Question:
How has this site been of value to you?

I have a friend who raises money for non-profit organizations who told me just now that government & private funding is out there for organizations like this. With this possibly on the horizon, feel free to help me out by describing if and how this site was of any use to you, i.e., How is it different from any other resource of its type? (There are gazillions of web sites out there, for example.) What information & contacts might you have gained? How might you have put these things to use? What might that have meant to you, and how might any of this have changed your life? Thanks!!! — ericklein (posted on May 11, 1999)

Most of the research I've done regarding weight loss surgery, I have done on this site. I've also had questions answered by other members. In addition, when something on the site puzzles me, I take it to my support group and get more information. This site has encouraged me to learn more and has taught me a great deal. Also, this site is becoming like a community, with the chat room. I am making new friends.

I found this site after my surgery and after I'd been part of OSSG for a while. What has been very nice is that I often answer questions and that makes me feel like part of a community and of being service to other pre ops or nervous post ops. I think WLS is a real life saver and I feel valuable being able to contribute. And not being the world's biggest smartie, I often read other posts and find better info than I had (and I'll be happy to pass that on). It's nice when people write me directly to tell me that they were encouraged or their nerves were calmed. WTG us!!! Susan [email protected]

Although I have only known about this site for a short time, I have already gained a wealth of information about the types of weight loss surgeries, insurance hurdles and personal post-op experiences. At this point, I am without insurance and am self-employed, though I may get a job that has insurance in the near future, or if I don't, self-pay for the operation. This site has given me a lot of valuable information. I also hope to contact some of the people in my local area for more extended e-mails and maybe more. Any kind of sharing of information and support like this site offers is wonderfully empowering. I know that I am not alone in this struggle and I share the joys of people who have posted such great success stories because I know how much it must mean to them. Thanks for setting up this site. Eric, I really didn't find this site until after my surgery. However, I have truly enjoyed helping others any way I can by answering their questions. It has been very insightful for me and I remember what a life-changing decision this was for me and how difficult it was to take that final step. You are doing wonderful things here.

When I found this site on the web it was like an answer to my prayers. I could find all the scientific research and info about the different types of surgery, but I wanted to get info from the people that had actually had the surgery and to get their reactions. I has also made me realize "I AM NOT ALONE", there are others out there that have the same ups and downs, wants and needs that I have and that in itself is a great comfort. I have check this site everyday and can't wait to see the new questions/answers and the chat room. Thank you so much Eric for developing it and I hope it never goes away.

Through this site I was able to find a certified surgeon who did a great job on a RNY for me. I also met many people who gave me valuable advise on how to survive the first couple of weeks post-op. The education and support I found here has changed my life.

This is a good site. It raises questions and gives some answers. I would caution anyone from taking the answer of any one "lay person", but to listen to comments from many sources and then sort out the answers with your doctor is a wise way to go. You who have started this site have done a good service to many people. I hope you will receive a reward for it . Thank You.

Eric: I can't begin to tell you how much this site means to me. Since my husband and I decided to pursue the surgery, we have had so many questions. The other members of the sites community are very responsive and helpful. Thanks a million. Deb

I wish I had found this site before I had surgery instead of two years later. Many of the little problems I had would have been easier to cope with, if I had known how common they were. I like this site because I don't feel so alone anymore. There are hundreds of people out there with feelings similar to mine, Thanks Eric for this great site. I will pass the message on... Bev.

I am waiting for insurance approval for a gastric bypass done at the Bariatric Treatment Center in Belvidere, Illinois. Of course I like to be fully informed of this procedure and like many peoples comments. I went onto a dieters bulletin board and inquired if anyone had the surgery. Someone e-mailed me this website address. I found like I have found hundreds of friends who have all the answers to the questions I have. Thank you for this site. Sincerely, Laura LaLuzerne

Hi Eric: When I found this website, it was truly an answer to prayer. I was tired of being overweight, tired of diets that didn't work, and tired of gaining more weight after they failed. I was depressed, scared, desperate, and very, very sad. I decided to do a web search on surgical options for treating obesity (bariatric surgery was a term I was not familiar with at the time)and I found your site. It has been a life saver for me! I have since decided to have WLS, found my doctor through your site, and even made a few friends who understand what I'm going through! Not only did your site tell me what I wanted to know, it showed me what questions to ask potential surgeons and why. In less than 4 weeks I will be having my surgery, and I cannot wait to start my new life! Thank you so much for this site, and for being there for all the sad and depressed people who think that this is the way the rest of their life HAS to be. I'm looking forward to many things now, but mostly to being the incredible shrinking woman!

I am thrilled that I found this website. It's great to be able to contact others that have gone through this and understand what it's like to be overweight and desperate for a solution. It's a very valuable resource to those who need information and to help research the decision. Thanks for being here!

Dear Eric, I actually found this site by accident. What a find!!! It has helped me tremendously. The friends I have gained alone is worth the visit. Someone in the "chat" actully picked me up and gave me new hope, after a bad experience with one clinic. I would like to see more info on nutrition after the surgery, and maybe recipes. This one web site has become so inportant to me. I am a post op RNY (1995) and when I had my surgery done there was not really any support out there for me. My daughter had the same surgery at age 16,(1995 also)and there was no support for her either. Both she and I enjoy this web site and find much comfort in the pages here. We have both been through what many of you are going through now and it is so nice to be able to be there for someone else. The web site has been so supportive to so many of us and I am thrilled to be able to tell others that it is here for them to see. As we all know the emotional side of this is monumental. Having a web site that we can go to to read about others even if all we do is read is so healing, I think. I am posting, here, a letter I sent to Eric so I can share it with my web family. Maybe I speak for more than just myself. I think we all feel the same about Eric and what he has done for all of us. >I saw your picture today at the web site.. You are a cutie.. relax >honey, I'm 50 and a newlywed... Old enough to be your mom.. ha ha ha >Thanks again, I know I keep saying that but I mean it so sincerely. You >are a Godsend! Somehow, Thanks just doesn't say it well enough!!! >Keep up the good work and the web site is terrific!!!! >Best on the web as far as I am concerned. I tell everyone about it. >Peggy Woodson

This site has been a god send. Befor I decided on surgery I started looking on the web for information. I ran across this site and it was a terrific support for me in deciding whether to have the surgery and what type to have. I did not know anyone personally who hadhad the surgery and seeing the photos and reading the testimonials and all of the facts about what to expect before and afterwards helped me so much. Eric Klein is helping thousands of people make decisions that will ultimately save their lives and the lives of their families. Before I considered this surgery I was 285 and eating all of the wrong kinds of foods and so was my husand. I was more fearful for his health than mine. He has high blood pressure and high colesterol. Now that I have had the surgery he is eating far better and is losing weight also. I have lost 24 pounds in 3 weeks. This is a wonderful site.

This site has helped me tremendously. I found my own surgeon through my HMO. I went to a pre-op appointment with him, his staff, his nutritionist and others. I felt like I learned a lot, but I still thought that there was a lot that I could still learn. Your site and its question and answer sections have taught me a lot of what I didn't even know I needed to know! It also put ne in contact with two women in my own home town that I have corresponded with. Their support is close at hand, and will be most helpful to me in the long run. It is nice to have someone close at hand. I would never have found them, if not for your site! Weight Loss surgery is not something that you geneally broadcast far and wide and it is not something that those who do not suffer with their weight like we do seem to be able to understand. It is nice to have peers to chat with and get and give support to! I also like the statistical data we can post on our own surgery results. It will be helpful down the road to see ourselves as an inspiration to others. Subscribing to others questions allows us to help others while we share others experiences and perhaps avoid problems they encountered. I feel like I am always right on top of things this way. I only hope I can be as much help to others after my surgery as others have been to me!

I've just heard about the open RNY and am surprised that I never heard about it before. I am so excited about this surgery that I WILL have one day. I called my insurance co. and found that they do pay for the procedure but they will review on a case by case basis and must have medical necessity. Checking into this site I saw the before and after pics and that was absolutely amazing to see such positive results. With having 160 pounds that I want/need to lose, this site helped me to make up my mind, that this is the way to go for me. I come to this site almost daily. If there was a prize for who visits this site most often I think I would win it. But when I do come to the site I am expecting to see so much changed and am disappointed that I don't see change. But thats ok I'm probably just missing the ones that do update frequently. Nontheless, I love this site, the chat room is helpful, the advice is wonderful, and the comrodery of all the people that have had or are going to have this surgery is just incredible. Thanks for having this site available to me.

With out all of you I would have never been able to reach this decision to have the surgery, I am 10 days from my big date and to say i wasn't scared would be telling a lie. I am scared, nervous and excited but am ready. I am sure I am making the right choice for myself. So again Thank you!!!

I really like this site. It's really good to know that I'm not the "only one out there" that is as overweight as I was. The chat room is great because you get to talk to the people "just like you"!! The q&a page is good, because, even being 6 months post-op, I do still have questions. Thanks a million!

Eric, your site has been the one site that has given me the contacts and information that have actually allowed me to go forward and schedule WLS surgery. I can't tell you the number of hours I spend reading through questions/answers and postings on this site. Seeing how others have gone through the WLS journey has given me courage and hope. I may be having surgery on March 8, 2000. It was through your "Surgeons in Maine" link that I was able to find a Dr. Aslam, of Augusta, to do my RNY. His nurse, Jeannie Coulter, RN., has been such a help in getting me through the process of insurance approval. Knowing that the site will be here to help me when I am post-op is the "cherry on the top" so to speak. I expect to continue to need to consult your site daily for many months (years!!) to come. Look for my contribution in the mail.

I want to thank you and all the hundreds of people that come on this site. I have been researching about WLS for about 4 months before coming onto this site. I had written to a couple of doctors from other sites for information about WLS but it was not until I met Dr. G on this site that I was finally given the hope that I might be able to have the surgery performed (I thought my insurance would not cover it). This site has given me a wealth of information about almost every topic that I may be concerned about, from pre-op questions to how to deal with depression after surgery. Seeing the photos and reading the testimonies was what finally made me decide that I wanted to go ahead and have the surgery. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and may god bless you.

I am scheduled for surgery March 24. This site has helped me soooo much! It has answered my questions and many of my fears as nowhere else has. There are times when I am in doubt as to whether I am doing the right thing, and then I read an encouraging comment from someone. In the past I have felt all alone in my quest for weight loss and the disappointment of gaining it all back over and over again. Seeing that I am not the only one and that I can win in this battle has encouraged me more than you could know. I still have half of my life to live and I intend to live it healthier and slimmer! Thanks to all of you for your candid and helpful advice!

I'm new to this site and have already recieved more information than I thought was out there. I found out that a surgery I was going to get, may be pretty bad. There are so many people who care here, make you feel like you aren't alone. I've never had that feeling whether it be from family or friends. I have already suggested this site to several other people, it is fantastic. I couldn't begin to say how much it has really helped me, it gave me the info even my own doctor was unable to give me. That right there tells you how valuable it is.

I am a revision patient. As much as I valued wls I also feared failing again. I believe I will be successful because of the support I have here. I am also grateful to have an interactive place to participate with others. I enjoy posting to surgery patients, and I love to meet each evening in chat. I learn about products as my friends discuss the best suppliments, and such.

I recently discovered this site in my search for information on WLS. I checked out quite a few and overall have found this site to be the most informative, user friendly and well put together. The prospect of actually putting oneself under the knife in order to make themselves better overall (physically and mentally) is a very scary one. One that no one can truly be totally prepared for. But with the support and knowledge that one can get from an area like this... an undertaking of this gravity can be quite a bit less frightening. In the few days that I have toured the sight,I have gotten information on doctors, read personal stories and spoken with quite a few people both pre and post op. I truly believe that these are things I could not have gotten so completely and in such a personal way had I not had access to this site. I would like to personally thank Eric Klein for putting such obviously hard work into this site. I would also like to thank every one of you who comes here & lends the type of support only fellow WLS patients can provide. Good luck to us all!

