While I'm sure I could convince my border collie mix to join me, not the dog kind. I do agility drills and work to be lighter on my feet when I'm fencing. So working with an agility ladder you put on the floor and running in and out of the ladder. Doing kick toe touches on a bosu ball. Doing rapid step overs on an aerobics step. Doing other plyometric stuff - which aids in explosiveness of movement. My knees aren't good enough to do box jumps but I do jumps on an aerobics step, skips, lunges, and footwork drills. It is high intensity aerobic work to support my fencing training.

Hey Knitter! What is agility training? I've only ever seen it in the context of dog training - which I'd imagine is still quite a workout for the human involved.

Morning all! I'll go ahead and get this started. I've got two weeks left to exercise, so I'll try to make them count. It's challenging, though, since I'm having a hard time finding that fine line between doing enough and doing too much! When I do too much, I then have to take naps :P
Monday: walk, yoga
Tuesday: walk, yoga
Wednesday: pilates class, yoga class
Thursday: walk, yoga
Friday: pilates/yoga class, tai chi class
Saturday: walk, yoga
Sunday: walk, yoga
I tried running for the first time since recent surgery on Saturday and it was super weird. There wasn't muscle pain so much as nerve pain? I can't really describe it. I'll add some running intervals into the walks listed about, but they'll be very short.
What's your exercise plan for the week?

I tried High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and it worked very well at improving my ability to run longer. I started with 5 min warm up (3.5mph) then 30second "high" interval at 5.5 mph followed by 30seconds slow interval at 2.5 - 3mph to recover..then do that 4 times then do 3 minutes recovery at 3.5...then do that cycle over again 4 times for a total of 28 minutes.
I think you're walking at 4.2 is a bit too fast and long for a "recovery" phase so it can be hard to pick up speed and run after that. And 5.6 is pretty fast for the running phase (10.42 minute mile!) at this point so you may be tiring yourself out too fast.
After 4 months of 5 days a week on the treadmill I'm at 4 minutes running at 5.0mph and 1 min walk at 3.5 and can do this 8 times....one day soon I hope to be able to do an "all running" 5k in 40 minutes.
see you the training goes in jan. and if you are not ready than drop it down. You will only be upset with yourself if you do it and not ready and don't have a good run
Listening to your body is so important and I am so glad that you did. I know it can be a very hard thing to do but if you don't than it will be just that much longer to heal. I know
I haven't adhered to my schedule at all this week. My abdomen is definitely "talking" to me after the exercise from the weekend, so I'm trying the "listening to my body" thing that everyone always tells me I should do. I am planning on going to Tai Chi at the least tomorrow.

You are AMAZING. I have zero interest in biking or swimming, so I have infinite respect for you.
I'm hoping that I'll be able to do the half marathon I've registered for - it's March 10, but I'm not really going to be able to start training for it until the beginning of the year. :/ I can drop it down to a 5k if I need to, but I'd like to not need to. Oh well, at least I'm getting reconstruction out of the way all at once so that I can interrupt training for six months and then be good to go forever, right? ;)

Missed the bike ride last night, I did walk for a little over an hour at a decent for me pace... Rode the bike to work this morning so I'll have that in at least! Tomorrow I'll try my tempo run for the first time ![]()
I took ten minutes this morning to adjust the bike's hand brake cables. It's amazing how much safer I feel having solid brakes. I am laughing at myself for being too impatient to properly adjust them the FIRST time I noticed the issue! So now I'm riding with a bike helmet that yes, does give me crappy hair when I take it off at the office, and I have brakes. Adulting for the win!
