The lifestyle that you followed for the sleeve should be very similar to what you will follow after any other weight loss surgery. Weight loss is from eating less calories than you burn. Any surgery can be eaten around.

My lifetime rules are to track my food, weigh daily, exercise daily and to diet when I have any regain. I don't call it a lifestyle change. To me it is a diet.

Bathroom issues depend on the person. I need to take fiber and magnesium every day. I add a laxative when needed. I also have suppositories and enemas in case of bad constipation. And x-lax in case of diarrhea. Some people have no issues. Many are OK with Miralax daily.

Most people lose 20 pounds with a revision. To lose more you will need to incorporate proper diet and exercise. Your body will fight to gain it back and you have to keep fighting for life. If I relax, I regain very easily. Skin issues are totally dependent on the person. I did a lot of weight lifting exercise during the losing phase which built muscle and kept the skin filled in. I still needed a tummy tuck since there was an area of excess skin that exercise could not get rid of.

Some weight loss will be from malabsorption. That depends on the type of surgery and on how much intestine is bypassed. The malabsorption from gastric bypass lasts for about 18 months. You could end up with permanent malabsorption. Your surgeon will answer that for you.

Good luck with everything.

I am being put on the waiting lost for either the biliopancratic diversion or, Gastric Bypass. The MD will decide which is moe ideal for me once the results from my endoscopy are available. I also have a Hiatal Hernia to repair. (sleeved in 2014 with regain & reflux)

i have watched numerous videos, and articles to get as much info as I can to prep for pre-op and lifestyle changes post op. The best advice I feel i can get is from those who have had the procedure

please let me know how things went for you. (The surgery itself, vitamins, bathrrom issues, skin, weight lost etc). Pros. Cons and whatever in between. Lol

thanks for ur feedback.

QueenBee7 - if you've got a separate thread, let me know - I'd hate for your question to get buried in my post and people can help if you give us a typical meal day.

Please don't think you are doing something wrong, you just have some very different challenges, and honestly, I might suspect some type of food allergy. I have never struggled with nausea or vomiting (unless I eat too much). Diarrhea is not an unusual "side effect" for BPD/DS due to the altered intestinal tract. Having said that, if I eat more than a single serving of any grain product, I will have a gas and loose stool issue. I just don't process grain well, any grain.

For me, sugar is the number one reason I will gain weight. It's not a healthy option, but if weight gain is your issue, you may want to look at upping your caloric intake to 4,000 - 5,000 calories a day, with at least half of them being sugar. Milkshakes are one of the best options for this (can you tell I have a history with ingesting massive amounts of sugar).

Good Morning Kate & all you other old time "DSers" :

I need your help. I'm trying to go back to the drawing board with my current health issues. I had my BPDS back in 2014. I'm currently 107lbs struggling to gain weight.

Can anyone shed light on what they are successfully eating or should be eating that might help get my appetite back and rid me of the nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

You guys have been so successful - clearly I MUST be doing something wrong.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like GERD or an ulcer. Neither to be messed with. You need to see your surgeon or a GI specialist ASAP

I just told my employer and co-workers that I was having surgery. I didn't say what kind.

Topic: Hunger and intolerance

so I'm a bit over one year post op. Sips/ loop ds/ Sadi-s. I'm having a hard time with food. Lately I feel like everything I was eating made me sick. I tried really hard controlling what I was eating. Cutting out certain food groups and things like that. I sort of gave up trying and my body just fixed itself on its own? I started feeling ok (not perfect but the intense pain and gas I was having was gone). But now something else started happening. I developed intense hunger that can not be satiated. I keep feeling PHYSICAL hunger. In the center of my stomach. I am constantly eating and I keep feeling the need to eat. It's not from dehydration because I'm also drinking a lot of fluids trying to stop the hunger. Any advice? (I kinda lost faith in asking my surgeon for help because when I told him that if I increase my fiber I get sick he told me I'm lying...) thanks!

I believe Dr. Keshishian in California has done this before and it seems to work well. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5240054/ Here is a brand name for you to look at. https://www.medicinenet.com/calcitriol-injectable/article.ht m Seems to me any doc should be able to order it if you can tell them what you want.

Calcijex might be a good option for lots of people.
