I was over weight as a teen but really became obese in my 20's after have my two girls.  I struggled with diet and exercise for last 20 years and decided that I am at a point in my life where I want the permanent change.  I am turning 40 this year and that is a big eye opener that I am not a spring chicken anymore and its not that easy to lose the weight at this age.  I have started to see the effects the weight is having on my body and I know things are only going to get worse.

I started the WLS journey in 2009.  I had been referred to St. Joe's  but through the process I had lost some weight.  When I went to see Nurse and Dietician I only weighed 220 lbs.  They did not feel I met the criteria at that time and quit honestly I was not mentally ready at that time either.  My weight slowly crept up again and I got to my highest weight of 252 lbs.  I was re-referred by to Bariatric Registry in August 2011 and this time I was ready.  I went to my orientation in December 2011 followed by all my tests in early 2012.  I am sceduled for VSG surgery on August 22nd 2012.  Here I go onward and downwards (pounds that is) !!!!

7 months post op
on March 18, 2013 2:14 pm

So I am one month late.  I wanted to update after 6 months but life just got too busy and the time went by.  Anyways here I am 85 lbs down and only 15 more pounds until goal.  I am really noticing the lose skin now but its really not that bad and a good trade off for how healthy I feel.  I am now working out at the gym a couple times a week.  Now I am starting to think about what maintenance will be like....can I do it ??  Its kinda scary to think about the scale not going down anymore.

I am thrilled with my new lifestyle I have changed is so many ways.  People I work with are more receptive to my ideas as well as my confidence is very evident to them.  In general people in public are more friendly they are talking to me in stores, restaurants, gas stations ect., again likely cuz I am more confident about myself.  I am making new friends and enjoying getting out for social events.

In summary I love my Sleeve...I will likely post another update when I reach goal !!!

Thanks to all my OH friends for your support.

Nancy

3 months Post-Op (Onederland)
on November 17, 2012 7:27 am

Just a quick update.....I am now almost 3 months post-op VSG and down 57lbs.  I now weigh 195lbs down from 252.  Here are the things that have changed:

  • I will never see a "2" in front of the number on the scale again...Whoo Hoo for Onederland broken heart
  • None of my pants fit me anymore...I had to go buy new dress pants size 13 and new jeans size 14.  I can still wear some of the tops but they are just bigger
  • I bough a new Jacket size Large at Ricky's
  • I have said goodbye to Additionelle and Penningtons 4ever
  • I can cross my legs with no problems
  • I can tie my shoes up without suffocating myself
  • I can shave with ease :)
  • I can wear high heals again without being in pain
  • I can go up flights of stair without losing my breath
  • My hubby cant keep his hands off me
  • I finally posted an update on my Facebook Page and announced my weight loss to everyone !!!

I am so happy with my new lifestyle...honestly this is a lot easier than I imagined it would be.  When I am full I stop eating.  I am always satisfied and not depriving myself from regular food.  No Regrets Here.....Love my sleeve!!!

One Month Post Op
on September 18, 2012 4:06 pm
So I just wanted to document how I am feeling one month Post Op VSG.  First off I want to say I don't regret it for one minute...I love my sleeve.  I feel like I have recovered exceptionally well and progressing without any difficulties.  I can handle most foods even foods from the next week.  I have not been sick, my incisions are looking good, I have not had any pain since a week post-op.  I have lost 29 lbs and feel so much healthier !!!  I am having a little stall right now but I am not letting it get me down at all.  I am starting to feel like I want to start exercising.  I am going to gather my runners and some sweats and start a walking regiment tomorrow.  I am rockin and loving my sleeve so far

My Story

I actually went through this referral process in 2009 and I lost 30 lbs so I did not qualify for the surgery....I also think I was not mentally prepared at the time as well.  I since have gained the weight back and hit a personal low.  I decided I was ready at that point to go forward and get re-referred.  I am so ready for this life change and so greatfull I will have this tool to help my reach my goal of a healthier life.  I am getting my surgery done in Hamilton Ontario.  I welcome questions and I can use all the support I can get.  Here is what has happened so far :
