I love that your Brazilian Mom was so insightful (and what she said about your DH and you)!

I unfortunately did marry my first love who was eldest DD's father. What did I know about relationships and compatibility at 17? We stayed together just short of 5 years because of our daughter and because I loved his parents too. There was no way to make it work in the end. But I never regretted having my daughter and I have been truly blessed to be married for 38 years to deceased DH and to meet and marry current DH. The first marriage taught me a lot about what makes a long-term relationship last.

You are a very special person - don't rule it out. If it happens, it does, if not you have lots of friends who love you

My eldest DSD is similar - turning 52 in a couple of weeks, never married and almost no serious relationships. Super smart, attractive, and interesting. She doesn't need a guy but doesn't completely think it is out of the question - if it just happens.

Liz it seems you and DH are too competent, and "children" who are long past the age of depending on their father continue to do so. One thing we all know is that eventually parents can't take care of everything, and probably one day not anything. They need to pick up the pace, but I'm sure you've thought about it. I hope over time you feel more at home, and they appreciate the changes you bring. Because I know whatever you're up to in the house, you are making it better.

Holy Toledo Peps, it really is almost done. I have 3 1/2 weeks, but it still seems far away. I now have the confirmation letters that both my pension submissions are approved, so let the money start flowing into my accounts, or trickling in as it may be.

The weather is very gloomy, rainy and 43 degrees. It was in the high 80s a week ago.

It's nice to be home, but I sure am tired. Although much more sleep than Peps got!

CC, I bet your friends involved in their new romances actually miss you too, and they will make a new normal that includes time for important friendships. Its a period of adjustment.

Diane, good to hear all is well with your post surgery eyes. And how cool that you have coins languishing about that can be released into the wild. Back during the coin shortage (during Covid I think) I tried to always pay for my McDonalds ice cream cones with change. Just doing my part to make the world a better place. :)

DH is off watching scary movies with his buddy so I am having Wendys chili again for supper. I might even jammy up shortly. Simple pleasures.

Those first real loves stay with us. I would have stupidly done just about anything for this guy, and I did, until one day when I woke up from the spell and realized I would never want to parent with him, that if we stayed together I would forego parenthood because I would not want to subject my children to his charming but lethal dysfunction. And then it finally occurred to me that I shouldn't subject myself to it either. But it was a heady mix for two years of Latin charm, mixed tapes, (there are a lot of sad songs from the early 80s about being kept apart let me tell you), telegrams (no fax yet), ridiculously expensive phone calls and visits from across the world. Meanwhile, DH was also embroiled in a heady but dysfunctional romance that ended just about the time mine did, so that when we crossed paths 6 months later, we were ready for not our first loves, but the loves of our life. Or in Portuguese as I told my host mother (who never liked the Brazilian guy) when I introduced her to DH, " Here he is, meu grande amor" translated something like, my greatest love.

That's lovely of you to say! After a lifetime of no luck on that front, it's probably not in the stars for me, but at least I don't mind my own company!

127 on the dot. A well earned Wedding weekend gain! I didn?t track my food while gone and couldn?t weigh in. Too many nibbles here and there and too much snacking on the salty things.

I figured out why I couldn?t post or see Liz?s posts. Instead of her blocking me, I had blocked her! Glad it is all fixed now.

In response to Ann?s question the other day - like Liz and DD, I would spend my last day someplace warm with water (most likely Hawaii) with family and the dogs and I would eat seafood and cheese cake!

DD?s memories of Brazil made me remember my Summer of 18. If I could relive a snippet of time, that would be it. I was young, in love and didn?t have a care in the world. I spent my days sun tanning with my besties at the beach or in my backyard drinking vodka lemonades and my nights were filled with watching my boyfriend play baseball, great sex and bar hopping! The boyfriend had an apartment with my besties boyfriend and we hung out there a lo****ching MTV, grilling out and sitting on their roof top (which we could get to from the bedroom window) contemplating life! Life was perfect until I had to leave for college at UW-Madison. I only stayed there a semester before moving back home to be with said boyfriend. I think we might have made it 2 years! I still consider him one of my great loves but am glad it isn?t who I married!

Gloomy, rainy, cold day. Set up my tent for the Art Fair in the garage to see if we remembered how to do it. Printed off some more prints of Door County and matted them.

First day of real exercise in a week! I can tell I missed it! It felt hard!

Making turkey Schwarma for dinner. Using an old Hello Fresh recipe!

They can't afford it except as a bequest and we are probably going to spend less and less time there and more here in the future. And this home is owned jointly. So it makes sense to just stay there in between stuff up north.

The shark was saved today! I just know you had a win in you!

Washing coins sounds interesting. Did you check to see if any were old enough to be worth more than face value?
