100 lbs down!!!

Jan 14, 2008

For some reason, this morning I decided to step on the scale (I have just been weighing at the doctor's office mostly)... low and behold, I have lost 100lbs since June!  100lbs?!??!?!? Talk about a WOW moment....  I have only lost 30lbs since my surgery (almost a month ago), so I was focused more on the "I've lost 30lbs" thoughts, but when it hit me that I have lost 100lbs - it sort of took my breath away.... This weight (pre-op and post-op) has fallen off of me.... it tells me I was working really hard to stay FAT!!!!  We still have halloween snacks and Christmas snacks around the house.... I guess I really WAS the one eating them all, not the husband or the four kids... it makes me sad to think of that Kim... but I also embrace the new Kim and am really proud of her!

Slowly but Surely

Jan 13, 2008

The old me is coming back... My personality is definately back to "normal"... I feel like "Me" again.  I am still very weak, but am definately making strides in the right direction.  My husband is back to work, and I have been able to manage the 4 kids and life without any problems... of course I am not back to work yet, that will throw a wrench in things, but for now, all is improving.

I am adding new additions to my diet every couple of days.  So far, I feel so lucky, everything is agreeing with my new pouch.  I did have a little incident with pureed tuna, but it was my fault, I ate it way too fast (because I was eating and writing a shopping list at the same time, I was in a hurry, and must have inhaled too fast!) and had lots of ehest pain and nausea for about an hour... nothing came back up, but likely I would have felt better if it  did!  I have eaten more smashed tuna since with no problem.  I also added chilli to the mix yesterday, it even had ground beef and green peppers and kidney beans (OK, it was made by Wendy!)... and it tasted so good, and I actually felt so good eating something that tasted so yummy... it also made me psychologically advance as well.

My next hurdle, getting up enough energy to walk  for exercise... I'll get there, but I'm sure not there yet.... at least I am able to walk the kids to their classrooms and grocery shop now... I even cleaned the garage yesterday and have been doing little clean up projects around the house (which it needs after having Mom out of commission for a couple of weeks)....   So slowly but surely, things are looking UP!

Eggface's Ricotta Cheese Bake

Jan 06, 2008

YuMMMMMMMMMMMMMY!!!!  Thank you Michelle.. your Ricotta Cheese Bake is KILLER.... everyone should check out her page and try it... I made it yesterday and have already had 3 servings and have at least that many left!  After three weeks on clears, this totally hit the SPOT!!!!

Tonight I cooked burritos for the family and tried a tsp of fat free refried beans, and they went down easily and tasted great, too... I am really dying for some calories here, and I am so excited that I have found a couple of things that I can eat that will hopefully bring me ENERGY!!!!

Who would have thunk it???

Jan 04, 2008

Who would have thunk that applesauce, vanilla yogurt, and tomato soup tasted so good!!!

Today I got the clearance to advance my diet...all I can say is that everything SLID on down without any problem, and I already feel so much better...  If you would have told me a couple of ounces of unsweetened applesauce would change my life, I never would have believed you!!!  But it did!!!!

I saw the surgeon yesterday and got a glowing report... 22lbs down since surgery... all is well... advance my diet and add my calicium supplements... things are looking up.  I got a return date to work as well, Feb 1... I am thankful, I was afraid I'd have to go back sooner and I have NO energy... I feel like now I will have the opportunity to really get stronger and pull myself together before I hit those long  and hard 12 hour night shifts in labor and delivery!

We have been devoured by a storm here in Sacramento... I know other places have it much worse.  We had no power for over 12 hours and a huge 50 year old tree in the backyard split and came down with a crash.. .thankfully, it JUST missed our house... I am so thankful... 2008 should be a  GREAT year!!!!

Wild Ride!!!!

Jan 02, 2008

WOW... the past couple of weeks have been a wild ride... my surgery Dec 17 followed by my 19 year old daughters SEVERE illness, appendectomy Dec 30, and then readmission to the hopsital after her surgery with complications.... I am so thankful to say that we are both definately on the road to recovery!   When it rains, it pours....  and it has been raining at our house.... Thank GOD my husband has been on vacation taking care of our family of 6, he is a Saint, and amazing, and I've never loved him more.... NEVER.

I am still on clear liquids (with protein shakes)... I am looking forward to purees, mush, baby food, you name it... I CRAVE calories and energy.  Being in and out of the hospital with my daughter caused me to go for 5 days without any protein, so my weakness really has not improved at all.... my spirits have though and I am in no pain.  I am now getting over our family health crisis, an awful cold, a heavy early period from hell, and a lack of protein!  Things are looking up!!! Watch out World!!!

So many of you have reached out to me and offered so much support and encouragement.... I will NEVER be able thank you enough but I can't wait to pay it forward.... thanks so  much!!! It means the world to me..... You are amazing!!!!

The scale.... I don't even get on the scale?!?!??!  I have a post op appointment with my surgeon tomorrow, I'll post the news then!!!!

I'm on the other side....

Now when do I start feeling human again???

WOW

Dec 15, 2007

24 more hours of clear liquids, and then I am NPO for surgery!!!!!!!!!  I can barely believe this is happening to me... Life is GREAT!!!

My Pre-Op Appointment

Dec 13, 2007

Well, today I had my final appointment... Down 15 lbs since my visit last month... Down a grand total of 57 lbs since I first met Dr. P on Sept 6th... I am already loving life and can't wait until Monday when I'll be on the "other side".... YaaaaaaaaaaY!!!

Almost There.....

Dec 05, 2007

I am almost there... I completed my pre-op class with my surgeon's RN and Dietician yesterday.  There were 4 of us undergoing surgery within the next couple of weeks.... We got tons of protien samples (yaaaaaaaaaay) and went over the routine information about surgery and recovery.  The only BAD news was that I can't take  a shower until my drain is removed.... I'll have to wash my hair in the sink for 10 days?!?!?! My hair is almost to my waist!  I guess I should just be glad I still have hair?!?!?!?  One confusing bit of info- my surgeon does NOT want us taking iron unless we need it, nor does he want us taking b-12 unless our labs indicate we need it.  I am so afraid of "getting behind" and trying to "catch up" I am a little concerned.... He does recommend a  B-Complex vitamin instead, so I ordered some sublingual drops... I think I have all my post op supplies together.... I work 5 more 12 hour night shifts before my surgery and have something to do every single night it seems... I am trying to beat this cold... the Zicam nasal swabs and tablets along with the Airborne are really helping... I am sooooooooooo thankful!!  I should be 100% over it by my pre op appointment next week.... Time really is flying... I  should start getting ready for Christmas!  I'm getting the best present ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, I'm down 55lbs!?!??!?!  YeaH Atkins!!!!

2 weeks to go...SICK!??!?!

Dec 02, 2007

I'm finishing week 11 of my Atkins Diet today... I am so excited to be down 52lbs this morning (and that is AFTER eating a chicken breast and cheese stick for breakfast!).....   At this rate, I think I may be down 55-60lbs pre-op when my surgery date is here in just 2 weeks!!! YaaaaaaaY Me!!!!!!

On the flip side, I have come down with a rotten cold and am worried sick that it might interfere with surgery.  I am living on Zicam, Airborn, and of course my vitamins and am TRYING to rest... working full time night shift with 4 kids and no babysitter gets in the way of resting, but I am trying!!!!  Wish me luck!  If anyone has any ideas to knock out a cold, please share them!!!!!!

In just 15 days I'll be on the losers bench.... I had better get some Christmas shopping done!  I am sooooooooooooo thrilled!!!!!
