My 2 best investments:  One  was an eliptical machine.  It was low impact for my knees, and allowed me to get my heart rate up and get a great workout at home.  The other was my personal trainer.  He has been with me before, during and after surgery.  He is an experienced trainer and an wonderful guy.

Which ellipitical did you buy?  Ellipticals are my favorite machine.  Easy on the knees.  I wanted one when I was heavy but could not afford the gym quality brands that it would have taken to support 350+ lbs.

My running shoes, for sure.  I got fitted at a running store and it was a great experience.

My gym membership for fitness classes.  I found out that I love classes :D

And, most recently, my Garmin Vivoactive.  It's awesome :D

Mio Alpha Heart Rate Monitor (no chest strap needed)

Learning about how your "target" heart rate impacts your workout results is really eye opening. I couldn't believe how quickly I noticed a difference in my body.

Honestly, I really enjoy investing in my workout gear. I'm worth it and so are you!

My best investments by sport:

Running - shoes that fit my feet/needs, race entries for some awesome events & distances, and local club membership (because I couldn't see life without my running friends!!!)

Swimming - county all-pool pass for the year (unlimited access!!) and pull buoy

Biking - gonna start as soon as I've rehabed my friend's IM bike....

All three: Garmin 910xt.... love this watch!!!

I have been looking at the Garmin 910xt! Do you wear it during triathlons? How hard is it to switch to the next event?

Not biking (yet) but I've done swims right after a run and it's really easy to switch between multisports: just pushing a couple buttons. Only complaint I've had with the 910xt is that I've never quite figured out how to edit in the "modern" Garmin Connect, which is the only way multisport data can be shown... Swim distance is usually a bit off for me as I push off from the wall and that can cause the distance to be anywhere from 25mts to 100mts! Wish I could swim that far in a fraction of a second, but nope....