This site has been such a big help both before and since my surgery. It helped me to become very informed on the surgery types, gave me the chance to know a little about my surgeon before going to him, and has just been a source of a great wealth of information. The Chat channel has been a big help before and since the surgery by allowing me the opportunity to talk to others going through the same things I am. We don't have a local support group unfortunately. If you haven't been through this, it is hard to understand how important support really is during this entire process. Eric, I really appreciate all the hard work you have done on this site!

Eric - thanks a million for the most comprehensive, informative, compassionate site I have come across! I began researching WLS in October '99 and found several medical sites and individual's web pages, but this site has the best cross-section of information I have run across. I think the "Find Peers" section was the most encouraging part when I first discovered the site. I loved "meeting" my web-wide peers and being able to compare notes with people from my home state. Many folks who struggle with obesity are isolated either geographically or physically and you truly put a support network at their finger tips. Maybe this all sounds like an info-mercial or paid advertisement, but it's right from my heart - thanks a million!

Eric, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't be nineteen days away from open VBG surgery. I found the site by (happy) accident, and it was through an e-mail from another site member that I found a new surgeon and, this morning, got a date after more than two years of waiting! The information posted on the site is invaluable -- nothing like being able to "talk" to others who have been there and done that. Alone, we are weak -- together, we will conquer the world. Bless you, my friend.

Dear Eric, How can one thank you for the new friends I have made? For all the information that I would never have known? There are so many questions that one forgets to ask ones doctor and this site has answered so many of them without my having to remember at the office. It has also made me feel that I am not alone in this quest for health. I never ever knew that there were so many people who were feeling the same as I was and who were getting the same help that I had found. Now, after having the surgery, and getting to my goal weight, I can also help the new person who is in the position that I was 10 months ago. This is a family that we have here. Mostly everyone wants to help one another and it's such a blessing. The other web sites that I have found on here are just too difficult to get into or too complicated to keep up with. I get mail from one of them and delete it immediately. I look at each and every question that comes through this site. Thank you so much for your help and love for all of us. Barbara

Eric, You and this site are a God send. It is organized and easy to surf around. It even helped my husband to understand what I would be going through and what he could do to help me. You should create a section for members loved ones who also would like to know advice on how to help the person about to go into surgery and post op. Thumbs up from me.

This site has been extremely helpful to me. I started with zero knowledge about WLS and now feel comfortable making a decision to consult with a surgeon. I am confident that I will continue to maintain contact with others in this group as I find my way through the maize of questions and answers. This is the only site I have found that offers such a well rounded view of the procedures used in WLS. Also, the information I found here was directed more toward answering my questions and less toward locating customers.

April 24, 2000
Eric, you have definitely earned your angel wings! To say this site has been helpful is a definite understatement. This website has been a God send! I have learned an invaluable amount of information. In fact, I am knowledgeable enough now that I am able to explain it to my family, along with the possible risks, the various procedures, and what to expect. I feel much more at ease with my decision. They always say that word of mouth is the best form of advertisement. I feel this is so true. After finding this site, it solidified my decision on my surgeon. Who better to hear testimonials from then his prior patients?! Although the monthly support meetings are a great way to learn more about your doctor, if it were not for this site, I would not have had access to so many of his patients. I was so impressed with this site, that when I went to my first seminar the doctor held, I bragged about it. Because everything the doctor covered on the first night, I pretty much knew and had learned from here. THANK YOU just doesn't seem to be enough for all your hard work!

This site has given me hope. It gives me a chance to learn about my health, the different types of surgery available. Most of all. I don't feel alone and afraid someone will make fun of my questions. I feel accepted by others and feel with the information I have received I can make a educated decision about my health and my life. I'm very happy this site is available to everyone. Anyone who knows someone who needs information in Spanish please let me know I will be glad to help them if I can.

All the resources available here have been a great help in my decision to have WLS. From the support you recieve to all the wonderful information you can obtain. This is the greatest site I have ever seen on this subject. There is such a "group hug" feeling that I get from this site. Everyone truely understands how you feel and how failing at diets have destroyed our lives. I like that I can read the experiences everyone has and feel the hope for an end of this nightmare. Know what you have to consider if you are going to have the surgery and the risks and the wonderful outcome it can bring if you are ready to do the work. I feel well informed and not alone in this and NOT ALONE!!! Thank you for so much help and support

This site has been an amazing help to me. I can't get over the willingness of the people to help others through their WLS journey's. There is such a bond! I can e-mail a total stranger and after just one or two letters, I feel I have a friend. The people on this site has been very instrumental in my decision to have RNY. I have had very straight forward advice. It means a great deal to have input from someone who has lived it. Thanks so much to all of you. Barb Worthman

I found this site 1 yr. ago and I still am in awe that I am on the other side of the fence. I was amazed at how much information I found about bypass surgery. What really impressed me the most is that there is the ability to communicate via email or chatting online with people in various stages of having this surgery. A person is able to get any number of scenarios spelled out for them. This helped me a lot to realize that this life altering change affects every person differently. I was able to research it thoroughly as well as get tips on how to look into all the pros and cons. I have had the opportunity to advise people who ask me "what have you been doing to lose weight?" by telling them about my surgery and telling them about this site. Rather than saying "go ahead and have surgery" I feel that visiting this site will give them every angle a person can think of to make informed choices. It is very user friendly and I basically make this my main stop for updates and such. I love it here!!

I would like an answer to this question. I rarely post to this list as it doesn't apply to me. But when I take the time to post a note and the management Gods see fit to delete it,I want to know WHY? I was simply responding to a grossly inaccurate interputation Of the DS surgery. My response was removed but the inaccurate interputation remains and I want to know why. MANY people are talking about how biased this site is to RNY patients and I wasn't sure I believed it but today I do. There was absolutely nothing mean spirited or hateful about my post. As a matter of fact I was trying very hard to reframe because I am a firm beliver in we are both gonna perish if we don't stop bickering. My only intent was to correct the misinformation so that innocent new comers want be mislead,so they will know that there is an alternative to WLS other than RNY.Besides if you are going to apply for funding you need to realize your name insinuates Obesity Help not RNY Help. I would really like to know why my post was removed? Thank You;

Kay... you said a mouthful. This is *supposed* to be for all of us. But for whatever reason, the DS'ers surgery choice is always getting trashed and our credibility is always questioned.

Eric, this site has been invaluable to so many people. I get e-mail all of the time from people wanting to have surgery and asking questions. I am so glad that my experiences have helped others. It is all because of your site. Kudos to you Eric! and those of your staff that have worked so hard also!

I have just started my approval process and can't begin to express the help and resources this site has provided for me. I really stumbled on the site while surfing for what I could find out about wls and have found it to be a gold mine. Not only are the resources on this site excellent beyond belief, but the links provided are also great for providing information. Thank God for this site and what it has provided for me. I have spent hours here reading and researching and have found the information and courage I needed to proceed with what I truly believe will be a life saving operation for me. I have already shared this site with several people and am planning on providing my pcp with the flier to use as a resource for other patients he may have who want to consider wls as an option. Thank you a hundred times over.

It's hard to say what I appreciate most about this site -- it's *all* so incredibly valuable. I've never seen anything like the depth of unvarnished information here -- on the procedures, on surgeons, on insurance companies. And the community is an astonishing resource -- so many people working so hard to help others. If any organization deserves grant funding, it's this one. The work done here is truly commendable.

This site is a God send!!!Learn steps needed to go through entire process.I was able to learn types of surgeries, names of surgeons. When I went into my PCP I felt I was so prepared because of all I learned from this sight. How could he not write the letter to insurance when I KNEW what I was talking about. I am so ready thanks to you.I'm waiting for insurance approval, but feel so optomistic because of all the personal stories I've read.I also just recieved "Making the Journey Together" book. What a wonderful read, could not put it down.Tells you EVERYTHING!!Thank you for being here for us!

If I had not found this web site I could be dead right now and not sitting here reading all the questions and message borad as I have done everyday for over a year now. I had been told if I did not lose weight I would not live to see my 40th birthday. I found out about the different types of surgery, the doctors in my area that do each surgery, the insurance companies that will cover without a fight and how to deal with all the tests required just to get to have the surgery. I approached by primary doctor with a ton of information I had printed from this site and he learned as I did about weight lose surgery. When I did interview the three doctors I knew the questions to ask. I knew what to expect from the surgery and how to prepare my family for what to expect after the surgery. I am alive today thanks to this wonderful site full of great informaton and very kind and caring members. This site saved my live and I try to tell as many people as possible this is the place to find the information about weight loss surgery.

This web site is amazing. One night, seeking emotional support for being overweight, I found this site and learned about weight loss surgery. Changed my life? You bet! I am almost five months out and have lost 90 pounds! I have a 25.0 BMI! This site is the most comprehensive, the most user friendly, and informative one I have found and I spent hours scouring the web for information before my surgery. I check this site daily. I have learned valuable information here, met local contacts, and found a number of friends through this site. I am so grateful that I stumbled on it, quite by accident, that night and educated myself ...

Eric, of all the websites that i have found pertaining to wls, this is the only one that doesn't take a side. We can post here of pros and cons.. we can read the progress of our friends that we make here and of strnagers that we don't know.. I can read about how people got to the point of wishing the surgery and their feelings post op good or bad. This place gives the balance of the benifits and risks with out hiding behind those that it has helped or hurt. I can honnestly say this site is not like any other i have seen. It has helped me not only choose the kind of surgery i want but the surgeon. thanks for such a great gift.

Eric, I wanted to let people know that your website is a fabulous way of learning alot about every topic there is reguarding weightloss surgery. I myself had done all the research on my own because my primary doctor didn't know too much about it. Across my journey I have met several friends too. I wanted to say not only has it been very valuable to me, but I also came across a wonderful person who reffered me to her surgeon who was alot closer for me then another one that I had previously chosen. I went through with my surgery and can not even think about what it would have been like without the doctor that I had. He was wonderful and caring... not to mention, is there at a moments notice. I also have met alot of people that have had the same doctor and also found my angel here on this website, whom I love dearly, and is there for me always. I just wanted to also say that I have done alot of major research on other sites, and no other sites have all the valuable information for this type of surgery than yours. I think in closing.... I wanted to say thank you for all you have done for so many of us. Lisa Kovach

I learned about the surgery from doctors, but didn't know how to speak to others who had it. When I found out about this site, I felt I had an instant peer group. I was really scared, and still am, about surgery on 11/7/00, but reading about others has given me courage to take these huge steps. I will be healthy and informed as I benefit from the knowledge imparted by others through experience.

I have learned SO MUCH about WLS on this site. I've been researching for a few months now and this is my number one source of good information. I really like the peer lists which make it so much easier to find those near you who you can maybe speak with about their surgery experiences, etc. This is just an all-around blessing, from the peer support to the lists of surgeons and the Q&A's Thanks so much!

This site is terrific I have learnd so much from it. The profiles are so inspirational to me , some of these people sound like they are writing my life story, surgery scheduled for 2-5-01. am terrified to have this surgery but, I am also terrified not to.I weigh 415, the biggest I have ever been in my life but I want to live so I am going to go to the other side and see what it has to offer me.

My PCP brought up the idea of WLS, but he did not have any hard facts for me to explore. I have a referral to my surgeon, but this is still a ways off. My husband and I started exploring the internet, and found this site. I am so glad we did. Peer support and information has been the most helpful for me. Knowing that everyone else on this site is taking the same journey as me has been a very useful tool. I appreciate the honesty of all who post to this site. Thank you for making this available.

Dear Eric and all,
This site has saved not only my life, but lives of countless others who saw its beacon shining on the horizon through our darkness. With my surgery only 9 days away, I will take that very special Christmas Card I received in the mail and set it right by my hospital bed to remind me of everyone here that cares so much about each of us. Thanks for being in the ministry of saving the lives of many people that society has just written off. We need you, and need each other to keep saving more lives!
Thanks again,
Jeanne M. Hello, Eric and Everyone, I am pre-op and approved, but no date has been set. I have scanned the net on a regular basis looking for a just like yours. And here it is, your site is very informative. I am still in the research stage of reading your site. So, I haven't gotten around to everything, just yet, but what I have read so for has been great. I espcially like being able to connect with people in my very own city. Thank you for a terrific site. And keep up the good work! Sincerely, Carlene

Hi: I learned of this site kinda by word of mouth. I absoltely LOVE it. It has answered so many questions. It has also helped me find people in my own state, and city, and with the different docs I was considering. Where else could I have got such detial? You really do have this site very well organized! I love to be able to ask a question, then a while later get helpful answeres (from people who speak from experience!) The one "down" side (if you could call it that) is all the advertisment from BTC. I feel that this is more than half theirs. (Although, I have never felt that I couldn't post a question) It would be nice to see other groups/hospitals/doctors advertising on this site. Regardless, it has been invaluable to me in making my decisions, and LEARNING. (Knowledge is POWER :) Thanks.

