Hi Everyone I am not sure if anyone is still interested in this thread or not. I a posting it but I have no idea what my work out will be this week. I just know a lot of walking and wed a swim I hope.
I did my first half ironman and it was tough on sunday. Hottest day ever. I don't think it got as hot as it was all summer. I had to walk the run part which upset me because I am a runner but could not get my legs. I came home with heat stroke. still can not eat but I finished it and yes i would do it again. Hope everyone has a happy week of training

Oh great!!! You are too good in it. It is a exercise which is good for health. keep up..

Consider a subscription to something like Daily Burn - fairly reasonable around $10 a month. You can tune in via the internet any time you want. There are also some amazing exercise classes and channels on YouTube. I don't know where you are starting, weight-wise, but you should be cleared by your team (absent any other medical issues) for full exercise by about 3 weeks out. I was doing an hour on a recumbent bike (slowly, but doing) five days after surgery and was cleared to swim after 2 weeks. (Just waiting for incisions to heal.) Most aerobics are OK at the start - its lifting things you need to be careful of, including your kids.
Do any of the gyms near you offer childcare programs? Our YMCA has a great childwatch room - you can use for up to 3 hours a day when you are a member and on the premises - which is plenty of time to do a class and take a shower uninterrupted! (Again, not sure how old your littles are, but I remember craving a shower in peace.)

I was in the gym until the day before surgery. My surgery was on Tuesday, I didn't work out Monday because I was at the office and had stuff I needed to deal with at home Monday evening, so I didn't have time. I was back in the gym doing cardio on a recumbent bike on Saturday.
Best of luck.

Before a run is usually nothing unless it's going to be over 3 hours. During the run is usually nothing unless it's going to be a hard 2 hours or 3+ easy hours. For during the run, I've come to like Tailwind, but my best advice is to try literally everything you can. Only you will be able to tell what will work. It took a lot of experimenting with all kinds of real food and "running" food. I still use gels sometimes. Honey Stinger Waffles work good too. Full sugar soda is pretty good during a real long one. I've had luck with fruit like dates and raisins. Even had a bacon grilled cheese during my last Ultra. Like I said, lots of experimenting. Good luck! Happy to answer any questions you might have.
