16 monts post op..

Aug 29, 2012

Hello Everyone, well a few things going on, I have lost as of today 187lbs, 16 months post op..wow. I still can't believe it. It has been a learning experience, I have learned so much about my body, how to listen to it, what it needs, how to exercise correctly, and I want to thank everyone again that take the time to answer questions  and post on this site.  Yesterday I purchased my first pair of pants size 18. The last time I was in a size 18, was over 20 years ago. When I started this journey in 04/2011 I was a size 44 in pants so I am very happy with my achievement, but more important I am so happy that I feel so much more healthy, I am training for The 3 day 60 mile walk for the cure. This has been a dreams of mine and  God willing I will be able to achieve this goal as it such a wonderful cause. Please feel free to visit my site any and all donations even if it  is $5.00  will help save a life.  I would like to tell all that are thinking of having WLS, do your research in order to  make a informative decision. I have been very blessed and wish the same for all.

15 months and 1 week post op.. I have made a decision..

Jul 24, 2012

Hello everyone, well I have lost a total of 183lbs since my WLS date of 04/13/2011, and still have a way to go but, I am happy to say that I feel great, stronger healthier and  i can do so much more. I have had no complications thank God.  I made a decision which i want to share with all of you. I have always wanted to be part of The Susan G Komen 3 day Walk For The Cure, I have volunteered my time to the event in the past but this time I will be walking it .Yes  60 Miles in 3 days, I pray my Lord will give me the strength to do this. I will tell you that if you have visited my page this is one of the things I want to achieve. Just a little over a year ago i could hardly walk from my car to inside the building of where i work and believe me when i tell you that was not a long walk at all, so to think that I am in training to walk 20 miles a day for 3 days for this incredible event in order to raise funds and awareness to this horrible disease, is still unbelievable to me. Please keep me in your prayers as I have had surgery on my left knee and need surgery on my right knee.  I will also tell you the training has not been easy at all but I will continue on .

Please support me as I participate in the 3 day walk.

14 months post op..

Jun 15, 2012

Hello everyone, well I am 14 months post op and have lost 176lbs. My BMI when I started this journey was 67.3 it is now 39.8. This has been a incredible journey I am proud and blessed to have a supportive family that have been here for me from the beginning and they continue to be on a daily basis. Thank you!! I feel great physically and emotionally, I work out 5 times a week and have decided to attend a meeting to see if I am ready to walk for the cure, yes i am hoping to be part of this incredible event and raised funds to help women all over the world. This would be one of my personal goals so wish me luck!! ; I wanted to share something that happened today at work that really upset me, as i was walking to my desk a co-worker who was talking to someone else looked at me and told me how great I looked, I thanked her said good morning and as I was walking away the other young lady went on to say " well the weight I have lost I have done with out surgery" OK what was that about, I don't know this person and why is it that people are so willing to judge others? I say educate yourself on the issue before you open your mouth. why is it that people think that when you have WLS you wake up in recovery many pounds lighter, I have worked very hard  exercising , eating healthy, vitamins, in-taking the protein our bodies need, charging my way of life. So to all that read this and run into what I did today don't let it get you down, keep looking forward and keep moving forward.  If you have been through something like this please give your opinion,

