I read a meme that had a picture of a big guy at the gym on a treadmill and it said something like this :"Making fun of this guy would be like making fun of a homeless man at a job interview". Point being anyone at the gym is trying to better themselves, and no one should make fun of anyone cause each person has a personal goal they are working on.
There are a lot of larger people at gyms, if you get a chance to stop by one you might not feel as out of place as you imagine. Next some gyms have trainers that are educated and work with larger people to obtain their goals. You might call a few gyms and let them know you have some special needs being a larger person and have some concerns you'd like to talk to someone about. If you find the right gym they should be able to put you at ease about things like work outs, machines, and recommend a trainer who can meet with you.
Initially the price of a trainer might blow your mind, however finding a person who can get you started can make going to the gym feel really comfortable. Imagine going to the gym with a really motivational friend, your going to be busy learning and listening to them and won't even notice others around you, also they'll teach you how to use everything and so when you go alone you won't have anxiety of not understanding the machines work. If your budget will allow for it try calling a few gyms and talk to a few trainer if you find one you trust give a gym a try when you feel ready.
Until your ready though it's all about just doing something. Looks like your on the right track doing things there in your home. Youtube has so many videos those should keep you busy for awhile. Then before you know it, you might just find yourself in a gym.

Hey,
Looking for a workout buddy. I'm currently 473 lbs and had my consultation already. I'm on day two of my exercising and in my mind, I kinda need to workout some other place besides my home. It's my comfort level.
Trying to make this work. I don't want to be discouraged by my pain from working out.
Monday: Orange Theory (HIIT training) and 2.5 mile walk
Tuesday: Orange Theory and 4 mile walk
Wednesday: Orange Theory and 2.5 mile walk (depending on the OT workout, I may also hit the regular gym for chest, doesn't get hit hard enough at OT)
Thursday: Orange Theory and 3 mile walk
Friday: 3 mile walk
Saturday: 3 mile beach walk, Orange Theory, Chest at regular gym
Sunday: 5 mile walk
My must achieve goal is at least 10,000 steps per day!
Hi,
after i had my bypass I waited about 3 weeks to start on crunches and about a week longer for planks and such.
I never use the abdominal weight machine because this machine wether it's made by nautilus or someone else is made for men.
It builds your abdominal muscle outward so it can be seen , thus six pack abs and all that , I'm especially staying away from the rotating abdominal machine which builds muscle in your waist and I don't need it there ![]()
I hope everything is well is with you
Good for you. I hope that you get into hospice if that is what you want. It takes special people to do the job right. I feel that it is so important to want to do it and give these people the care that they deserve. Hope your studies go well and keep me posted on how you do
Boring stuff my way. I walked 1.7 miles on the treadmill yesterday...Took it easy. This last week I turned 61...And have mentioned before, I've had 2 heart attacks, so I work out, but never try to push myself to exhaustion. Today was a good day. I went to the gym...They have a former basketball court that they do exercise classes and yoga in. Nothing was going on, so I walked and brought my basketball. Walked and ran up and down the court...Pushed myself pretty good. Twice I grabbed weights...3# and 5#s. Walked and used the weights...Different movements. Tomorrow I see the doctor...Get the results of my labs. I hope to mow my daughter's front and back lawns Tuesday too...Cleaner air tomorrow. The rest of the week...I'll be at the gym if and when I exercise. The air is still not that great. Brian
Ah!! I think I know what you're talking about with clips.
Palliative care is a really amazing service. I'm sorry your co-workers are dropping the ball! That's got to be even more challenging in palliative care. :/ I'm currently working on a Gerontology/Aging Services degree and I'm hoping to become involved in hospice somehow. Some day.

I call them clips not sure what the name is but you have special shoes for the bike and you clip into your peddle. I know there is another name for them but I don't know it
I am a PSW and I work out in the community. I love doing Palliative care but sometimes it can be heavy duty. Right now the hard part is Co workers who do not do there job and I hear how upset the client and family are and they want me in even more. As it is it takes me over an hour to get home and I am doing 12to 16 hours a week and feeling bad because I am not sure I can take on more hours.