I met a few wonderful people tonight that had this surgery and had posted things on this webpage. And it has made me see that this surgery has it's ups and downs but it will be worth it in the long run. I found this site from doing a search on weight loss surgery. It has helped me to meet these wonderful people.

This sight has been invaluable to me and tens of thousands of other people. Without it I would be making the weight loss journey alone. I can honestly say that I got 10% of my information from my physician and 90% from this sight. What I get from this sight is REAL - not just some expert speaking from a textbook. What I get from this sight is honesty, intergrity and understanding. It's like therapy in a bottle. 24 hours a day I can go to the "questions" section and get the answers I need. I don't have to disturb my physician with every tiny concern - he has a life too. Where would we all be without it? Eric, you and your wonderful staff deserve any and every dime you can get to help in this noble endeavor. I couldn't have done without you guys!!

This site has definitely been invaluable to me. It has let me see both the positive and negative sides of WLS in human terms, instead of statistics, so I know what I'm going into now with my eyes wide open. Without this site, I don't think I could have actually have made a completely informed decision about having the surgery itself, let alone known about the different types of surgery, which one would be the best for me, etc. You and your helpers do a great job, Eric and I know this site is a godsend to many of us who are surrounded by others that believe we can lose over 100 + pounds by exercising and eating right alone. (Let me tell you, I work out 4 days a week for 1 hr day and try to eat right and if it worked and that was the solution for morbid obesity, I wouldn't be 150 lbs overweight! ) That does work for some people, but for I think the large majority of us (no pun intended), once we get to the point where we are morbidly obese, we need a tool like WLS to achieve our weight loss goals. Your site is probably the only site where you can actually get the real information you need if you're thinking of undertaking this journey. Other surgery sites may have several testamonials, but they don't compare to the scope of this site, nor do they provide the multitude of answers that we need and can find on this site, or just can ask. Thanks!!!

I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO START THE PROCESS FOR THE SURGERY FOR OVER A YEAR NOW AND NEVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND HAVE JUST BECOME MORE UNHAPPY AND UNHEALTHLY AS TIME GOES BY. I THOUGHT FOR SURE MY INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER IT. I FOUND YOUR SITE AND CHECK INTO INSURERS AND FOUND SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAD MY SAME PLAN AND WERE APPROVED FOR THE SURGERY. I NOW HAVE HOPE. MY PCP REFERRED ME TO A SURGEON AND SAID THAT INSURANCE HAS NOT BEEN A PROBLEM WITH APPROVALS. MY FIRST APPT W/THE SURGEON IS IN APRIL (CAN'T GET ANYTHING SOONER) AND I NOW HAVE HOPE THAT THIS WILL BE APPROVED AND IF IT WEREN'T FOR THIS SITE I WOULD NOT HAVE PERSUDE IT. THANKS SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE WITH THE INFORMATION THAT I NEEDED. I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ONCE I SEE THE DR AND THE INFORMATION I POST WILL HELP SOMEONE ELSE TO GET THE HELP THEY NEED. THANKS.....................

OH MY GOD!...where do I begin! This site has saved my life! I'm from VT and there is only one surgeon who does this surgery here so the wait for 1st consults and being scheduled for surgery totals about 9 months, if it wasn't for this site I would have gone crazy during the wait! Having someplace to to everyday (sometimes 10 times a day) gave me a chance to talk to people who could relate to my fears, frustrations and exitement. My surgeon and her staff are all wonderful, but they just wouldn't have the time to provide the service this site can provide. The way everything is organized is incredible! There are very few web sites that I can think of that are as easy to navigate, everything is easy to read and easy to find. Thank you so much for your ongoing work...I've tried, but I don't think I could ever adequately describe how much this site has been a Godsend for me and so many others!! Thank you a 1000 and 1 times!!

This is the premier website to help the morbidly obese help themselves. I did nearly all of my research on this site, I was inspired by the sheer numbers of sucessful postops, and I recieved support in the chat room on numerous occasions. I honestly can say had this website not been as robust or informative, I would probably not had the courage to follow through with my RNY gastric bypass surgery. Thank you Eric, and all AMOS website employees and volunteers for your work to make this website such a valuable and welcome resource.

I look to this site for answers and support from people who know what I am going through and how I feel. This site is invaluable to me. No where on the web can you find such a vast amount of information about WLS and obesity, as this site. Keep up the great work!

I love this site. I found my physician through this site and have visited with other people from my state and learned what so many people are going through and REALLY know we don't have to go through this alone. Keep up the good work.

This website has made an enormous impact on my life. I was really unsure if WLS was for me when I discovered this site. After reading many of the profiles I knew it was. I found my surgeon through this site. He is so busy that he doesn't need to advertise, so I would have never found him otherwise. Thank you so much. You have given me my life back.

NOT YET HAD MY SURGERY BUT KNOWING THAT THIS SITE IS AVAILABLE IS TRUELY A BLESSING.......HEY I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE A WLS CONVENTION AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR IN DIFFERENT STATES STARTING WITH ATLANTA....PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THIS.

I'm sure I'm not saying anything new but this sight is AWESOME. Let me say that I've been to other sights and joined a YAHOO WLS club. I was confused and overwhelmed by these other forums. By contrast, this site is organized, personalized, and inviting. I love the way the Q/A section is set up separate from the message board. The library is wonderful too. I never know what new question I'll be looking up. The best part is the personal profiles and surgery pages. This makes all of us feel special. I read a new profile at least once a week. These are very special and I almost always tear up because they're so personal and touching. As others have said, I don't know what I'd do without this site. As soon as I get my tax refund I'm donating. :)

When I look back over the course of a year , and see where I was and where I am now,I am overwhelmed with gratitude and joy. I am grateful for this site dear Eric, because it gave me hope and courage . The personal weightloss stories were a great inspiration for me showing me that ordinary people did this and I could too. Also in every step Preop to Postop , I had others who would give me advice when I asked or even scold me because they cared . Late at night when I couldn't sleep (preop) and fear would get the best of me I would come here and read the inspirational stories that gave me the courage to get myself to the next day and the next day until I made it to the other side. Then once there I was constantly reassured I would get better with each passing day and I grew stronger and more confident. And even now I read the postings and try to help others who are where I was. Thank you for this wonderful life changing website . I have my life back now and I promise never to waste a day of it.

I am still waiting for an answer from my insurance company after being denied right out of the gate. This site has helped me keep my spirits up by showing others that have had to struggle to get there, but they DID make it.. Also, it has helped to read about others experience both before and after surgery. Somedays I want this so bad I can barely stand the waiting for approval, so I go in and read what others have been through, how they are doing etc. It is a comfort to know that there are others out there who are going through, or have gone through, what I am going through. And I love the photos!!!!!!! What a pleasure to see how much this has helped everyone. I can't wait to get there myself! Thank you all so much for your sharing, and thanks so much for the site.

First off, I want to thank Eric Klien for this wonderful site. I was referd to this site by Dr. Festus Dada's Office in Wildomar, California and since then, I have spent countless hours on here, it has become my second home. It has been a God sent for me. I feel much more aware of this whole process after reading what so many others have gones thru. It has really helped answer alot of questions for me. I have also been able to meet people in my area that are considering suregery or have had the surgery. . I can't say enough about, again THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!

I am new to all of this. I have only recently decided to go for bariatric surgery. Thus far, I'm at the very beginning of the whole process (going to my doctor, processing healthcare approval, etc.). The best thing about this site for me at this point is having other people who have experienced what I am about to go through. It's very comforting to know that there are people that I can turn to with questions and to ask for their advice. Until someone forwarded this site in an email, I had no idea that there were people/organizations out there to help and listen.

First of all,all of us should thank Eric, his time and trouble does not go unappreciated. If it wasn't for this site all of us would lost in one way or another. My wife and I both pre-opt but have learned so much here. At first I was wishy-washy about going thru surgery, but after reading posts on this site for about three weeks,I'm sure this WLS is for me,and all I can say now is bring on my date. I have E-Mailed several people with comments and questions, and have gained so much from everyone of them. There are alot of good people out there, and this site seems to bring them all together. I check the site everyday and always read the recent posting. I know as we(my wife and I) go through the surgery and post-op we will be using this site all the time-it is great!!!!! God Bless all of us as we go through this process together. Again Thank You Eric and God Bless You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thank Heaven for this site. I have found the answers I have searches Hi and Low for. I have found the support and guidance that I have longed for. The most helpful of all is the reviews of the doctors that I had considered. It is great to hear from the patients point of view. So many times you are walking into there office flying blind so to speak. Knowing that I now have the venue and support to acheive my weight loss goal is truly uplifting. Thanks to all who make this web site available to the public. Kepp up the good Work.

I check this site every 2-3 days. If I have a question, I use the library. When I need inspiration I read the journals. When I think I can help, I answer a question. If I feel anxious, annoyed or frustrated with my weight loss, I know that I am not alone. I am in a rural area and 150 miles from a support group. I use this site as my support group. I have gotten good information about vitamins, exercise, protein and attidudes from the Q&A. I only wish I had found this site before I had my surgery.

This site has been a wonderful educational tool for me in my quest to learn more about bariatric surgery! It is a wonderful thing to be able to learn about the surgery and follow the journey of so many wonderful people as well! This is such a major step and a last resort for so many of us, it really helps to be able to read profiles and to actually converse via email with people who are post op. It lets all of us get questions answered about different surgeons, insurance companies, complications people have encountered, how they recovered, and what their thoughts are as to undergoing surgery again. Thank you Erik for all of your time, effort and hard work!! Your dedication has saved the lives of many, many people! I read Q & A everyday and always look at whats new. In fact, I finally made this site my home start up page, that way I didn't have to do any surfing to get to it!! Thanks again to Erik and all of you out there to help keep this site up and running!!

First, I came to this site by "chance" having done a seach for ANYTHING about WLS. I was overwhelmed by what is here. Next, I began to seriously utilize this site to find information about other's experience with my insurer --Tri-Care. Then, I began to use the site to find others in my part of my state who had used Tri-Care and their experiences. Then I posted a question on the Q&A forum. Since then, I have continued to access this site at least once a day, usually morning AND evening, and I have begun to read more and more what people have experienced and get all the resources that I can as I walk through this process. I can't express what a blessign this site is to me.

I'v just come on to this site and I've been on it for approxmately 3 hrs. I'm very, very GLAD it's here! I'm going to tell my girlfriend AND her sister about it so they can come by, too! I found it to be "extremely" helpful and I haven't stopped reading YET! May you be quite SUCCESSFUL because my girlfriend, her sister and myself were grasping at STRAWS the other day. Well, not anymore! I'll be back and I'm bringing them WITH me!!!!!!!!

This site is wonderful. What I love most, and there are so many things, but what's really important to me is the "Message and Q&A board". Hearing the voices of others who have been or are where you're at is invaluable. I first came to theis site in December by way of a link from Yahoo. I read so many posts from Post-ops and pre-ops alike, then I researched the various WLS. I did visit other sites, but found that the information wasn't as indepth as AMOS. I was approved on March 29 and my surgery is scheduled for May 29. When I found out that I was approved I couldn't wait to update my profile :o). So, thank you so much for this great site!!

This website was truly heaven sent. I don't know how I found it, but I believe it was meant to be. The inspiration I have received from many courageous people willing to share their lives has been a blessing. I visit here many times a day. This website is a wealth of information for any question you can think of, and it is all due to real people with real problems, trying to help each other out. When you hear of all the problems in the world, there is one place you can come to see the goodness of people, and THIS IS IT!

