Poland? If I knew that was part of your trip, I had completely forgotten! How wonderful! Poland is not a place that has been on my travel radar, but I certainly wouldn't turn down the chance to visit! How nice to add a visit to Mike's side of the family, too!

201.7 - Right in the range. So all is well. My target is to be under 200 by month's end. Time will tell.

I must have been tired from the weekend. I stayed in bed until 9 this morning (after getting up at 7 to let dogs out to potty)!

Today I am taking it easy. The only things I HAVE to do are visit my dad and work out with my trainer. Everything else is on an "As I Want To Do" basis. My retired dog show friend uses Mondays as his Saturdays. I kind of like that idea, so I am adopting it. I get to actually rest up from dog show weekends, rather than plunge back into the work week. How civilized! This retirement thing is looking better every day!

Liz, hydrangeas burn here if they are given too much sun. I have two that are planted in shade, but they haven't grown a bit since I planted them. I think the tree under which they are planted sucks everything out of the soil, so only super hardy weed like plants are able to grow/thrive underneath. The shade garden I planted beneath it is pretty meager - even after 5 years. I think I may put in some of that "miniature" ivy, just to get some green by the sidewalk.

CC, welcome back to your summer home! I'm sure a break from AZ and the HOA business is overdue! Will be nice to see Claudia and your dad, too! Glad Kirby is happy to be "home", too.

Merry, merry!

Three hours of sleep last night. I was in bed for 8 hours but took 2 hours to fall asleep and I woke up 3 hours before it was time to get up. I got a lot of reading done...

SIL finally had a drain tube placed yesterday - they had to wait until the blood thinner had dropped in her blood. Hopefully that will help her improve. They said she needed to stay at least 3 days beyond the procedure.

The Sagrada Familia was beautiful yesterday. But we made the mistake of walking up to the Olympic Diving pool beforehand. It was all uphill and incredibly hot. I was sweating like crazy and we were on our feet from 11 am until 4 pm. That's a long time before sitting down. Dinner was at an Argentinian steak place last night. Decent food at a decent price. I had gotten a bit tired of Spanish tapas. Time to move onto Polish food LOL.

We leave mid-morning for the airport to fly to Warsaw, Poland. Eight more days of travel. I don't think I want to travel this long in the future unless we stay in one spot.

We will arrive in Poland in late afternoon and DH's DIL is picking us up. She is also apparently cooking dinner tonight. It will be nice not to go out.

Have a merry Monday!

Welcome back to Michigan!

Wow about Umbrella rates! They used to be fairly inexpensive. But it makes sense with everyone ready to sue at the drop of a hat.

I'm jealous that you can cook something at home. I know I complain about not liking to cook much but I'm ready to be home and making something. We had 2.5 weeks in Aruba eating out every night, then I was only home for 5 nights, then 3 weeks here in Europe eating out every night. It's a lot of eating out!

Just educate yourself as much as possible on the Medicare options. Unfortunately a plan that may work well for people for years may not if an illness occurs which requires different coverage. So it is best to choose a plan which will work for the future rather than just what is affordable today.

We have hydrangeas and hot weather during the summer on Cape Cod. We just have to water them more. They love the sandy soil.

You always seem to a lot to do every day. Don't think you will ever be bored in retirement!

I didn't realize that travel insurance changed a lot after 75 (though I guess that makes sense from an actuarial standpoint) nor did I know some Advantage plans have foreign coverage (none I had looked at did). That's great that Minnesota is going to make it easier to switch. As you know deceased DH's Advantage plan ended up not being terribly advantageous when he was in his last couple of years and I couldn't switch him because of the dementia.

BTW, SIL DID buy travel insurance for this trip. Lucky her!

We made it to MI and are settled. Kirby is in doggy heaven and is being such a good boy so far. It was roasting and humid yesterday and cold and rainy today. Maybe a happy medium would be good!

I would happily sign up for Medicare if it was time. My health insurance is ridiculous, not being eligible for Cobra or a former employer plan. My insurance is terrible and incredibly expensive. I shudder to think what it will increase to over the next 12 years!

Speaking of insurance, I got my renewal for my personal umbrella policy. It went up a whopping 118% for next year. That's insane. I raised my policy limit after friends of ours got sued for $3 million when a woman chased her loose dog onto their property at their beach house and got bitten by their golden retriever when the woman put her arm between the two dogs. It's a scenario that could easily happen here in MI and even if Kirby is sweet, someone sticking their arm in the path of his mouth if he was run at by a strange dog could be accidentally bitten. And people suck and are litigious. State Farm is raising all their umbrella policy rates astronomically to "stay viable". Grrr.

I think that's all I know right now. Off to sleep in the cool air with all the windows open. What a treat!

Still no weight since I couldn't get a morning one. We left early so we're around home just before noon!

DH and I didn't get good sleep on the hotel bed so we napped almost as soon as we got home. Dinner with DC at the neighborhood Mexican joint. It was very good! I stepped out and ordered something new for me. There are at least. 2-3 Paula sized meals left but DC was eyeing up the leftovers for tomorrow.

Went grocery shopping and will try 2 new recipes this week, Greek turkey meatballs (was that one from someone on here?) and Mexican shrimp ****tail.
Tomorrow will finish up the shopping with a Costco run.

Like Peps, it will be a few years before I need to select a Medicare plan but you all have given me some things to think about. I've never purchased travel health insurance before either. Another thing to consider!

Peps, you looked wonderful in the pics from the dog show. Your smile lights up the place! Why didn't we get a pic with DS in it?

Yes, we need an update from our more quiet members!

My Texas BIL lives near the Guadalupe River, by New Brunfels. It's a beautiful recreational river that becomes a killer with little warning. The stories are going to become even sadder I fear, as we learn about families losing multiple children, siblings, cousins, grandchildren. It's just heart wrenching to think about those little ones, too young to even try to save themselves. Lord have mercy.
