Congrats on your pregnancy! I was 5 years post op with my 1st and now almost 10 by the time this little one is born but know many ladies on here have had successful pregnancies with healthy babies within a year or sometimes less of surgery so sure they will help out.
Other than the same issues that non WLS BF moms face, Latching, feeding schedule, etc I had no issues with BF and was able to do so with my son for a year with no supplement required and plan to do the same with this baby. I have since had a breast lift so not sure if this will impact anything, hoping not, so we shall see.
My daughter is 33 weeks pregnant, had her bypass about 4 years ago. The doctor told her they like to see bypass patience deliver a few weeks early. Concerns with the baby getting enough nutrition and the fact that she is having a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions. He said if she hasn't wasn't delivered by 37 weeks they will use cervidil. Has anyone else had their OB say that they prefer if bypass patients deliver early and is it safe for the cervidil?
I had my surgery in August 2012 and now surprisingly 11 weeks pregnant! Excited and scared at the same time. I had reached my goal early and was about to have the skin removal in July but change of plans...lol! I am eating very well and have gained 13 pounds since i found out....doubled up on vitamins and Dr is well pleased besides the fact that he told me to wait at least a year. Surprises dont wait...oops! Has anyone else gone thru pregnancy being this early out? any input or advice will be greatly appreciated. Have a greatly blessed day!!
This is my 3rd baby, 1st post wls, she is a month old and I haven't had any issues breastfeeding. I do have to drink TONS of water but no problems. Do make sure and take advantage of a good lactation consultant--they are a great asset.
WLS doesnt cause issues bf'ing! There are always other reasons as to why one cannot/does not succeed....but not the WLS alone! I plan on trying again with my second baby...but with my first we were only able to make it to the 3 mo mark...I had to have an emergency surgery at that time and with the stress of it all my milk dried up like no tomorrow! I was sad since I had planned on long term bf'ing! I think the main thing to remember is make sure to drink drink drink and eat enough....relax and get help ASAP if you are having issues! There are tons of people out there to help if problems arise! Also, if it is something you truly have your heart set on doing...prepare yourself....if it doesn't work out and you end up formula feeding...it's NOT the end of the world!! Your baby will still be happy/healthy! I was very upset at first....but my 4 1/2 yo has been so healthy and happy! (We also had a rough start in the beginning...he was almost in the hospital for his weight...I was scared and upset but kept at it and we made it happen until I had surgery 3 mo later!). Good luck and make sure you read up and research before baby arrives to prepare some! :)

Absolutely NOT!!!! My Son is 10mo old and still BFing like a champ. My milk production is better than the first 2 pre-wls whom i had to supplement with formula after i went back to work. Its is slowly dwindling now that he is eating solids which is to be expected. Hoping we can get to the year mark before this cow dries up.....lol. You should have no problems due to wls. I will say my first baby was the hardest to get the hang of and seemed like an endless job. IDK if this is your first but just and FYI. Good Luck!!

I'm sorry and I hope you have a good outcome. Hugs.
I agree with your doctor though, in case you do not get the outcome you'd like, do not blame yourself, he is right - it happens frequently and no one knows why.
