and I am psyched! woo hoo!!!

really very happy about it!!! The last time I attempted a half-marathon it was only to support a friend. I was planning on doing 3 miles way behind her.

I finished 9 miles- and lost 4 toenails... weeks & weeks of sore feet.
(basically- no training - wrong socks, shoes, clothes, etc...)
STILL it was a thrill to be there and do the 9 miles!

even with losing those toenails- i can honestly say that I don't regret doing it. It was a beautiful day. and it was FUN!

I was also near my TOP WEIGHT!  perhaps 270- 285.

Now I'm near my goal weight having lost over 130lbs.  and looking forward to completing the Half Marathon and NOT being the last person to cross!

again I say... WOO HOO!!!

oh... and I'm doing a 5K this weekend.. hoping the weather is nice...

Thanks! I'm really really looking forward to it.
Three of my friends are going to do it also.
Thankfully- it isn't until October so I have time to use it to my advantage and TRAIN!!!!

FIRST thing I did was go to a running shoe and get fitted with the RIGHT SHOES...

I must have the head for it - because a normal person wouldn't go and do this again after losing that many toenails and still think it was FUN!

Dancbjammin's story inspired me!

do you have a training plan you will use?  I used Hal Hidgon's on the web, although I have a new plan for my full in October Dan made up for me.  Highly recommend you have structured plan.

How exciting!! I cannot wait to be able to do a 1/2 Marathon...Hubby and I plan on training for one, or maybe even a full (haha!) once he gets home from Afghanistan. I need all the time I can get to gain some endurance before then!

This should be fun for the 4 of us.  The 2 of us had a great time at the Adirondack Distance Festival in 2005 at Schroon Lake.
That's when I only did 9 miles - but still exceeded my goal.
We are training together but...separately... on our cell phones - in different states!

My friend that did the Half with me before really got me into this.
We used to get up at 5am and go walking IN THE DEAD OF WINTER.
2 or 3 miles 5 mornings a week! The coldest weather I've walked in was about 5 degrees (no wind) 34 degrees with strong wind..

I ENJOYED walking in that also! boy I'm really not normal...
However, I did reward myself most mornings.. my walk would eventually take me to the Dunkin Donuts... just before I'd head home.

HA.... the girls would try every am to get me to have some besides my medium black coffee! NO SALE!  Did they REALLY think I'd be walking at 5am in the bitter cold so I could eat a donut??? NO no no no no....

Why did you lose your toenails?

14 pounds lost before surgery. My first ticker is when I hit onderland: this was my goal when I started on this journey.  I want to focus on that right now...once I get there I can reevaluate.

My second ticker is my dream goal. Even if I only visit there for a short time, it would be nice to see that number just once.  I am pretty sure I'll need plastics to hit this goal.

When your shoes do not fit properly they can bang against the front of your shoe.  They start be getting black and if it's bad enough they come off.  When you multiply some mild irritation by many thousand steps, they can eventually fall off.  4 is the most I have heard of.  Usually it's the big toe.