I have felt alone and "freaky" since my operation. There is no local physical support group nearby. I didn't know anyone who had first-hand experience of this surgery. NOW I DO!!!! This website has been like finding a lost love. I can share or just observe. I can research. I can follow examples of 'tried' approaches. I AM NOT ALONE! I CAN FIND A FRIEND 24\7! IT IS GREAT! I THINK I CAN DO IT NOW! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

April 8, 2001
I started my research in July of 99 and this was one of the first sites that I found. As a nurse I wanted to know exactly what I was getting into. I was able to find my answers right here. I also got answers to my insurance problems and most of all I found out that I wasn't alone. I am fortunate to have a local support group that meets monthly, but I still find myself coming right here when I just need to talk to someone. I mean someone who knows and has experienced the surgery. I had to wait about a year for my surgery and the waiting was horrible. I had nothing but hope to hold onto. I found that hope right here at Obesity Help. I would spend hours going through the photo's and telling myself, this is going to be me. Now that I am 7 1/2 months post op and have lost about half my weight that I need to (151lbs) I still find myself coming back to the chat room where I have made friends and to the photos and message boards. I don't really know what I would have done without this site and for that I thank you very very much from the bottom of my heart. You all are so wonderful. Judy Hensley

I found this site about 4 weeks before my surgery date. I was in www.google.com looking for before and after pictures I think. I was in that stage where I was dreaming and hoping I could be like those people who shopped normally. I clicked the link to here and cried over the pictures I saw. I went to the message board and q & a next and read for hours. After that I made my own profile, read some more and logged into chat. It's been the boards and chat that have helped me the most. Talking with real people and getting tons of information. I had sheets and sheets of things that I would jot down. I made my list based on what I heard, and I got recipes and ideas from post op's. The support and information is so valuable to me. I come here every day several times a day, but it's the chat room I appreciate more. Talking and sharing and reading. I have had the priviledge to be an angel a few times and that too is rewarding.....to see somebody start a new journey. My only sadness is that I am in Canada and the exchange makes it out of my budget to afford a t-shirt, or to donate money to help with the running of this site. Eric, I really hope this place never shuts down, it's the key to my motivation and I hope will be what stops my complacency in the future. Thank you for all you and your staff do.

There are not any words that can describe what this web site has and does mean to me!I was lost in a web of wondering what to do and were to find help & information about WLS.I happened on this web site quite by accident,Or did I? I have found friends and a varitable mountain of information, and where to look if I couldn't find it here. I have met people via e-mail who have written to me personally when I was down or scared and it helped and led me to where I am today,Under going pre-op testing to have WLS!! I never could have made it without the support from this website and the people on it.I am going to be someone's Angel who is having surgery by the same DR I have at the same hsopital. Not only have I made a friend whom I will met the first time after she has surgery. But I will get a look see at what I can expect. As an RN I don't think they can surprise me too much.but when it is you having the surgery,Nurse or not, it is different,as you are now the patient and not exactly in control! I recommend the web site to all my friends searching for answers in the hopes they will log on and find some help, God willing.I don't know what else to say.Thank you to Eric for starting this invaluable wonderful wedsite. You have done a fabulous job!You should recieve a metal.the book compiled by you and Jeannie is great and so are the t-shirts by the way! That being said I must close ,I have been on this site all morning,Angel Hugs Patricia L (:0

How do you describe that feeling you get when God has answered your prayer? Then how do you feel when you're lost and don't even know what to ask and then suddenly their are answers before you? Well...this is how I felt when I found this web-site. What a blessing to the thousands of people who have been beaten by poor self esteem, been stereotyped, ignored and laughed at, to finally have resources offering them the ability to rise above a place in their life that seemed so hopeless at one time. A place where knowledge is power and emotions are shared, and a place to just be who we are without fear of predjudice. I am awaiting surgery, and in the meantime I will return to others what has been offered to me. I will be their sounding board, post my journals, and help quench the thirst that a person has when first learning about WLS. I thank you Eric, as well as all the hundreds of people that opened their hearts and let some of their most private feelings and pictures be shared. May God be with you all! Roxanne H.

This is the first site that has an extensive list of participants, as well as a great source of information. Being overweight tends to create an exclusionistic sense; here, there are others going through the same processes, and everyone seems willing to help, to "chat". It goes a long way to getting stronger and feeling better about such a life changing procedure

This site has eleviated the isolation I feel related to my decision to have WLS. My family is overly concerned about the surgery. They do not have all the information about WLS, or know anyone else seeking such a drastic measure for weight loss. This site has enabled me to eleviate the fears of my loved ones. It has also aided in decreasing my own doubts and misgivings. I now feel connected with others like myself. Thank you for the support. S.M. Stitt... Sue Marie Stitt

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT THERE WAS ANYONE AROUND THAT WAS DEALING WITH THIS SITUATION. I AM SO HAPPY TO KNOW I AM NOT ALONE. YOUR WEB SITE IS JUST WHAT I NEEDED TO "NOT GIVE UP". THANK YOU, AND GOD BLESS.

Just wanted to say I am so glad I happened upon this site! It is so great to know that I am not alone! that others have gone through the same fears and prejudices, pain, not to mention the plethora of health related problems going along with being morbedly obese. I am only starting out, but I hope for this to be a great start to a wonderful journey of self discovery, and change. Some change is for the better! I will lose, and win! many hugs Pam

This site has been wonderful to for me. I learned that their are thousands of people going through the same thing that I am. your site had so much information that helped me so much. Thank you so very much and keep up the wonderful work that you are doing.

I have learned a lot from the information on this site. I have visited every area. I found out everything about the surgery, found tips on getting approval, learned about benefits and dangers of the surgery, and most of all, I have found support from people who are just like me. It is nice to chat with people who have gone through (and are still going through), the journey I am just beginning.

Thank you very much to everyone who dedicates time and effort to this page, it is a true inspiration for all of us out there that think we can't do anything about our weight after trying a zillion diets, weightloss plans etc. Although doctors are blessings and can give us lots of information about this, it is not the same as hearing so many testimonies from people who have been there, and which can relate to our pain and suffering. This page has helped me by providing information about doctors, the different operations, the risks involved, and the successful people who have made their dreams come true..Thank you again.

To all of the people who have made the WLS website possible, I extend a warm thank-you! This is truly one of the greatest self-help/help websites out there on the WHOLE world wide web. I can't say enough about how weel this site has been made. It is soooo obvious to me (being that I, too, do web site design) that a lot of careful thought and consideration has gone into the planning of this site. Truly one of the best days of my life happened when I stumbled across this site because it literally changed my life from that point forward. The words of encouragement and support from so many like-minded people can spur even the meekest of us into ACTION and help us take charge of our lives once and for all. The great wealth of information (offering both pro's and con's in an unbiased manner) was truly the mitigating factor for me in my decision as to whether or not to have surgery (which is currently scheduled for Aug 17th 2001). Now, if only we could get more DOC's to participate it would be truly well-rounded !

This site has helped me tremendously without all the information I found on this site I probrably would not be making the decision to go ahead and have this surgery. I have read a lot of the bio's and surgeon information and that is what helped me making an informed decision as to what I felt was the right thing for me to do. This site is a great resource for those looking to find out good, reputable information about a serious topic. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!

This website has helped me tremendously! Until I found it, I was overwhelmed with negative information regarding weight loss surgery from people who are militantly against it. After I found this site, and read all the profiles of people who were struggling with their weight, just as I am, and saw that they were dealing with living post-operatively and being successful, I thought that this could be me! Thank you for taking the time and effort to make this site available to us! I've found my life again!

I learned of this web site from a member of a support group from my surgon. The surgery is just a tool. In my case I was guided to Dr William Y Marcus. Dr Marcus not only got me through the surgery {even though I don't think I had a chance in surviving with or without the surgery} I was blessed! Dr Marcus also has a support group that has an e-mail group that meet twice a month. Plus there a woderful lady who works with the pre and post opps in regard to nutrician. His staff in his office is so helpful! He has a nurse named Jeanne who I truly believe has angel wings. This lady works 24 hours a day seven days a week. She is so awsome. I have to say Dr Marcus is just like a regular guy, he isn't like most doctors who have a nurse do all the patient work up. He comes to the support meetings along with Jeanne. AND if you have a problem He calls you back. The support group has a network of volunteers that leads the support group meeting and visits new post-op's in the hospital. If youi live in Maryland and are obease go see Dr Marcus. It will change your life.

I just wanted to write this quick note to express my appreciation for your support and information group. I have been a small person most all my life. I don't have some of the problems that I know that most of you do. What I do have is a phenomenal love for someone that has battled with her weight for most of her life. My sister is severly overweight and has been for a long time. I love her and always have. I support her through this and anything else that she chooses to do. She is a wonderful person and deserves this surgery. She has worked very hard to get to where she is today. My sister is Penny Torrence from Crystal Springs, MS. On July 3, 2001 I will be right there with her when she undergoes her surgery. I just wanted to let everyone know how greatful I am for the info and the support that she has recieved from all of you. It means a great deal to me to know that no matter what she nor I will be alone going through this. Thank you, Angelea Cooley

Also this new dr. I was intoduced to had no problem accepting my ins. That was a big problem with the first dr. I had a consultation with. I want to thank everyone who has played a part in putting this website together. :)

That is an easy question to answer. IT SAVED MY LIFE!!!! I heard of WLS about 8 years ago, and was told I had to fly away from home and pay out of pocket to have it done. I couldn't do either. I continued to suffer. I suffered my WHOLE life with this problem, until one day while looking for "ANOTHER DIET" I stumbled upon this room. I couldn't stay away. I spent endless hours, on my works time, searching the site and reading testimonies. I ended up finding my insurance and a doctor in my coverage area. Without this site I would have NEVER known that I could have this done. ERIC Thank you so very very much for having this website for everyone to find help. I tell everyone I know. I have seen other members make up cards with the website on it to pass out to those who ask how we lost the weight. I try to let everyone know that this site is one that TRULY CARES about you and your health. I could go on and on. I am so very touched and honored to be a part of this site. Thank you again. Good Luck to all

it is not hyperbole to write that initially logging in to obesityhelp.com began the process that saved my life! from that beginning has come the development of relationships with individuals who provided me with their experiences which led me to researching md's and particular types of gastric bypass so that i could eventually make an informed decision. it seems rather trite to say thank you to the creators of this website but i am grateful and i do thank you for helping me to begin this journey.

This web site has supported me with caring, loving people who understand being in the same predicament. It is an area where I can process, when I am not allowed to talk about my surgery at home! This site has saved my life by me meeting real people who are there to answer questions and show their strength and encouragment. It's interactive also with Chat and great guest speakers, like doctors who answer questions...live. It lets me know that I'm not alone! Pam :)

This site has been a true godsend for me. I've received so much support and information from many of the site paticipants. To the creators of this site, you have earned your Angel Wings! I have found this site to be extremely helpful in my search for support and guidance. I am having surgery on Sept 20th and I regret that I did not find this site last year when a dietician totaly humiliated me when I went for a surgery discussion with her. She told me I just did not have willpower! Your site gave me hope; It gave me a terrific support group; It keeps on giving me a place to write about my thoughts --with the hope of helping others in my same situation.

I am pre op and I went to my first support group meeting last week. I am pleased to say that other than having faces to put with the words, I have learnd about everything they discussed already from your website. My favorite sites are the questions, library, and the chat room. The whole surgery decision has been alot smoother because of you for me and my husband. Thank you for this awesome tool.

This site was the launching point for my WLS study and then surgery. It did not push one form of surgery over another, was professional, and had a wealth of information no matter what stage of the process you are in. Most importantly, I found my surgeon on this site, and the ability to read others' comments about him was very helpful. Now that I am 5 months out I don't check the website as often, but I recommend it to evry person I know who is investigating WLS.

