Topic: Second Sleep Study Tomorrow
Hello all! I am new to all of this. I had my first sleep study and they called me in less than 2 weeks to schedule another with just a few electric hook ups and the CPap machine. Does this generally mean that I have sleep apnea? The instant she found out that I had to go for another, she told me that I might as well accept that I have it now if they called me in to study me on the machine.

I am mildly claustrophobic. When I was in the hospital for surgery at 16 years old I could NOT breathe under one of those full face masks when I was awake. Are these machines like that? I have to admit that I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing. It's kind of got me freaked out. Any suggestions/knowledge would be appreciated

It does take a while to get used to it. And the thought of cuddling up against someone who is using it seems like an awkward thing.
But use it. It will make a huge difference in your sleep and overall health.

good thing I have good insurance to cover my supplies... but they do have a couple "comfort" items I am going to look into.... thanks for the link to the auction site
Same here, the prices for the comfort and cleaning supplies are much cheaper than the medical supply company I use. Thanks!

ya my pressure is at 9 as well i have the resmed mask and the fisher and parkel sleep style 200,   i dont use the ramp at all i find i cant breath as well so i like the full air right away..   they said i was just hiting moderate sleep apnea as i stopped breathing 23 times/ hour..   normally if i dont wear my mask i still sleep ok just i wake up and sit up in bed instead of lying down.. then i wake up and wonder why im sitting up and that happens like every 30 mins so i end up sleeping bout 15 hours a night if i dont wear my mask..  just to feel like ive slept enough.. but im a huge sleeper i love sleeping so even with the mask i get 8-10 hours of sleep a night if i get a full night with the mask  ive only had it since the end of Feb...
the prob is  i wake up and not realizing that ive taken my mask off. so im doing it in the night sometimes not knowing..  and then other times with this who sweat thing ive woken up to go wash my face and then just pass back out  and not puttin it back on..

maybe ill keep a towel nearby and just wipe my face down and see if that helps..

My mask is very similar to yours. I do keep water in the receptacle, but as I mentioned before, I keep the humidifier OFF. My setting is at 12 and I have it ramp for 30 minutes. I also find that if I use Vaseline on my lips before I put on my mask that it helps. Sometimes I do take off the mask, maybe once during the night and dry my chin and mouth area and am able to get back to sleep that way. The only reason I think I can do that is I realize that I feel even worse if I don't use the CPAP sad to say. I am only of those "lucky' people who in spite of my weight loss, I had my settings go from 9 to 12! What's wrong with this picture..good grief. I hope this helps!

I keep the humidity off on my CPAP machine as I found it too warm for my liking. I just wear the nasal mask. I still have water in the container.

thanks for the reply i never thought of that.. i tried last night to have no humidly at all and my lips and throat were super dry i had to take it off to drink water. and i was still sweating..

your right about the whole moisture thing. my mask keeps everything in and i break out too since my skin cannot breath so I'm the same there and nothing has helped that.,.   with it getting warmer there is a lot more moisture in the mask and that might be causing me to take it off to "breath" and dry my face..

this is the mask i wear

Hi Stephie,

I have been using my CPAP for over 3 years and still need it in spite of my weight loss. Four months ago I switched from nasal pillows to a full mask that goes over the nose and mouth. The only change I've made now that spring is here, is that I no longer use the humidifier option that I use during the winter months. Do you think that using some moleskin in between your face and the mask might help since it is absorbent? I find that I hate the silicone mask as it traps in all the moisture and causes me to sweat and seal my skin so that my skin doesn't breathe. In turn I break out excessively where ever the mask rests. Here is a link to a clothe mask that might help.
