I haven't supplemented protein since I was a few weeks post op (never found one I liked) I'm currently in my second post op pregnancy (plus I breastfeed for almost a year) and I've never had any issues from not getting "enough" protein. I'm only 5 feet tall and have a really small frame, so I think a lot of the recommendations for protein post op are way more than my body needs anyway. As for the sweeteners, they're certainly not ideal, but in moderation I think it is fine. My OB has no issue with my daily diet coke fix.
Nystatin powder is the best I had found hands down. It is a antifungal type product. It comes in a generic. I know my insurance I can get it for just a few bucks! It comes in a little container with a "shaker" lid on it and you sprinkle it on and I rub it on til it dries it up a little. I have a fairly large pannus, when I get a rash--I will use this and within 2 days it is gone. It is a prescription, so the dr. will need to prescrib it but they never seemed to have a problem giving it to me. It doesn't get pasty or gross either.

I was still quite overweight when I got pregnant with my first post op baby and just 5 months post op, so ended up losing 35lb in the first half of the pregnancy and only gained 10lb of that back in the last half. So I was down 25 pounds when I delivered him from pre-pregnancy weight.
This time I was 225lb pre pregnancy and currently 213. I lost down to 204 before I started gaining any back. Who knows if I'll reach pre preggo weight or not, but I doubt I'll surpass it - and if I do it certainly won't be by much.
With that said, even though I WANTED to gain weight so that my mind would be at ease that baby was/is growing well, it was hard to see that number start going up even after I lost initially. It doesn't bother some women, but if it ends up bothering you, stay off the scale. ;)
I'm 16wks pregnant. My Dr. took me off of my usual multi-vitamin, putting me on a prenatal. I was taking the prenatal twice a day (as I had done with my regular multi post-op.)
She yelled at me telling me I was taking too much by 2x's a day intake. She was worried about my Vit A, E and K (can cause damage). I am now to take prenatal one time per day.
I did ask her about my Iron. I was taking prenatal plus 65mg of Iron. She has now ordered me 340mg of Iron??? Do you ladies take that much Iron?
I had 2 babies prior to wls and breastfed both no issues, now have a 6month old born a little over 3 yrs post wls and no issues with supply--I do seem thirsty all the time and drink a lot of water
Thanks for the reply!
I've actually found a protein powder that has no artificial sweeteners in it. I'm concerned about the Vitamin A and minerals though.
Will report back once I speak with my doctor.
That's so crummy you were so ill. I'm very early and not feeling bad, hoping this lasts as long as possible!
Thanks again!
