My first impression of DR Quinlin was that he is a doctor that I would feel very confident in trusting to enter this journy with.He spent a lot of time explainning things and answering questions at the seminar, where I met him for the first time in person.
His office is very accomodating for obes people from the chairs to the scale. The office staff are very helpful curtious, and friendly.
The risks of this surgery were explained well not only by DR Quinlin but from all of the informative literature and from the support group leaders themselfs.
After care is one of Dr,s biggest differences from other wls patients I haved talked to not only from the monthly doctors visits but the support group.

Dr. Robert Quinlin is a quiet man - accomplished, friendly, and caring. He doesn't let it show all at once. You sense the competency the moment he walks in the room and begins to speak. As you speak with him, you sense his earnest desire to help you by giving you the "tool" of WLS. He made an impression on me at the initial "info session" when he commented that WLS "just gets you to the point where you have to do what everyone else, including me, has to do, that is, eat healthfully and exercise to maintain a healthy weight."

Dr. Quinlin is a "no nonsense" professional who still takes time to answer questions (as many as you like). He did not quibble about the risks of WLS - including death.

At my last pre-surgery appointment he commented that he thought I was "ready" based on my test results and answers to his final questions about my desire to proceed with the surgery (no pressure from him or his staff) and that he would "do his best not to let me down." I thought that was such a wonderful way of letting me know/making me feel that he and I are in this together.

Every time I have seen Dr. Quinlin, he always ends the session by saying "Any questions for me?" If I don't have any, he always follows that with "I know you may not be able to think of them now, but you may have questions in the future. Do not hesitate to contact me; I'll be happy to return your call and answer any questions you may have." He - not a staff member - will return my call! That is great, I think.

The office staff is experienced in the WLS "game," i.e., getting testing done, getting letters of support from the PCP, etc. All were friendly and helpful. Some times assumptions were made about what I, the patient, understood or knew some times the patient had to know the right questions to ask, but it all worked out in the end without any major glitches.

Dr. Quinlin's practice, Pittsburgh Bariatrics, has a structured after-care program that provides 2-years of follow-up, support group meetings, and assistance with nutrition questions. It offers a one-time meeting with an exercise physiologist, which I did not find particularly helpful. The physiologist chatted about fitness theory while I slogged on a treadmill to warm up. We did a few stretches and I was done in 45 mins. There was no literature to take away to help remember the points made in the session. That was rather disappointing ; I thought it was a waste of my time.

Dr. Quinlin's surgical competence is excellent (he has performed over 2000 WLS procedures with better than national average results in mortality and morbidity). His bedside manner is brisk but friendly. I rate him A#1 overall.

Terrific physician who was more interested in your feelings thatn in the procedure you were embarking on.I had more and more faith in his expertise and that of his staff.
The staff from reception to procedure were all helpful and supportive. He is concerned about you as a person not a procedure and his care and understanding guidance is an important part of the healing process.
Dr. Quinlan directed me through all the steps and phases of my recovery. By paying special attention to his direction I did not encounter any problems. He is very instructive as to what steps to follow in beginning your new journey and he is very directive as to how your life will change. He explained the risk factors regarding the surgery but I was at far more risk by being obese. There was no pressure by Dr. Quinlan or his staff to have the surgery and it took at least 6 months before the actual procedure took place after my initial contact with him and his office. He took great pains to explain all procedures in detail and to let me know what I could expect before, during and after surgery. His surgical expertise is excellent and I would have the procedure done all over again with him as my surgeon. When the healing process is taking place I think it isimportant to have a competent but compassionate individual taking care of you and your progress. Dr. Robert Quinlan and his staff were just that.

My first impression of Dr Quinlin was that he was nice, but very busy. I was afraid that he would not take much indiviodual time with me. However, Dr Quinlin took the time to fully explain the surgery, as well as possible risks and complications. He offered to talk to me or anyone else in my family or support circle who had questions or concerns. He stated that I could call him at any time if I had difficulties post surgery. I am so very glad I chose him as my surgeon.
Dr Quinlin's staff is very friendly and helpful, they also take the time to answer all my questions and were understanding about my concerns.
Dr Quinlin strongly stresses aftercare. He insists that you follow up with all post surgery appointments. He has a structured aftercare program that he expects to be adhered to.
Dr Quinlin has a great bedside manner and I have heard nothing but great things regarding his surgery skills. I hope to be another of his success stories.

The first time I saw Dr. Q. was at the informational meeting. At this meeting he spoke of the risks and benefits of the surgery. He also spoke of the support group that is available. I didn't want to write anything about him until I had my one-on-one visit. Well, I am surprised about the outcome of that visit. After reading this, if you have any ideas please email me. He came into the exam room not one minute after the nurse left. He asked a few medical questions. He said the nurse will schedule me for tests and gave a very brief explanation of the tests. He got up to leave the room. Dr. Q. never asked if I had questions, he never spoke of the risks, he never spoke of the after care. Not sure what to make of all that. When I told him I had questions, he answered all my questions (3 pages worth). I was expecting more of what other people said about him. I will give further feedback once I have my next visit.

very professional, sincerely interested in helping his patients thru surgery.
Impression remains the same
Office staff professional and courteous
Since I've only seen him twice, I don't have much more insight into him yet.
They have an after care program.
Definitely addressed risks of surgery but in a non-scary way.
He is a quiet, reserved man. His bedside manner is very reserved but he is willing to answer questions if you have them.

My first impression of Dr Q. was that he is a highly skilled surgeon who knows exactly what he is doing. I first met him at the semminar that his practice requires. He didnt seem to be much for jovial banter. He is very much to the point and buissness like. In his office environment he does not seem to smile alot, but he does give the impression of being very caring. My first impression changed the morning of the surgery. He was so friendly and smiley, very caring and understood I was very scared and really did well calming me. I think at the hospital he was in his element, and doesnt everybody excell in their element?? His office staff is superb. I worried more than they did about approval, Maria was very on the ball with all of that stuff. Dr. Q. is a stickler for aftercare and education prior to the surgery. And he was extremly open and honest about all of the risks. I will spend the rest of my life recommending him to future people in need to gastic bypass surgery. I give Dr. Q an A+ and would recommend him to anyone who asked.

He was very informative and talked in laymans terms that I could understand. When he finally deceided that I was a good canditate on my second visit he still impressed me as a man that cares about his patients and makes sure they are in good hands. They all area very nice and well educated in this field. I haven't found anything yet. Since I haven't had my surgery yet I really can't say anything bad about his technics but as for the man himself, he was recommended to me by a fellow collegue who had nothing but praise for him and his work. So far he has been very informative and has taken care to see I have everything I need to proceed because I do have numerous health issues and risks. A lot and yes he does sturcture the aftercare program. Right to the point risky as with any surgery and life changing after it. So far I am very pleased with Dr. Quinlin. Don't know I haven't had the surgery yet.
