Topic: RE: ~ Setting the pressure & masks ~
Hey Dawn,
I just ran across your post. I know I'm responding a little late but maybe I can give you a little insight... The pressure that is sent on your CPAP is a prescription by the doctor. You can not change it yourself and calling the manufacturer won't help (I work for one) as they will not tell you how to change to pressure- it would be like having them change your prescription... As far as masks- hopefully your insurance has a replacement schedule. You can call your insurance or your home care provider to go over benefits- and take advantage of them
.
As far as replacing your entire mask- have you tried replacing just the pieces that are broken? Check with your homecare provider to see if they sell parts and pieces, if not there are many websites that do...
Hope this helps.......

I think you need to contact your doctor about that or the company that supplied your machine. I have had one for years and I rarely drool. In fact, now I wake a few times a night dried out.
Good luck.

Topic: am I gonna drown?
Hi, this is kind of a silly question, but I've just gotten my cpap about 2 weeks ago, and when I use it, I end up drooling lots. I know that's gross but is it normal? I wake up and my face and neck are usually soaked and I feel like I'm going to drown.

Hi Angela,
I first started out with a C-Pap machine on trial back in 1997, however, that only lasted 5 days. I had a very high pressure of 22/12. My insurance company quickly decided to purchase the Bi-Pap for me. Big difference! Also, you should get a heated humidifier, since that also makes a big difference. Once I got my heated humidifier, I was no longer waking up and choking! I am now up to a pressure of 27/16. Since my bi-pap only goes to 24, my doctor is in the process of getting a ventilator for me which goes up to a pressure of 30. I will be having WLS in the new year.

Topic: RE: CPap related to my gas problem?
I use a bi-pap with a pressure of 17/12. When it was first setup, my pressure was 19/14 and my Dr adjusted it down. He said that the high pressure could cause the extra gas problems. Susan
Topic: RE: Dry Mouth
I am having the same problem since my surgery on 10/24. I use a chin strap and use a heated humidifier. I wanted to find out what others do that have the dry mouth. I never had it before surgery. I go to my Dr in January but need to do something different until then. Thanks! Susan
Topic: RE: Impossible to sleep without my CPAP
I have the same problem When I had my surgery they had me on O2 so I was able to sleep. I think I need the sound of it to help me sleep sometimes.

You may be due for a new sleep study. I didn't know that they should repeat them every couple of years until I started to prepare for my surgery. I now have 2 in my closet collecting dust. I have started to use the most recent as my travel machine even though it isn't at the correct setting.

I have been having this problems since I had my surgery. I also have the nose mask. I was thinking that the pressure is too high now. Any ideas?

Insurance should cover replacement hoses and masks every 6 mos. Keep calling or better yet appear in your docs office. Don't leave without an answer.
