Leo Murphy Bariatric Surgeon
I absolutely love Dr. Murphy! He took the time to explain to me why I needed to get in the gym prior to surgery, why I needed to be on the protein shakes, and how they were going to manage my care as a DVT patient. I felt like he really explained everything to me and wasn't just pushing me through. My aftercare so far has been fabulous, considering that I'm so far away. PB has seminars up in my area every few weeks, so there's always one I can go to. I really feel that PB has this whole surgical experience down pat, from the surgeons themselves to the staff, to the hospital. A+ all the way around!
When I first met Dr. Leo Murphy I was confident in his abilities and his concerns regarding anyone having this surgery. He took the time to lay out exactly what he was going to do in the operation and explained all of the positive points as well as the negative points. He made sure that I was going to follow his instructions prior to and after surgery.
Following my surgery, Dr. Murphy was making sure that everything was good and always asked me if I had any questions. He also made sure that I understood the importance of exercise following surgery and sticking with the meal outlines.
I am so glad that I was given Dr. Leo Murphy to be my surgeon. He is very direct and to the point with no sugar coating to make this surgery something that it isn't.
I first saw Dr. Leo Murphy at the seminar I attended. I was thrilled when I found out it was him who would be doing my surgery. I thought all the Dr.s at Pacific Bariatric were wonderful and had a hard time choosing just one so when I received a call about who my first choice was with I choose the next available. Dr. Murphy is very personable, kind and caring and strict. So far, I have had a positive experience w/ his staff. I found Dr. Murphy to have both surgical competence and a great bedside manner.
My first impression of Dr. Murphy was he was younger than I thought he'd be! He was very nice and spent a long time with my hubby and me (Dr. was impressed that dh came with me). He made sure that we understood everything he discussed with us. I liked him even more following my surgery-his bedside manner is wonderful! The office people at Pac. Bariatric are busy but helpful and understanding of obese people. I would rate Dr.urphy and his staff a perfect 10!
My consultation with Dr. Leo Murphy went very well. He explained in great detail the surgery, the possible complications and what he expects out of me. He actually draws a picture so you understand exactly what he is talking about. Dr. Murphy stressed the importance of my aftercare routine including exercise, taking my daily vitamines and eating correctly. Dr. Murphy requires his clients to join a gym and meet with a personal trainer and lose weight BEFORE he will schedule your surgery date. I wish I knew that before I met with Dr. Murphy so I could have been able to tell him I've already done that by the time I had my consultaion with him.
I do have to say the office was way behind schedule and I had to wait for over 2 hours to see Dr. Murphy. The office staff was nice, but the office waiting room was packed with pre-op and post-op client and their family/friends. I ended up being the last person that Dr. Murphy saw before his lunch break. He spent a lot of time with my mom and I. He took the time to answer all our questions and told me to give him a call if I, my family or my personal trainer had any more questions. I have trust in Dr. Murphy and I feel fortunate to have him performing my surgery.
At first I didn't want a male Dr. I really wanted to have his daughter Mary Murphy do the surgery. His first impression was okay. He seemed to be rushed. I did change my impression over time. I started to enjoy his visits more, and more, He is very nice, and easy to talk to. I found his staff to de wonderful. I even knew some of them. I still feel that he is very busy, and rushed. He can't spend enough time with all the patients. I think future patients should know that he is very serious about his work, and your programs before, and after surgery.
He emphasizes a strict aftercare program. Follow it and you will loose all your weight, and have less of the extra skin.
He will talk to you a number of times about aftercare, and the risks of surgery.
I would rate Leo Murphy a 9 out of 10.
Surgical competence, and bedside manner are very important, you want him to be smart, and competent.
I met Dr. Murphy the first time at a seminar. I knew right away that I wanted him to do my operation. I had my appt. on the 4 of March. There is only one word for him.. He is Awsome. He answered all my questions was not in any rush. He took his time to get to know my husband and I. I cant wait to meet see him again..
I have only met D. Leo Murphy one time, so far, but was very impressed with him. I feel very comfortable (as I can with surgery pending) with having him for my surgeon.
I had heard he delayed many patients if they hadn't started exercising before they say him I had been exercising for several months and he was quite pleased with what I was doing and then he directed me to make a slight change in my workout routine, which I was able to do.
He definately addressed the risks of the surgery. He said the best thing one could do to prepare for surgery and on-going life commitment was exercise.
When I first went with Dr. Leo Murphy I was kind of nervous. I heard he was VERYstrict and did a close watch on your weight loss prior to the surgery (which is definetly for your own good). When I met him he was very personable. Although he did have certain thing he wanted started prior to surgery, such as joining a gym and seeing a personal trainer, taking your protein and lossing weight before surgery, he was VERY, VERY incouraging. Before surgery I recieved a packet about 3-5 pages with do's and don'ts. It also contained examples of foods to eat after surgery, what vitamins I have to take etc. After surgery he visited me serveral times during my stay (excellent bedside manor, by the way). On my last visit with him he was very friendly and encouraging. He made me feel great. He always look me in my eyes. He's not scare to touch you. He makes you feel like a real person and there is hope for a healthy life. He made sure I understood what he was explaining to me and lets you know this is a life change. You don't have this "miraclesurgery" and that is the end of it. In my opinion he is THE BEST SURGION. If you are going through with this surgery consider Dr. Leo Murphy at Pacific Bariatric Surgical Medical Group at http://pbsmg.com/
Now the downfall. I wasn't explained all the complications or made to feel light of them. From the time I requested the surgery and the time I accually had it was only about three and a half months. After surgery and I left the hospital I felt lost and alone. I didn't know what to do. All that research and I felt unsure. Now it's been four months and my hair is falling out by the handfuls and is very noticable now and I am throwing up almost everyday. On the upside I have lost 70 lbs. since the surgery but I have been on a platue for almost a month now and haven't lost anything. After I read about all the risks and about takedowns I am honestly scared about my future health and for the first time am wondering what I did to my self. If you look, it's harder to find the bad stuff with having the surgey than the good. Look up wls risks first. Not that is will matter. I know nothing could change my mind prior to the surgery. Good Luck! I hope I've helped.
