I had that procedure done August, 2011. It was considered a medical necessity because it was leading to hernias for me. I didn't have any problems with it. I was in one day and out the next. I needed to be careful for 6 weeks afterwards.
I had a lower body lift, which is a tummy tuck plus they do your back side as well (so even more extensive than the tummy tuck). Although I personally haven't had a panniculectomy, I think they just take the excess skin off, so it may not be that painful. Tummy tucks and lower body lifts can be pretty painful, but I think most of the pain comes from the muscle tightening and the liposuction, which I don't think they do with panniculectomies.
some (not all) insurance companies/policies will cover panniculectomies if you have problems like the one you described that won't go away with conventional treatments. You need to go to a PCP about it and make sure you have him/her document it. If your insurance company is one that covers such things, they'll want a paper trail on it proving that it wasn't responding to conventional treatments.
Hello. I had a gastric bypass 5 years ago. I have excess skin and some fat hanging down from my abdomen. I have a sore that I am treating now in the fold.
Im thinking of having a panniculectomy. Have any of you had this procedure? If so was it an extremely painful recovery? How long is the recovery time? What did you need to do for insurance to cover it?
I have heard that a tummy tuck - not the same as a panniculectomy - has a very painful recovery. Just wondering about pain level too.
Thanks!

He sounds like a man with a fat fetish, more in love with your fat than the person underneath. Your life is more important than anything or anyone else.

Motivation can come from looking at your kids...wanting to watch those boys grow up healthy. With you. You need to do this for you. Mirror self talks. Every morning, look jn that mirror and says this is my life. I am strong. I am succeeding. I will win".
Write a journal with food rgc on it, but also 10 things you are grateful. 5 of those ...grateful for what your body can do.
Move around every day. Use a watch. See how much further you can go jn that time tomorrow. Get your kids to write 10 post it notes that say nice things about you. Then, allow them to hide them jn the house for you. X0
Hope this is a good start! We need to start a buddy club.
this is an excellent way of seeing it, thank you, im extremely nervous about my surgery next month, but your comment is helping me.
The main forum is not very busy - active.
Another forum - for RNY people(gastric bypass) is the most active, with daily menu posts, lots of support. Regardless of type of surgery you are think of having, you may try to see the post there.

Most insurances will pay for skin removal if its related to a weight loss surgery. Go to a plstic surgeon near you, tell him your journey, he willtake pictures and turn it into the insurance company. That is how I had mine done.

I totally agree. Weight loss surgery offers many benefits to insurance companies, but they do not look at the long-term benefits but only look at the short-term damage.
Is it suitable for women who weigh less than 200 lbs? I'm less than 200 lbs but wanted to use it because it seemed more handy than the patch.
