Topic: RE: How do you know if CPAP is working?
I guess we are allin the same boat. I have had my machine, an auto CPAP for about a month now and I was thinking the same thing. I tried the nose pillows, but like the mask better because I can have my mouth open in the mask. I just don't know if it is working I don't feel the same kind of presure coming in that I do with the nose pillows. I am also still waking up several times a night, but I agree the blankets seem to not move as much so maybe the sleep is more restfull
HELP!

I am kind of thinking the same thing! The only thing I do notice is that I sleep more restfully. I am a twirler when I sleep. My sheets have been staying on the bed now! I have had my machine for 3 months and still fall asleep in th afternoon and am yawning by 10 a.m.....

I know exactly what you mean about pulling it off. I do the same thing. I struggle to fall asleep with it on and then once I do I still take it off while Im sleeping and dont realize it till I wake up and its on the floor. Then for some reason I cant bring myself to put it back on. Has your doctor said how this may affect you during surgery? My pulmonologust didnt wanna approve me at first because he is afraid of breathing/oxygen problems after surgery. But I figure they do this surgery on people with apnea everyday, they must be able to prevent this kind of complication if theyre aware of it ahead of time. If you have any suggestions for how to kick the cigarettes send them my way. LOL. I have NO will power and I keep puffing away. Gotta fight one demon at a time I guess.
Topic: RE: Anyone denied with sleep apnea?
I was just denied for my revision while documenting my sleep apnea.
Topic: RE: i hate this machine!!!!
I can sympathize. I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea in November 2003. This was after losing 165 pounds. I have tried the CPAP for a year. I tried about 5 masks. I could not sleep at all with it. Either the air leaked out or I would take off in my sleep. Now I just got the dental device. Has a fancy name. Mandibular something. It goes over your teeth and pushed the jaw out. It is not bad at all . I have all caps and bridges and feel like they are getting loose. Now I have a upper respiratory thing going so can't use anything. I take Ambein also. I am so wiped out. To add to it, I also have Narcolepsy. I take Provigil for that. It also treats sleep apnea. I take Ritalin in the afternoon so I can stay awake for the drive home from work. Good luck with everything.

I do not feel much different and I have been using my machine for about 3 weeks now. My hubby says he does not hear me snoring anymore, but I feel short of breath during the day. I am always doing heavy sighs and yawning every couple of hours. How do I know if its working right?
Topic: RE: sleep test questions:101
I never went to a neurologist. My PCP sent me to a sleep clinic and I stayed the night there and had my testing done. Good luck!
Topic: RE: Low oxygen levels anyone?? Help!!!
Thank you so much Mary for responding...my pulmonolgist had said that same thing but I never realized just how dangerous it was to have such low oxygen levels until I had read other posts on the board!! I've been quit for about a month and continuing to fight it...I really want this surgery and a healthier life...I am on c-pap and hate it as I keep pulling the mask off at night while I sleep...hard for me to get used to and I would much rather
it
Thanks again!!

my oxygen levels drop when I sleep too. My pulmonolgist said it was from my sleep apnea and I have a cpap machine with oxygen attachment to wear at night. I cant tolerate the cpap machine however so I dont use either one. I am a smoker too and I know it does interfere with oxygen in your blood...so if you dont have any issues with apnea I would think quitting smoking would, if nothing else, IMPROVE your oxygen levels. From what my doc says its not an irreversable thing and can be back to normal with (in my case) weight loss. Hope this helps in some way.
Love and Peace,