One Year.. wow

Apr 14, 2012

Well it sure has been a heck of a ride, if we can call it that. on 04/13/2011, was the day that marked a very important life changing life altering date forever in my life. First I will say, that I have no regrets thank the Lord. I did not come to the decision of having  WLS very lightly. Actually it was a very hard decision for me to make, as i was scared to have the surgery; but I am glad I did.. I research and research and talked about it with other pre op patients ,my  doctors, friends and family. As I have posted before this site and the wonderful people here have been instrumental on this journey that I embarked on 1 Year ago. When I started this journey I weighed 430lbs had severe sleep apnea, HB pressure, borderline diabetic and could hardly walk 2 blocks if that;  with out stopping to catch my breath. Today I weigh 270lbs I have lost 160lbs, I will be retested for my sleep apnea once i loose 25lbs more, as my doctor feels i may no longer need it. My BP medication has been cut in half and  I am no longer a borderline diabetic. I exercise 5 days a week waking, elliptical, and  strength training. I can walk 3 miles with out stopping which is a great personal accomplishment for me. If you are thinking about having WLS I would encourage you to do your homework; dot your I's and cross your T's as this is forever. You have to go through so much just to get a surgery date, and jump through so many hoops to get here then I would say; work it to your advantage in every way you can. Help yourself my working out, eating right, taking your vitamins, drinking your water, and in-taking your protein. Take full advantage of this site, ask questions and don't be shy about it. As  we all have been there or will be. Good luck to all and God bless.

10 Months and 2 weeks post op.

Feb 26, 2012

It has been quit a ride, so many changes have happen in my life since the surgery and I have been very bless to say all for the good. I have had no complications from the surgery to date and pray it will stay that way.  I have lost 150 Lbs since my surgery date. I am very proud of that: as it has taken allot of work on my part to achieve this. I Thank God every day for giving me the strength to get up every day and giving me the will power to work out, eat right, and follow the protein and vitamins ritual.  This tool that  was given to me 10 Months ago is that; a tool and it will help but for those considering WLS remember that is what it is, you must put your effort into it or you may not succeed. I do not regret the decision I made to have WLS, I had to do something for myself to help myself and this was the correct choose for me.  For those out there that read this and are not sure if this is the right path for them I would say do your research I have so many people that will come up to me at work and say" wow it is worth having that surgery as it seems to have worked for you" and my reply is when the surgery was completed i still weighed 430lbs, this is not a quick fix. You have to work at it for the rest of your life.
I will also advise everyone to come on to this site as often as you can, asked questions. This site has been so helpful to me in so many ways and I want to thank everyone who have posted and answered questions in order to find a answer or give it. you all rock.

9 months and 2 weeks post op.. update

Feb 01, 2012

Well today 02/01/2012, I am 9 month 2 weeks post op. I weighed myself and I am down a total of 146lbs,  I am so happy, feel so much better. I am exercising 4 to 5 days a week, but on the off days I try to keep very busy at home. I have come up with a few projects to keep me busy so I'm not sitting in front of the TV. Nothing wrong with the TV watching but I want to leave that for resting time.  My first project is my back yard; cleaning it up organizing it and making it look the way I really want it too, I have started on this project. My second project is painting the interior of my home. I want to give it a new look and that I believe is a great place to start. This project will not get started until I finish all the work on the exterior of the house. I have to say I would not be able to do any of this if not for my WLS and my commitment to it. It has not been easy but no one said it would be. This journey is for life and so I must embrace it I can't  stress enough how important it is to take your vitamins intake the protein needed , drink your water, exercise and don't weigh yourself daily as it can be discouraging. I weigh myself once a week. Keep moving it all helps.... and believe me.. you will see the difference.

Had my 8 month post op appointment with my surgeon

Jan 05, 2012

Well saw my surgeon today, he was very happy with my weight loss and even happier with my labs. My blood pressure medication has been cute in half by my primary doctor. My sleep apnea number(air pressure) has been decreased from 11 to 8 by my pulmonary doctor. So overall my surgeon was very happy with all of this. I asked my doctor today if he had a weight goal for me as he has never mentioned it. This is what I love about this man, his answer to me was that everyone is diff rent, he wants to see me off all medications feeling great and healthy; but that if i walked in to his office and said i feel great at what ever weight I feel good and healthy at; then that would be my goal weight. Again he made me feel that what I thought was important
not just a number on a chart that dictates what we should weigh because of our height. I feel good; I am exercising 5 times a week and getting in my protein and vitamins. I will continue to do my part as we must remember this is a tool.
