An autopap is probably the way to go, wish they would give those to folks but they cost more and a standard cpap is cheaper!

Topic: cpap issues - dry mouth blowing pressure XPOST
(Posted this on the RNY board a couple days ago, Thought it would be good to cross post this)

Alright awhile back I had posted here and on the cpap forum about my problemm with the extremely dry mouth. Found out that the pressure was too high right after surgery. Amazing!  And what was happening was the pressure was just forcing my mouth open.

I'm now 7 weeks post op, about 63 pounds down since surgery 70 total and just ran a week with an auto pap at home.  My pressure is now at a 7 where as before it was at 12.

So you new post ops with CPAPS.  Think your having issues, contact your DME provider, they should let you do an auto pap trial at home, typically for free, they fax the order to your doc, the doc signs it and away you go  zzzzzz.

Couldn't find my orginal post, so i thought I'd just go ahead and add a new one.

Topic: RE: Help - How to heal a sore from the nasal mask?
Thanks for the reply. I have that mask and use a size medium nasal pillow. I wonder if I need the small? Did you try the small by chance?
Have a great day!

I had some of those problems when I fist started wearing mine.  Turns out that one did not fit properly for me.  So I tried lots of other ones, fortunately the place I get mine from would let me try them out before I bought.  That was very helpful.  The one I have now is fab and made just for a woman  it is a ResMed Swift LT for Her.  It has smaller nasal pillows for a more comfortable fit, and it just fits my face much better.  Also I was told by the guy I get the masks from not to use Petroleum products, because it will break down the mask faster.  He said KY jelly would be good for at night while sleeping,  this worked.  Now that I have this for her mask I don't need that anymore.  And I have not gotten any sore spots since I hae switched masks.  As for to get it to heal I don't see why lip balm would not hurt duriing the day.  Good luck!

Topic: RE: Post Surgery C-Pap Changes
Might want to see if you can try a CPAP with auto set.  That is what I have had from the beginning, it works well. I never have problems with dry mouth unless the humidity in the air changes then I just turn up my humidifier and all is good.  Now that I have been reading some of the boards here I am really glad that I have an auto ajust CPAP.  Good luck to you all in finding what works best for you.
God Bless!

Topic: RE: Please help me adjust to the Cpap machine
I am right there with you.  I just got a machine 2 days ago, to prepare for surgery.  Last night as I got into bed, I got right back out, and threw a sort of hissy fit..... I told my husband I'd rather not sleep at all, than wear that thing........
But, after I calmed down, I went back in for night two.  And, honestly, the beginning is the worst.  The man who fitted me told me that our brains fight it for the first few minutes.  The brain senses danger, and it makes us panic.  However, once the brain figures out that it is not hurting us, it allows us to relax.  I made it through night two last night, and am just making myself do it.

I REALLY don't like it, but I REALLY want to have this surgery, and have been through so much, that I am NOT going to let a little machine stand in my way.  Just remember you are not alone, even in the middle of the night........

I think it will be worth it.

One thing that really makes a difference on the machine I have , is that it has a ramp button, where you can put it back to less pressure, any time it bothers you...... that is really helpful.

Hang in there ..... You know it will be worth it.

I've heard from many people that it does get easier to sleep with.

I got a used one.  Ask them for that, and just tell them you need a discount.  Most places will work with you.
