Topic: Creatinine Clearance test/Preeclampsia...what's your experience?

So, had and appointment yesterday...with a Dr. I have not seen before since my reg OB is on vacation this week!  I was rushing a bit and was nervous since I didn't know the new Dr. and I knew I was getting checked...which I have been nervous about anyways...my blood pressure is always really good...except yesterday it was elevated.  They checked it again and it was still elevated but down from the first time.

This doc wanted me to do a 24 hour urine collection...even though I have/had no other signs of preeclampsia...so what has been your experience?  How did it turn out for you?  I really want to keep this baby in there another week...at least...my reg has mentioned keeping an eye on things since maybe 1/2x I had some protein in my urine...but she never was overly concerned...not sure what to think...I do NOT want to be induced!

Please help!

I would highly suggest it. You lose blood during birth. I lost alot and I didn't have an infusion and ended up with a Iron level of 3 and had to go through 6 infusions and have to be monitored.

I added a prenatal on top of my RNY regiment.

So here's what I take in a day:

Multi, B Complex, Protonix (used to take B12 here, too, but I get a monthly shot now)
Calcium, D3
Multi
Calcium
Prenatal
Calcium

Topic: Iron infusion while pregnant

Did anyone have to have an iron infusion while they were pregnant? My doctor is thinking about it for me, but I'm already 33 weeks. I don't want to have to go through it if I don't have to. Any advice would be appreciated!

that's a question for your obgyn, but typically you replace the multi with a prenatal but not two because you don't want to go over 1.22mg of folic acid per day unless they deem it necessary. depending on the type of WLS may affect how many times a day they want you to take a prenatal. you can always call and ask the nurse that works at the obgyn office. they should be able to give  you an idea of how much you should be taking.

I can more then appropriately care for my children, although maybe not at upper middle class American standards- which are usually the people who can afford to pay out of pocket for plastic or bariatric surgeons.  Your question shows a total ignorance of the health care and economic situation in America, in all sincerity.  That's why the horror that is Obamacare even went through.

Yes, pregnancy would be safe without the surgery.

If this is going to be the kind of response I get, maybe this board isn't for me.

Topic: 4 weeks pregnant - miracle

I'm 15 months post-op and just when DH and I settled ourselves and accepted our lives without children, we were thrown a curve ball.  I have PCOS and a blocked right fallopian tube.  We've been trying for children for 11 years and yesterday I found out we're pregnant!!

I don't see my ob/gyn until next Friday.  I don't see the bariatric center until September.  Do I need to see them (bariatric center) sooner or inform them?

Also, my regular vitamin regimen consisted of 2 multivitamins a day, 2 calciums per day and 1 chewable iron.  I went yesterday to pick up prenatal vitamins.  My question is do I take the prenatals + the 2 multis a day?  Do I replace 1 with the prenatal?  I'm lost and don't want to do anything wrong, since it's taken us this long to get here.  My biggest fear is losing this baby or doing something to unintentionally harm it.

Any and all opinions are VERY much appreciated, as this is my first pregnancy ever and I'm kind of terrified.

I had two post op pregnancies and no problems. But you should wait a year before having a baby after surgery.

What type of surgery have you been advised to have?  Would pregnancy be safe for you without having had this surgery?

Totally sincere with my  next question---if, as you stated, ".I don't have the option, due to finances, to see someone other then who my insurance will approve."  how in the world do you plan to financially care for more children that you may choose to have? I would think that you need to be concerned about your health first and be sure that you will be able to appropriately care for any children you may give birth to in the future
