But in the meantime...
A little bit of a cut back week.
Monday-rest. needed it.
Tuesday-4 mile run that I'll probably make closer to 6
Wednesday-4 mile run
Thursday-6 mile run
Friday-yoga
Saturday-14 mile trail run that will become a 16 miler if plans work out
Sunday-5 mile run

Please check with you doctor on the squats but yes you can lose and tone up with squats. Walking right now is the best thing you can do until you get clearance to start exercising

Since it has not been started yet and I know it is late I thought I start it anyhow.
Monday was bike ride on trainer
Tuesday hill running 6 times up this one beast of a hill
Wed Master swim and some strength training
Thursday 45 minute run
Friday swim
Saturday 90 minute run
Sunday just a nice walk

How about exercise bands, when you are cleared of course? I wasn't cleared for anything but walking for 4 weeks. I'm allowed to use bands now but only a couple times a week and only for 20 minutes. We still aren't consuming a lot of calories so we are somewhat limited.

Post op I went from one exercise to another to find the right fit for ME. My exercise patter won't be yours. You have to find the exercise you will enjoy and stick with. I thought post op I would go back to racquetball, tennis, golf, maybe basketball and swimming. Well I still have a bad back post ops...So all that pounding of the back was out. Also I am cold ALL the time...So swimming was out too. And that was the one thing I thought I would go back to.
So because of my back, (and I live in California), I took up the bicycle, walking, mowing lawns and maintaining fruit trees and grape vines (pruning, spraying, tying, thinning, picking). Who would have thought?? I am 61, over 10 years post op, on blood thinners (two heart attacks), and my skin scratches easily. So it's sort of a no brainer for me. I do movements that are careful and planned. On my bike I ride defensively. I ALWAYS assume that the drivers in the cars (and motorcycles...That one nearly killed me) don't see me and may not yield.
Anyways...Just saying find your fit for being fit and go for it. As you get older, your exercise routine will change as your body changes. Brian
Different subject...But the same idea. Every morning post op for about the first 5 years I would have two spoonfuls of Wendy's Chili...Every morning first thing. I would throw in some mixed vegetables in the container too. Usually eat it cold. But I wanted to make sure there was something good in my system in case I got busy and started to eat junk later that day. Similar to people starting their day with whey protein isolate. Just me...