Dear Kevin, I haven't had the surgery yet (Dec6th) so let me tell you what this site has meant to a pre op. I have lost and gained (mostly gained) all my life. Most people don't even begin to understand the pain and suffering that goes along with being overweight ...even if you have a good sense of humor to go with it. The humilitaion of not being able to participate in things your heart soooo desires to do. But you CANNOT. And even if you physically could, would we? We might be afraid of the way people might laugh at us. Anyhow, after years of up and down weight gain, I had decided it was OVER for me. I had people telling me I should pray and read the Bible and I had done all that. (My husband is an X preacher heaven forbid) Well, I sat down in my chair one day and said...I'M NEVER GOING TO TRY AGAIN. I CANNOT DO IT. And I begin to tell the Lord, I had tried it all and failed him. And if there were operations to help deformed people and people who had heart problems and other problems (like me) then why wasn't there something to help people overweight. But until then. I would never try again. Like a miracle a friend sent me a photo of his daughter. I'd known her for years nearly all my life. She had gained from 120 to 320 or so...NOW SHE WAS BACK DOWN TO NORMAL. How did she do it? Surgery!!! I nearly fainted. I asked her how to get to the web site. She sent me her link. Then the next Sunday my friend Rhonda (at church) had the surgery. She is looking absolutely beautiful. I knew God had sent me to this site. I HAVE NO DOUBTS. I may try and fail, I'm 58 years old. But at least I'm going to give it one more try and with God's help I'M GOING TO SUCCEED!!!!! I finally will be able to play with my grandsons. AND THE ENCOURAGEMENT each person who has written me has sent has been worth pitchers of Gold. About the time I begin to painic and run..here comes a success email!!! KEEP IT UP KEVIN. WE CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH. You ARE an angel for us all. !!!! Jacki

I have been researching the RNY Gastric Bypass for three years now, and i have to say, this site is THE BEST one I've had the pleasure to come across. I am so happy that I found it becuase it has a great amount of useful information, a chat room which helps alot, and it actually had peoples names and email address's from CANADA ! I am from Canada and haven't found many sites that have this, so it helps to know there are this many people out there with the same problems that I have.

This site has put me in touch with great people who have answer many questions for me, both before and after my surgery. I have found peers in my area who have had the surgery, doctors in my area who preform the surgery, and support groups in my area. Obesityhelp.com has been a Godsend to me! All the support, answers, articles, and information on Weight Loss Surgery that I could ever need! Thank You!

This site has been incredible. Initially, it was a source of information. As I was researching WLS, I was hungry for any bit of knowledge I could find to be well informed and aware of both the pros and the cons of surgery. After I had my initial consult with the Dr., I then had a site to go to for questions. Then the insurance approval process began and it has been my strongest support in gaining info needed to help get approval and to reaffirm to the insurance company how many people THEY approve specifically. Members of this site have been a strong support in answering questions, giving me tips on submissions to insurance and being a sounding board on my letter writing campaign. What it has done too is give me a function while I am playing the waiting game till surgery. I can not only be supported but be a strong support to other people. As a non profit professional, I know what it takes to get funding for programs and projects and also the criteria you need to develop a solid support program -- this site is incredible and I am thankful to be a Member. I would like to say thank you to the creators of this board, the moderators, and all the supporters. I have considered WLS for several months, but could hardly get the nerve to discuss it with my dh, let alone anyone else. Reading all the information, and supportive comments here, gave me the courage to finally investigate and explore the possiblities for myself. Thank you very much for opening these doors for me.

I wanted to thank everyone that makes this site possible. I would never have taken this journey without this site. Without it, I would not have had the knowledge of the steps of WLS, to know that what I am experiencing pre and post op are normal. To have help with the foods that I am eating. To be able to see the actual changes of other people that went through before me. Those were a god send. To know that somewhere down the line. That there is hope for me. This site is a god send to us all. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without you, I would still be 50lbs heavier(Surgery was Oct 4, 2001) and a whole lot more unhealthier. As a matter of a fact, I would probally have gained more weight!!!!!!!!! Thanks, thanks, thanks............

I TOO INDEED WISH TO EXTEND MANY THANKS TO THIS SITE!!!!! First, this surgery.....since I did not make the necessary behavioral changes when I had my 1988 GASTROPLACY (VBG).....and did not have any kind of support system prior to and/or post surgery.....I have gained all but 35 lbs. of my weight back. I have thus far had so many questions answered and feel like I have been given so much support. Secondly, it is indeed a journey that one should not be alone in. I did not stick to fluids for 8 weeks as Dr. Weber is instructing me to do.....did not have even 1 follow-up visit to the surgeon after the procedure.....and have un-done the surgery over the last 12+ years one M&M at a time. I have not disrupted my staple line.....however....my stomach pouch is very large as is exit part of the stomach. Before researching having a revision.....I was not EVEN AWARE.....that I could have a revision.....A 2ND CHANCE IF YOU WILL.....I was always told by Doctors'.....once I had the surgery.....it was for life. Now I have a second chance.....to eat right.....eat less.....while I still have a love for food.....I will eat to live.....and not live to eat thanks to the surgery.....and a little help from my friends and family. Thank-you so much for your site.....and I am going to make a contribution as well as post my before and after pics with no shame.....I will keep you posted as to my progress.

I was so glad to have this help..without having to ask. I really needed to know I wasn't "losing it"..as I screw up at details at work. Being anxious, about this life change, is a big step, don't let anyone kid you. Honesty is a gift right now, as my surgery is only a week away.

January 23, 2002
Without this site I most likely would not have pursued WLS as agressively. I'm now scheduled for a surgical consult and am amazed at how well designed the site is. I'm able to find information for every step in the process. Yesterday I used it to prepare for the visit to my PCP. Today I'm using it to prepare for my surgical consult and to gather information to give to my friends and family. Unlike other sites that are for specific procedures or surgical practices, this site has information that is useful to everyone. I've used this site to research my insurance, the different procedures and to get insight from people who have had surgery. I've found my surgeon here and am in contact with people in my area who have had surgery. Thanks to ObesityHelp.com I am on my way to being thin, healthy and happier and I'm not alone in the process.

This site has been a valuable tool to me in my WLS journey. It helped me with information that was not available to me without first hand experience from other WLS patients. It also prepared me for some of the stages of pre-surgery evaluations and the necessary delays at each stage. Prior to surgery I felt that I had enough information from patients that made themselves available on this site to make a well-informed decision to have the surgery. After the surgery, I was again given wonderful advise on each stage that I would and did encounter along the way to wellness. I was given one of the most important pieces of advise I could have ever had from one person concerning a lack in my supplement areas that made a huge difference in my level of strength. I was told the value and importance of taking B-150 complex supplements daily. The very day that I took my first one, I was able to shower and dress with out having to lie down and rest to regain any strength or energy. I have taken them every day since that time and my husband was so impressed with the immediate change that he also had added B-150 complex supplements to his daily regiment as well. Most folks, even many physicians, don't remember to talk about the necessity of taking these B-150 complex supplements and the difference it makes in WLS patients with respect to regaining energy and strength. I am not the usual age of most patients, as I will be 60 shortly, but these B-150 complex supplements have made me hard to keep up with even by those in their 30's. Take the test yourself and you will not be disappointed in the results. Thank you for the wonderful assistance that this site has been in my WLS journey! Keep up the great work!

The information that I found on this site has been of great value to me. This has been such an important and emotional step for me to make. This site has helped me get organized for my insurance company. This site has been a great support while waiting for insurance approval. I can not say enough good things about the help I have received here. Thanks to all who are involved!!!!

Without this web site I would have been set up to fail. Let me explain: I have an HMO that would not refer me out, they had a general surgeon do my surgery. The only pre-op testing I had was chest x-ray, EKG and blood work. The only instrustion I received afterwords was..."Stay on clear liquids until I see you next week". Then it was east anything soft and now it's I can have anything I want but only in smaller amounts. If it was not for this web site and all the great people that ask great questions and give great advice, I would know nothing. I would be drinking with my meals, eating things that do not allow me to use my tool correctly. I finally demanded a visit to a dietitian and when I had it, she even put me on a non-friendly WLS diet. She did not even know what dumping was. This has been my main source of information. I have met friends that support each other through the process and now I have become part of a great support group, all because of this page. Thank you for providing such a great service.

I came upon this site when I started researching WLS. I found many websites of people who had the surgery, but was still looking for more detailed information. Where do I begin, who do I go to, what would this actually be like, where am I starting and how will this end?
This site was able to answer all those questions for me and more. I have successfully lost 100lbs in 6 months and I feel like this was the best decision of my life. This site along with the surgery has saved my life. This is a wonderful community of people who are all on the same path. We understand where eachother is coming from and jump at the opportunity to welcome others and help each of them go through their own journies.
The support I get from this site is what keeps me motivated and wanting to continue on a daily basis to resolve getting to a healthy weight. It is proven that people who are part of a support group, have a much higher chance of reaching whatever goal they wish to attain, than people who don't have the support. I for one feel this site is a blessing to the Morbidly Obese and am so thankful for the kindness and wisdom of Eric Klein for creating this incredible place. Liza Branch 6 months postop down 101lbs

I can't even begin to say how this website has helped me in my quest for wls. I live in a rural area of WV and the resources available here are few for researching. I purchased a computer and never in my life would I have expected to find a site like this , that would bring wls to a new definition for me. So many questions answered, so many people who have chosen to tell their stories and show the results of this life saving operation. That is how I look at it, life saving. I have made friends via the net who have went through the same steps and who have guided me as I made my journey. Thank you so very much , all of you. All who have given encouragement by posting to my page, those who have emailed me and shown me that the world can be a loving and caring world. There are good people out there. Thank you once again.

Aloha My new Ohana(Family), I wanted to learn about Weight Loss Surgery. I searched all the search engines and ObesityHelp.com was on the top of the list everytime. This website is absolutely "The information Highway" on WLS. I have learned so much about the different types of surgeries, support groups, Surgeons in my state, insurance information. And it also led me to a wonderful and very supportive online group here in Phoenix Arizona. Kudos to you ObesityHelp.com!!!!!

I don't knw what i would have done without this site to help me. Im sure i never would have had the surgery. But talking to others my age, and how great they feel and all the photos and encouraging emails and posts boosted me on. I could cry. I never thought I would lose weight again and this time gone forever!!!! When i have a problem almost always someone is online to help me through it, if its late in the night, then i post or send an email and boom the answers come. I don't try to tell others this surgery is for them!!!! Thats not my place. I'm not a doctor. I can only tell them what great things its done for me. It's made me healthier , happier, and the smile on my husbands face is worth a million!!!!

I found this website on my own and it has been a God send to me. Without this website I don't know what I would have done. It has helped me the most with any questions I have had on Weight Loss Surgery and also has helped me find people who live in my area, have the same surgeon as me and provide others with many answers to questions that you haven't even thought of asking yet. I refer everyone to this website as it is the best resource out there in the big world. Thank you to all those special people and angels that put out there own time to keep things going. God Bless you all! Susie N

I came across this website by accident as well, and I thank God everyday for it...I have been researching the WLS for over a year now...and through my struggles with Insurance, Doctors, Surgeons, Hospitals...(shall I go on?) I can find any information I need and tons of support!!! There isnt anything here in regards to WLS, or issues of being obese that you wont be able to find...there is someone here that will answer your questions....I have met a new family....I can always count on this site for my rock....I have been on tons of sites for Obesity...as I am a regular web searher...and this tops it...I have to admit I no longer search on the web for anything that has to WLS or obesity..or even just support for that matter...This site does it for me now...and I will admit I also am a Obesityhelp.com addict..LOL....Shari

One night I was upset just thinking about all the money I've spent trying to loose weight and the fact that I never could. I was so depressed, 19 years old and could hardly walk up a flight of stairs. I was sick and tired of fighting a loosing battle. I then remembered reading an article about a 25 year old girl who lost 250 pounds by having surgery. I got online and looked for more information. And like an angel sent from God, I found this site. The easy steps helped me research research and research some more. It had everything I needed! I was so thrilled! Unlike other website, this site isn't trying to sell WLS, it's just people sharing their stories in hope to help others. It connects people around the world and gives you the chance to talk to others and ask questions. You don't even get that with going to your doctor because chances are, your doc has never had WLS. And even if there is a support group, they are not there for you 24 hours a day. Also, this site wants you to look at all your options! When I first came to this sight, I didn't even have health insurence. Thanks to referrals, I have a wonderful health provider that does cover this surgery. You see, if I did not have that, I may have picked the wrong insurer. If that would have happened, I would have had the biggest run around. I am now pre op and on this site for support everyday. I know what I'm getting into and I know what to expect. That is priceless. I've been able to ask others about my surgeon before I made the hour drive to go see him. This is a wondersul site, worthy of recognition!

