Hi Shante,
i have had sleep apnea for over 3 yrs and have used my APAP (cpap) for the last 2.5 yrs.
I can not sleep without it now. I get so much comfort out of having the air pushing my lungs open.
I do not use the moist, just dry ..that way I can sleep on my side and have the hose go up over my head.
I once forgot my machine on a trip and spent $125$ to have it shipped overnight. My partner thanks me.. He can now sleep.
The APAP machine is newer, it adjusts the air pressure according to your breathing. the regular CPAP is just set a one level.
You will be fine.

I did not sleep with my mask on
. I got up about 12:30am to potty and went back to sleep. Got up this morning bout 4:45am and realized I did not have on my mask. The only other time I slept with out it was when I was in the hospital for the surgery. Just wanted to share that. Looking forward to the day when I can let go of those plugs stuffed in my nose. Another reason I am grateful for my surgery

I have been sleeping on my side for a while now but I used to sleep on my back. I also am pretty comfortable sleeping on my stomach.
What I found during my sleep study last week was that with the CPAP on, I was much more comfortable sleeping on my back than I have been in a long time. It turns out one of the reasons I was uncomfortable lying on my back is because it is harder breathing that way.
Depending on the mask you end up choosing, you can still sleep on your side. Stomach is probably not a realistic way to try to keep the mask on.

Thanks. I have actually had my cpap for two weeks.. It's amazing the difference! I can't believe all the energy I have.. and I can stay awake past 8 pm. The mask sucks.. I usually pull it off at some point but the few hours of good sleep I am geting is making all the difference.

I have used a cpap for about 3 years now. I have claustrophobia and I have to tell you that I've been fine with the nasal pillows. i learned to sleep with my mouth closed too.
good luck to you - try the pillows - you just might like them better! :D
