How long after WLS were you able to give up your dreaded machines? I've been using mine for a long time now and it keeps me from falling to sleep most nights due to the noise! Can't take it much longer. I have just started my journey towards the whole process and am looking forward to looking and feeling better.

Not everyone is able to give it up.

My husband had the DS back in Dec 2010...he's been at goal weight for over a year. Unfortunately he still has the cpap...his settings have dropped but he still has it.

Remember, there ARE skinny people who have sleep apnea too...it's not just the obese.

Thanks for the heads up. It never occurred to me that I may still have to wear the darn thing after WLS. Bummer!

Hopefully you will be able to give it up...just don't make it a make or break part of this. There are worse things than having to use a cpap.

If any of your family members use a cpap, look at them...we know that my father in law had sleep issues even tho he never got a cpap and HE was rail thin all his life. So it's genetic as well.

How did you know you didn't need it?  Was this ok with Dr.?

Did you have another sleep study? I would find it hard to believe a dr. would OK stopping the cpap without a sleep study.

well, I didnt use it the whole time in the hospital because i wasnt snoring or any of that and i used to snore really bad. so i felt no need to continue it. called my dr and he said he has no problem with me discontinuing it. so i did. i havnt snored or anything since surgery. i am assuming i am sleeping ok.

After 100 lb. loss I still use mine.  I can't sleep without it.

I have been on BIPAP since 1995, and honestly, I don't know if I will be able to sleep without it.

My sleep apnea was very severe, so I have been compliant about using the machine. When I have had one fail, I could not get a replacement for 3 days, and I swear I didn't sleep a wink till I had the new machine.

I have found that I am able to sleep in a recliner without using it, but when I am laying down, I still snore.