I started researching gastric bypass surgery last fall (2001). This site and the contacts with local peers has convinced me! I finally called and have an appointment for a consultation. There has been so much information provided here and I can't thank all the members enough. Thank you for this web site. It's been a God Send.

I am having surgery because of this web site. I have to admit that I have not looked at many other web sites about wls. I am amazed at the amount of information I have gathered from here. Unlike most people that post here, I have told a good number of people that I am having surgery. This site has been very helpful for me to answer the questions that I have and the questions that my friends and family have. If someone says to me,"well what if this happens", I usually say, "I will let you know the answer to that tomorrow". I then go home, post the question and have an answer for my friend the next day. WLS is often times reffered to as a tool not a miracle, I strongly believe that this web site is an excellent tool as well. It has truly been a God send to me and I am extremely greatful.

when i first came to this site in january of 2001 it was by accident. i was researching ways to lose weight. i had never in my life heard of a surgery to help someone lose weight! in all my years of being obese, i thought i was to suffer through diets and workouts that just made me more insecure because they didnt work. trust me, ive been on every diet, taken every pill, and bought every fitness video out there. as you all know, no results, no incentive, no dice. as i got to know the site, i found out just how many people feel the way i do. i found out just how many people suffer every day thinking that theyre trapped in (as i refer to it) their fat suit. i started out with the "tricks with pic's" moved to testimonials, migrated to the library, chatted for a bit, looked for doctors, labored over the insurance pages, and finally cried. YAY! A WAY OUT OF MY OWN BODY! no dice........my insurance wouldnt cover it. but you guys told me to keep at it, and now i have an insurance that does...now ive been approved, now im waiting for a surgery! now i have something to be happy about! and now i get to share with all of you, and im so glad i have you all to share with! thank you all for being there.

Currently I am in the process of overturning an exclusion policy regarding any type of Weight Loss Surgery with my insurance company. This was all thanks to this website giving me all the tools necessary, especially the sample letter. I was also able to find a more suitable doctor than the first one I met with over a year ago, thanks again to this website. I was able to learn more about the different types of procedures and had several emails with other members. I have been ask to provide this website address to my insurance company as well as other potential members. My hats off to whomever originated this site! What a blessing it has been.

This site is a wonderful tool of knowledge and the understanding of what all of us feel, act, and fear. I'm sure we all have done these things. I like to THANK everyone who has be involved in this beautiful site. It has given me the strength, to try to have the surgery. My Doctor is Dr. Sugerman, I am waiting for my approval from the insurance co. I am really excited over the operation. I will post my surgery date when I get one, God Bless All Of Us and Keep US STRONG Thank-you, Thank-you

This site has been wonderful!! I had my first consult.on 4/9/02 and knew only what I learned from the Dr.and staff that day(which was quite a bit of info!) I found this site and still learned SO MUCH more. It goes past what the Dr. could ever teach you about anything, unless he has had the surg.himself.I was still very scared about even considering this surg. until I found this site and learned all that I did from it. One thing that I like is the insurer page. I am very nervous that my ins.won't approve this for me and after reading all of postings on Aetna PPO, it sounds like I have a very good chance of getting approved! (Hopefully!!) So that really eased my mind alot. Also, the question and answer page in absolutely wonderful! After my first consult;I still had a few qusestions that I had forgotten to ask the Dr.and I came to this site, and found every single question I needed answered, plus some! Thank you so much for all of this information. You have obviously helped and touched alot of people with this site. It will be listed under my "favorites" for a very long time!

Searching the web, with web ferret one evening, while checking for the keywords gastric bypass surgery, I stumbled upon this site. My life has changed since then. This site has given me the tools and knowledge to actually pursue WLS, where as before I just stumbled from one diet to the next, destroying my body and my spirit. From how-to's to surgeons to support groups, this one site has it all. A-Z about WLS. I think that the person who created this site deserves a medal of honor, for all the lives they have saved, just by placing their knowledge out, for other people to gain from. Then of course, the posters here have done a wonderful job as well. Thank you all for saving my life!

This site is a LIFE SAVOR. If I would have found it soonerI probably would have already had the surgery. Everything I needed & wanted to know was here or answered by a user of the site!!!!!!!!! I CAN'T THINK YOU ENOUGH. I have found a list of surgeons I can call & THE BEST THING IS PERSONNAL EXPERIENCES OF OTHERS. THANKS FOR THE HARD WORK. IT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME.

If it wasn't for this site I would still think throwing up 3-4 times a day, even after one or two bites of food was normal after a VBG. I wouldn't have known how many people have experienced the same things I experienced. I wouldn't have been put on a path which led me to my revision last summer to RNY. I wouldn't have found my wonderful doctor. Most of all, I wouldn't have had anyone to whom I could ask questions and they would actually be able to help me because they could relate from personal experience. Thank you all.

I just want everyone to know if it wasn't for my mom telling me to watch 20/20 the other night on weight loss surgery I would not have even been here. I am thankful that I do have a computer because it is an information highway to me. I have learned so much about WLS and have had so much support on here it's so incrediable I could hardly describe. I spend most of my spare time reading people's postings and even click on new things which has been added recently. I'm so glad to know that there is a support group available through the internet. How I found the website is through research the night I watched 20/20. I couldn't believe how popular the surgery was and in how many people are turning to it for a life time change in order to help them live longer. I even read the memorials and really got choked up in reading them. It was very sad but they are no longer in pain any more and no longer have to put up with mental abuse from other people of how they look. I even read where someone was over 600lbs. to my knowledge and that he was waiting on the insurance to approve him and he passed away before it got approved. Then to come to find out after that he was approved but it was too late then. That really choked me up and was a very sad story. If anyone reads this for the first time please think seriously in getting into a support group before having surgery done. This has really helped me out tremendously. You aren't alone! I thought I was but I know for a fact I'm no longer by myself. The Lord will put people in your life to help you out you just need to know where to find the answers. Thanks so much WLS! What a great support group and information highway you provide.

This site has helped me tremendously. I have been visiting here for over 3 years, and it helped me along my decision making process. It has provided me with information, but also just felt like a comfortable place to express myself. Being able to publicly open myself up and describe my weight struggle has been very therapeutic. I have recieved encouragement and touched the lives of others by passing on the information I have received here as well as passing on the web site itself. I am very grateful.

This site has been the most informative and encouraging web site I have been on in sooooo many years. If there is ever any questions I have regarding the surgery, how to not give up when the ins is denied, what other people have been through living the mo life, how happy and encouraged they are after surgery, etc, etc, etc.........I am thoroughly addicted...I could never express what this site has meant to me and I'm sure thousands of others...thank you, thank you, thank you.

This site has been my most constant companion. The info was given to me by a lady in my Doctor's office on my first visit and most of the help I have received has been here. My Doctor just told me anything that would go through a colander. Any ideas for verity (which is very important to keep you sane while eating nothing but liquids and soft foods) came from here. All my questions were answered by fellow travelers on the Journey. Thank you so much for providing a very important service. Pat Ellis

Thank you for the best informational site I have ever used! It is brilliant to have patients share all of their stories, the good and the not so good. I learned so much and I am better educated on WLS. I feel I am now making an educated decision, not just an emotional one.

Eric, first off, I have come here a couple of times a day for over two years, both pre and post op. This website has been my main support group, becaause I never really liked ggoing to the in-person one offered by my doc. I love the fact that there are literally thousands of perspectives, people asking questions I didn't think to ask, a searchable library of information, with people giving their personal experience. The basic information is comprehensive and informative and has given me a rich and full understanding of the disease of morbid obesity as well as the most effective options for treatment of this condition and it's myriad constellation of co-morbidities. Reading about others experience helped me to identify what type of surgery I wanted, research and select a physician, and, most importantly, the personal support has helped me be compliant with my post-operative program. The fact that it has been essentially free has helped. (Although I remember donating and setting up some type of monthly billing that never went through....) Anyway, hope that helps with your grant writing. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Obesityhelp.com, how do I love thee, let me count the ways? LOL. No, seriously. This site has been the source of so much for me, I can ramble on for hours and still only barely scratch the surface. I am unable to make it to "in person" support group meetings because of work/kids/home-life, etc. And knowing that my friends here on AMOS are around 24/7 is better than any support group ever. When I was about 5 days post op, and couldn't sleep because of pain in my legs, I turned on my trusty laptop and logged on to obesityhelp.com, and even at 3:00 a.m., there were my friends in chat, and they got me through those hours...and helped me realize that I was experiencing depleted potassium levels, thus causing the pain in my legs. When I began having post op gall bladder trouble, again, through the library and the message board, q&a, and chat, I was able to learn "tricks" of the trade to help get me through the gall bladder attacks until I am able to go in for removal/tummy tuck. When I am feeling blue or upset, no matter what the reason, AMOS is there for me. I log onto this site at least a half a dozen times a day. I have made friends who are invaluable to me...and I have gained information and knowledge that has been helpful to other people who look to post ops for guidance through their journey. Every single day I say many prayers of thanks regarding this journey I have taken...for my surgeon (who I found thanks to obesityhelp.com), for my surgeon's skill, for the friends I have made, for the advice received and given, the opportunity to learn and be a part of a "family" who understands me...and for you, Eric Klein, who has given so much of himself through this site so that those of us out there feeling helpless, alone and battling obesity may feel not so alone and helpless...and know that there are battles to be won, and ways to win them. That's only scratching the surface of how this website has helped me and changed my life. Thank you for listening. And thank you Eric!! Your work here will never be forgotten, and you should be proud of the lives you have forever changed through this site.

Value to me? You bet! I probably would have never found out all the info I did with out this site. Chatting with others who have had the surgery, reading all the journals and just all the information here helped me to make the right decision to have this surgery. I visit this site every day and have been for the past 6 months. I would go through withdrawals if I didn't get the inspiration from all the "before and afters" every day! There are lots of sites out there, but this was the most informative and "personal" site that I have ever visited. If you can feel completely at home on a website, this is the one! I feel I am part of each one of the pre and post-ops lives by going through each step of their journey and guiding them through mine! I will be here as long as you are Obesityhelp.com!

This site was an answer to my prayers and such a comfort tool....I am 14 months post op and prior to my surgery I was told of this site... I was addicted, visiting the site at any free moment I had, learning more, hearing from others who would so lovingly answer my fearful questions and finding comfort from their emails and posts... Now, and a couple of times during this journey, I would panic, and post a question or message and before night falls, I would be comforted from emails and posts... just knowing someone shared my problem, my fears was so comforting... Thank you, AMOS family.....I have shared this site with everyone who was interested...

I have been overweight all my life. I found about Obesity Help from a group I was attending, and I feel it is nice to know there are others like me going through the same things. I have come very close to sealing myself up in my home as well as emotionally because of stereotyped public. I have learned so much on this site and feel it has opened a huge door to my new life. I found out from this site how to get started in living my new life such as, turning off the television and the urge of food will slow down (this really works) and how to start exercising by aqua-aerobics because this will help with the joints until I lose the weight. I learned that it is very important to get in the best shape before my surgery, I am still learning how to take care of my self before and after surgery. There are so many nice motivated emails of support from others who read the site. I would not have known as much as I do if it wasn't from obesityhelp.com I have new feelings of hope and faith, I feel my strength is increasing both emotionally and physically by the day and I owe it to Obesityhelp.com. Thank you for all you have done for me, thank you for pulling me back to life when I was drifting away from it.

I believe that this site is the only one of it's kind. Though there are many that offer information about Gastric Bypass surgery. I've yet to find any other (besides Obesityhelp.com) that offers information from the patients point of view, those who have experienced the surgery as well as those who have yet to and/or are undecided about the surgery. I truly believe that some good information comes from word-of-mouth. The fact that you can find, screen and get information directly from the surgeons is an absolute plus. I found my surgeon(shout out to Dr. Goodman)at this site. I continue to get much information and inspiration from the message boards, Q&A postings and the photo gallery.. Gosh do I love those before and after pics. I am well on my way to getting a date scheduled and will soon add my before and after pics to the gallery. I will be a member of this site even after I'm many years post-op. MANY THANKS TO YOU!!!

