I had both my pre-wls babies early due to pre-eclampsia but at 40 yrs old, 3 yrs after RNY had my 3rd baby full term. WLS is NOT a reason to deliver early I would strongly recommend she get another opinion. Full term babies are so much easier to take care of than babies that come early!
Hi all,
I had the BPD/DS 3 years ago and are now pregnant with fraternal twin girls. Had a scan today and baby A weighs 2lb 10oz and baby B 2lb 13oz. They are measuring 2 weeks smaller than they should. I'm on bed rest because of a terrible fall a couple of weeks ago and my gynecologist says they might come much earlier than expected. All babies here below 5lbs automatically goes to NICU - and usually stays for weeks/months. Which we obviously don't want.
What I want to know is if you think they are behind because of the DS? Maybe because I really struggle to get enough protein in. Anyone who had similar problems and advice on how I can make them grow bigger faster?
I've also only picked up 6 lbs in 31 weeks with this twin pregnancy so far. Do you think that is normal after wls?
Thank you in advance!
I've never heard of this before. Maybe she should seek a second opinion, like from a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist. I met with one before I got pregnant and she never said anything about inducing early.
Sounds weird to me! I've never heard of wls being a reason to induce early. On the flip side, there are soooo many studies that show how important those last few weeks in the womb are. I would have serious reservations about taking the baby out at 37 weeks unless there were very real complications that would indicate doing so. If it were me, I'd get a second opinion from another OB.
She also has only gained 6 pounds, they are doing another sonogram at 35 weeks to see how big the baby is and if it big enough to come early. She has had a few complication also but nothing serious.
They are thinking of inducing me at 37 weeks due to my baby's size I find out for sure on tuesday with me its not so much that I have had gastric bypass its more that I just haven't been able to gain and maintain the weight I gain. Have also had other complications with the pregnancy that may or may not be resolved once he is born
I got pregnant 3 months post op and other then having issues putting weight on my little guy is growing nicely
she had her surgery in North Carolina and has now moved back to Maryland so she really hasn't gotten a doctor hear but I told her to call her former doctor in NC for advice. This doesn't sound right to me either.
I have never heard of this. There are tests that show if the baby is failing to thrive or has intrauterine growth restriction, in which case, this makes sense. But WLS alone does not mean this is always the case. I carried my 1st son to almost 38 weeks with no issues and he was 6 lbs 7 oz and this baby is almost at 38 weeks and seems to be growing fine as well. I was 5 yrs post op with my son and almost 10 with this baby. Your daughter is far enough out that she should be able to get adequate nutrition, fluids, vitamins and the baby is safe in the womb. Braxton Hicks contractions are also normal and frequent ones are good as means body is doing what it is supposed to. I know cervidil is used to induce labor and have not heard of ill effects, but the whole deliver early thing seems weird to me. Has she checked with her surgeon or gotten a 2nd opinion?