This web site is truly a God-send! It provided over 90% of the information that I needed to be sucessful in my WLS. From assisting me in exactly what is WLS and how to obtain insurance coverage, to pre & post care. The medical enviroment is slowly putting out data, but it is not from other patients, nor does it focus on the journey. I would not have had the WLS had it not been for this web site, I am committed to "giving back", my life is truly better because of this site, Thank God for it!!!

Thanks WLS!

As of today, I have, so far, lost 178 lbs. This site was invaluable to me before my surgery and still is. I am almost 10 months post-op. I have learned so many things here on obesity help.com. And I have also made many friends. I have so many things to share with you. I hope you have the time to read this-----I was so scared going into this but through this site I gained so much knowledge that it gave me the information and courage I needed to make the decision to have this surgery that has given me a whole new life. I found out everything from information on insurance, doctors, the different types of surgeries, the pros and cons, diet info., profiles of others, any question I could possibly have or want to know was addressed on this site. And I found comraderie and compassion. Thank you to whomever had the insight to start this and help all the people who come in contact with this. My life is so wonderful. I am no longer on high blood pressure or diabetes meds. I can walk into a room full of people and no longer be the center of attention-how cool is that? It's so wonderful to just be average. I rode a ferris wheel this summer. I could never have done that before. The bar would never have fit acrossed me. I do things with my family that I never thought were possible before. I am truly living and not just existing. Before I lived in my own safe little world where I only went where I knew I would be accepted. But now I can go anywhere. Thank you for giving me the tools I needed to begin this fabulous journey and for being with me as I continue on this marvelous ride. I belong to support groups and I always give new people the obesityhelp.com site info and everyone gets hooked on it. I don't know if any of this will be of any help to you but I just really want to let the person who is responsible for this to know that I will be forever greatful for giving me this second chance at life and all the thousands upon thousands of others who benefit from this site. I am on here almost daily checking on others and updating my profile every 2 weeks when I weigh in. Thank you and please continue to do the work that you do. It means so much to so many of us out here. I hope this post truly gets to the person responsible for all of this. I hope your life is truly blessed for all the wonderful things you have brought into my life and the lives of all the others who use this site. I will live everyday to the fullest for I too have been blessed.

This web site is an inspiration to me.......I told my sister about it and we are both enthusiastic about this weight loss alternative. The information given about some of the insurance companies from other people has been TRULY helpful since both of us thought we didn't have an ice cubes chance in hell to even think about this. THANK you so much!!!!!!!

I just heard about this site at a support group on 9-26-02 - not even two weeks ago and I must tell you -- This site is awesome! There is only one problem with it. IT IS TOTALLY ADDICTING! I get on here and read, read, read all that I can - and still long for more. But, if it weren't for this site, I would have given up when my insurance company turned me down. I got so many words of encouragement from lots of people here who told me not to give up. And because of that, I made a call to my insurer and was approved the same day! And here I am now waiting for my surgery date which is one week from today. Thank you so much for this place, where I can go with a question (or several) and get answers from REAL people who have been there. it has been such a blessing and I don't know what I would do without it. I hope this will always be here. I am on every day (and sometimes 2-3 times a day!) and look forward to it all. Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU! You are a Godsend! -- Pam Nicholson

This is the only site that I have visited that I continue to check on a daily basis. Prior to my surgery, I found this site and gainned a weatlh of infomation from people that had weight loss surgery. The photos proved to be more inspiration then I could emotionally handle. At that time I was unaware that a local group was being formed in my community. I contine to visit obesityhelp.com almost daily to see what people are doing that is working and to gain motivation to continue forward. Just the base of knowledge that is contained by the more then 100,000 memebers is awesome! If I had to pay for the type of information that I gain on this site I would need another job to do so. Being a part of a commmunity that invites doctors to come on and chat about surgerical procedures, reconstructive surgery and any other issue that someone has is so supportive. Where in this world would you find all of the offerings that obesityhelp has find that there is no monthly service fee? Thanks Eric and to all of the wonderful people that continue to make this site a big family! ~~KimmieTN~~

OMG!! This site has been a Godsend to me! I seen the URL one day while I was on compass.com and decided to check it out. This was at the end of June '02. I have since been to consultation, had my psych eval and am waiting on the ins. I am on this site daily, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day!! I know I couldn't find more info on EVERYTHING from being pre-op to post-op any place else but here on Obesityhelp.com. Everyone is so wonderful, caring and supporting!! Since being on this site, I have become a little less self concious of my weight around hubby. He didn't even know what I weighed until we went to the consult w/Dr. Inman. I have found people on here that I know and we have become friends...a distance family member and I have become closer and I have found out what a wonderful supportive person she is(love ya Nik!!). this site has changed my whole outlook on MO, I don't feel so alone anymore. And I could go on and on...LOL!! I LOVE this place!! (((HUGS!!)))...Bobbi

This site has been wonderful. When I started researching this surgery in April of 2002, I found this site through google.com. It has helped me out so much and given me so much infomation. Through this site, I found out the teacher that teaches next door to me had the surgery two yrs ago. I made an appointment with my surgeon and I will see him on 2/19/03. Its going to be a long wait, but I know it will be worth it.

This Site is the Best resource I have found for finding information to get this procedure done. It is virtually impossible to navigate the Pitfalls associated with dealing with the PCP, to the Insurance to Picking the right Surgeon. I truly would never have gotten through it had it not been for this site. I do not know what people did before the internet to get info! This site is the resource you can't live without!!!

This site is fantastic! I just happened on it a couple years ago. I was looking for something to help me lose weight. I had tried so many different diets. I started reviewing all that this web site had to offer. You get help and advice from people just like you who are going through the very same thing you are. You don't feel so alone anymore. I made a mistake a couple of years ago when I mentioned it to my family and a co-worker. They told me that I didn't want WLS they had heard too many horror stories! They told me they knew someone who had it and they lost weight to only gain all their weight back. So, I let them influence me out of considering WLS. So, I tried Weight Watchers again, Jenny Craig again, Herbalife, Advocare. I would lose a little and then run out of money and go back to my old ways and gain back the weight I had lost and then some. Well, finally a couple of months ago, when I was diagnoised a Diabetic I decided to go back to this site and start researching again. Through this site I found the WLS program and the surgeons, hospital that are on my insurance preferred provider list. I am going to their WLS seminar December 12, 2002. I am so excited to finally get this going! I have mentioned WLS to my husband and daughter again, they are still against it. I am trying to get them to look at the information, but I told them I am doing this for me. I have too! I have too many co-morbidities! Again, thanks so much for creating this very unique and helpful web community. It is a God-send!

I just wanted to say that this site has been a tremendous help to me. When I surfed onto this site it was because I knew I was getting the surgery, and wanted the information. I spent the 6 weeks prior to my surgery reading profiles, asking questions and just in heaven looking at all the before/after pictures. I went into surgery so much more informed because of this site. If this site had not been available, I would never have had the support system I had...and as scared as I was, I may have not followed through if I had not read all the encouraging stories. Everyone here is sooo anxious to cheer you on and help you. I am very thankful for this site! It's been a blessing in my life! [email protected]

This site has been helpful in providing answers to almost every question I can imagine. I think the only unanswerable questions would be the ones that left for your surgeon to determine. I also love the user friendly set up of the site itself.

This site has been wonderful for me, and my family. I actually found the site by accident when I was researching WLS. I've stuck with it, and have kept my profile updated. I've found answers to many questions I've had. It's helped me keep my family informed of every issue. If they have a question. I can come right here and look it up, and find it. From people who have actually been through the same thing I am going through. And not from someone who "thinks" they know. I think this and the WLS is a miracle. Thank you Eric for bringing this to us.

After spending countless hours researching gastric bypass and all the possibilities, all the best answers have come from this site. A sample letter of medical necessity, list of doctors in my network, a list of who was approved from my insurance and their experiences with them, pictures that made me cry, detailed info on the proceedures themselves, etc. I became enpowered regarding my choices. There was even a sample letter that someone sent to their doubting relative that I'm using with my family. I have all the necessary appointments and paperwork. Just waiting to hear from the insurance company and this site helps pass the time while I anxiously wait. Thanks to everyone involved. This site can be your best teacher and friend.Linda Tyler

This site is a God sent! I have been able to gather lots of valuable information for my journey into WLS. Although I haven't had my first consult, I will be attending a WLS seminar soon at the surgeon's office. I have also been able to find an angel Denise Richardson-Hartwick through this site. She has been superb and even used the same surgeon that I will want to use. Everyone who posts here adds their "grain of sand" and really contribute a lot. This has become my site of choice! Keep up the good work!

When I found this site, it was an answer to prayer. It hepled me to decide what I really wanted to do, and when I ran into trouble with the doctors office, you all helped me to see that I had certain rights, and to fight for what I knew was right. I did fight, and I am now getting ready for my surgery consult. Thank you for empowering me!!

This website is the greatest support system I could ever have imagined. I did a considerable amount of research on the surgeries, but by visiting here regularly, I was able to get more personal info than anywhere else. I continue to come here to "stay in tune" with some of the changes I have been going through since my surgery on 12/3/02. I find answers to my questions before I even know to ask them. Thank you Eric and everyone for being there for me and all of us.

This site has been an invaluable resource in gathering information and networking. I was able to benefit from the experiences of others who had gone before me and make intelligent decisions based on that information, especially in regard to dealing with my insurance company/medical group. I was able to find information about my surgeon, the hospital, my insurance company, and as I am going through these last days waiting for my surgery, I know if I have any questions about the tests I am going through, I have a ready community of support. THere is no other place like this on the web. I can intereact as much or as little as I please and no one judges me. The site is continually improving. I give it five stars!

No day seems complete without stopping by to see what is new. For me, it's like having coffee with a trusted & treasured friend. Not only do I benefit from the knowledge & life experiences of others, my husband has begun to read personal stories & surgical updates. He is now more informed also & comfortable with my decision to have WLS. He is even beginning to get excited and talks more freely of the surgical procedure. Your information database has answered all of our questions & eased our minds. When scheduling my appointment with the surgeon I mentioned this site and even he was glad to know that I had registered here. I have been everywhere on your site and found nothing but support, understanding, along with up-to-date information. When I have had questions it has been easy to find answers either from someone who has shared the same life experiences, or from the site staff. The chat rooms are pleasant, caring, & friendly. I run an on-line business and have added a BMI chart & link. Hopefully others will benefit as much as I have. It's nice to know that there is somewhere to go where people care. Kevin & his staff along with this site are a blessing to the obese.

Today is my 2nd anniversary for having gastric bypass surgery. This site was absolutely invaluable to me in making my final decision to actually have the surgery. The site gave me valuable information and resources to contact. It gave me such a sense of reassurance in making my decision. It did not sugar coat the experience of gastric bypass surgery at all. That is why I ultimately trusted this site as opposed to others. I was able to contact other patients and get real answers to real questions and concerns. The facts were laid out in a true fashion. I have recommended the site to many others, contemplating surgery. I thank God that this site was available to me when I was in the decision making mode.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who works on this site especially Eric Kline for taking the time to start this great resource. I have been in the process of getting everything around to get my WLS since mid November, I just yesterday turned in my final paper work to have my surgery approved by my insurance. There is so much helpful information on this site from the information on surgeons to the hospital reviews, the before & after pictures. This is such a huge step in our lives and we need the support of each other and everyone in our lives. I tell everyone with even a thought of WLS to check out this site. THANK YOU

About a year ago, I found this site when I was considering having the Gastric Bypass Surgery and I marked the web site as a favorite. This past year has been filled with doctor appointments and I was approved for my surgery in February. I started looking for this site again and couldn't remember the name until about 10 days ago, I brought down the Favorites Menu on my computer and there it was. I joined immediately and now it's an Icon on my desktop. I have never had such support, prayers and understanding from people all over the country. Even right up to my surgery on 03/11/03, people were asking me how I was so relaxed and not a wreck. I told them about this wonderful web site and all the people cheering me on, I didn't have time to get nervous. A million thanks to Eric for developing this fantastic support and information site. Without it and the wonderful people connected with it, I don't think that I would have had such piece of mind entering the operating room. God Bless!!!

I've had several people in my family that have had this surgery and I've been trying to get my paperwork together for a while. I've finally been approved and my surgery is April 7. This website has been a Godsend to me. The amount of information available is great, but the testimonials and especially the before and after pictures make me wish I had done this before now. I'm excited and anxious and I can't wait to be the one to post my new and improved picture a year from now in the hopes that I can motivate someone like me to make the decision to change their life. Great job and thank you to all the people who have posted information for the rest of us.

This site is the best thing that ever happened to WLS!! I had changed my mind back and forth about WLS several times. When I found this site, it helped me make up my mind once and for all. There is SO MUCH information and SO MUCH personal support here. I have made friends, and have received loving and encouraging emails when I have felt my lowest. This is a long process, and no matter where in the process you are, there is information and support for you on this site, from just considering surgery to being a post-op. It is so wonderful to be able to read peoples' personal stories. One can read all the "information" available on WLS but it doesn't prepare you for the human-emotional aspect of it. Reading peoples' profiles and journals helps to ease fears and provide knowledge. There are many WLS sites, but many of them are "book knowledge" only. This site lets people write whatever they want and share their experiences, good and bad. While waiting for my insurance approval it was so nice to be able to find others who have my same insurance and read their experiences so I could know what to expect. If I had not found this website, I may still have been faltering about my decision to have surgery to this day. I am thankful for the community and support that is found here -- only those going through WLS can understand what each other is feeling. Others may empathize and be supportive, but only we can know what we are going through, and it is nice to have a place to ask questions, vent, and receive support. Thank you so much!

This site has been the main information hiway for me. This is where I started my research and went from here to other sites of interest and information then came back here, joined the site and was contacted by a clinic (Liv-Lite) and they have taken my hand and paperwork and went forward with it. My insurance was easy on me, the clinic has been excellent and have answered more questions than I care to tell you I have asked, and I have read posts on here, messages, looked a pics ... THIS has truly been my starting point and I intend to stay close to this site throughout my process. Had it NOT been for this site, I am not sure I would be as far as I am now. In fact, I know I wouldn't be.

Eric, I can't thank you enough for this invaluable resource. Having WLS is a MAJOR life changing event, that requires much knowledge, info, and support, all of which I found on Obesityhelp.com. I just completed my 2nd RNY surgery, and anytime I have an issue, pain, fear or concern, I know I can always count on getting the info I need from this site. Lastly, when my motivation isn't where it needs to be, I spend hours in the before and after photo gallery, which ALWAYS changes my attitude around 100%. Thanks also for the personal emails you send out. That was wonderful to get both before and after my surgery. Please keep up the great work! Thanks, Dan Hait

This site handles every stage of the WLS process. No matter what you need help with, you can find it here. You are able to talk with others who are post-op and hear their experiences and talk to others who are having surgery at the same time as you. There are just so many resources here! I found my surgeon from this site. I had no idea that Dr. LeSage was preforming this type of surgery, but Obesityhelp.com did!! This site is just so great for too many reasons!

This site is where I researched and finally came to the conclusion, that this was my ticket to a healthy life once again. Knowing it is a tool and using it as such, only made it easier for me. I researched for 6 months, then started the process. From start to finish it took about 6 weeks. I will be 3 months post op on May 11th and I've lost 52 poundsas of today and over 30 inches. I feel wonderful and have returned to exercising everyday. I'm eating the right foods. I could careless for all the old foods I indulged in. Being able to bend over and tie my shoes/shopping without getting out of breath. Being able to play with my grandchildren has made i all worth it. I have since my surgery gotten off 3 medications and feel "Great" This site saved my life in many ways! Thank You for here for us. Hazel

This site has been a real resource for me. Starting out with all that information on who, what, when , where, what to look out for, questions to ask a potential surgeon - I am so thankful! And now the clothing exchange and plastic surgery information is indispensable. I know that it was my decision to undertake the surgery, but I literally couldn't have done it without this website.

May 7, 2003
I can honestly say that this site is truely amazing. I knew absolutely nothing about the surgery and before, during, and after care of your body. After researching every possible question I thought I had, I got the answers and through those answers came more questions and those, too, were answered. I am waiting for a date to have a consultation with a surgeon in my area, and without this site, if he would have asked me what I knew about the surgery, I would have known absolutely nothing. Thank you.

My life is very different now as a result of this site. Today marks 2 months since my surgery and without this site, I would not be where I am. All my answers, suggestions, support and information -- right here! Even is I'm simply having a bad day, there are thousands of people who read my post and always those that take the time to enlighten, educate and encourage me. Not to mention the people you build bonds with and become friends with. I make it a point to tell at least one stranger each day about this site. My way of giving back a tiny bit of what I have been blessed with here. My ultimate satisfaction will be when my daughter begins this journey. Forever grateful...

I just want to say thank you so very much. I haven't logged on for a few days and am so surprised at all the changes. You have really touched my heart. I love the personalized weight loss cards. You think of everything. I don't know you personally, but love you deeply for everything that you've done for me and my people. This is a place our tribe can come and be ourselves and have respect that we deserve and need. Thanks so much.

Since I discovered this WLS website, it has been a great source of information concerning the variety of topics; i.e. bariatric surgical procedures available, the hospital and surgeon reviews are valuable and the PEER support is fantastic! I have had some wonderful emails from others out-of-state and from mine...NY. Response from your volunteers has been helpful and your website is kept updated very well. It is a vast undertaking! You all do well and I'm excited about the new magazine that will be out soon!

While searching for all possible information on Gastric Bypass surgery I found this site. This is the ONLY site I found that was not specific to a certain group of Dr's. I gathered so much information from the message boards, profiles, Q & A section, library etc, that when I went to the consultation at my surgeons office nothing was a surprise and I was the only one in the group with a list of questions for the Dr.
This site has offered me answers, a way to find out if someone else, was or is experiencing the same things I was, or am, pre and post op, and many different views on every aspect of surgery, from what to do to get started, to feelings, trials and tribulations, ideas of what to eat and how to excell in weight loss.
As with anything, you have to sift through information and make choices that are right for you. There is plenty of information here.
I also appreciate the fact that EVERYTHING is allowed to post here, the good, the bad and the ugly. Anyone considering something as serious as surgery needs to hear everything to make an informed decision, and this site is a tremendous help with that.
I have been truly greatful for this site and all the information and resources it has made availble to me.

This site is the most informative site out there. Since I have found it, I have been on my computer non stop. There is so much useful information on every possible topic related to weight loss surgery. The before, during and after which are all important each in there own way. You can spend hours on here and still not get through everything. This is the only site I come to when I want info on my upcoming RNY surgery. Keep up the GREAT work.
   — Linda K.

June 22, 2003
This site has been my ONLY source of WLS information for the most part. I can't begin to explain - it is the ONLY place I can go to find out about ANY aspect of WLS - the pros and cons, the doctors and hospitals, the post-surgery foods/snacks/etc., what I'll need to bring to hospital, what the surgery is like, what it might be like at the hospital (my surgery is in 3 weeks, and if it weren't for this site I would not have know I was going to be in ICU, for example!) It helps me know what to tell others about my surgery, my activity level after surgery, plateauing, emotional issues involved, the amount of weight I'll likely lose, the importance of sticking to a strict eating plan, the problems such as possible stretching of pouch if you don't, leading to an end to the weight loss. From here I've learned of sources for the best protein drinks, mixes, snacks, and the vitamins I'll need, plus what I'll need to minimize the inevitable hairloss (which the doctors also never mention!) I feel that no matter what symptom I have after surgery, I can log on 24/7 and probably find answers given to someone who had the same symptoms before, and reduce my panic! I have been contacted by e-mail by people I've seen /read on this site, and felt "connected." This is not an all-inclusive list of the benefits of this website, but a start!

I have been a member of this site for almost 4 yrs now. It has allowed me not only to check my progress and recovery but it has also allowed me to make many new friends. It was instrumental in helping people start our own local support group and website. I would not be where I was today w/o the site.

This sight has helped me to make the decision on the WLS and given me the confidence to take the next step. Without all the feed back from the post-ops and the questions from the pre-ops it would have taken me longer to make the decision.

Dear Eric and all involved in this website. Finally a chance to say a huge thank you. I had my surgery on November 22, 2002. It is now a little less than 8 months since and am proud to have lost over 100 pounds. To say that I had questions would be a huge understatement. While I knew there was no other choice for me, I needed to know in detail exactly what I was truly getting into. 2 Weeks prior to surgery I started reading the wonderful library at the site. Right up to the evening prior to surgery I was busy finishing up the entire thing. My every question had an answer with someone or more that had gone through the same issues. Thank God for this site, and the many folks who stay on long after surgery to help the new-comers as well as some of us oldtimers get through the many issues even well after surgery. The site helps us all along the path so we are no longer living in the isolation and pitifully incomprehensible demorilization that comes along with morbid obesity. We get a new start on life and we look at everything in our lives with new eyes. I have a debt that I shall never be able to repay to all associated with this site and may I humbly say a huge THANKS. I am not a computer savvy person, so to be able to click on and find real people that had this surgery and their struggles and joy, gave me hope that I was having a hard time getting elsewhere

As of result of this site I have come to terms with the fact that I am super morbid obese. This was something that I wasn't willing to admit to prior to finding this site. This site is the best site as it is so open and honest about WLS, the struggles of pre op and the life as a post op. Tons of information is here at your finger tips as to where you need not go anywhere else for information. I am glad that this site is around and I am happy for the things that I have obtained from this site. It is also a place just to vent sometimes about everyday things. What is so cool is the fact it is a community about people and for people that are just like me. Eric please keep up the good work. I thank God that you had the vision and forethought to come up with this site. It is one that was well needed.

I am so addicted, and greatful to this site.I found a wonderful surgeon, I had a million and one questions answered by my peers, and I have met so many wonderful people here. Everyone seems so genuinely concerned about each other. I also love the fact that you guys (staff) send us messages as we approach our surgery dates, and the weeks following surgery.

Before finding this site, I was SURE that my insurance wouldn't TOUCH WLS. (since the book DID say "WLS NOT COVERED!!! AH HA! <*unless medically necessary!> Now I am feeling more optimistic. WIthin 48 hours of finding this website, I have been to my first patient education class for WLS in my town. I am very excited and hope to be a part of this site for years to come!

This is the best site. It has given me so much information, even things my doctor never thought of. Like a medic alert bracelet. Also I've made so many friends and have gotten so much support. I probably wouldnt have had the strength to do this without this site. Thank you so much!!

Without this site, my life would be a complete nightmare, why? because when I thought I was going to die from my symptoms, I have come here and had my fears laid to rest. This site is the site to end all others, I have recommended this site to many and to anyone I've ever come across that has or is considering the surgery. I attended a support group, but it was nothing like the feeling of support I get from obesityhelp.com. My surgeon, nor my local support group has given me as much information, as I have been able to obtain by coming to this site. I continue to learn and find so much valuble info from the people that frequent this site, I would shrivel up and become a depressed if this site were ever to disappear, there's no place else like it. Every, syptom I've ever had and may have in the future has been addressed here at one time or another. I love this place and the fantastic people that share of themselves so openly. Thank you, thank you, than you. Rosa, July 9 pre-op-300/ August, 265Post-op

Eric...thanks for the website. This is the one thing and the only site that I have visited and posted weekly monthly since joining last year prior to my surgery. Originally my first visit to your site was in July, 2002. I am post op 11/11/02....with 215 Pounds of Pure Fat gone forever. I've sent so many people to your website and will continue. Your site and the posts are inspiration for me and I need this @2-3 in the morning when everyone else is sleeping to help keep me on the right track. Looking at the post-ops before and after photos, success stories, horror stories from insurance companies messing with people left and right and the support that this website brings is PRICELESS...who can't even begin to imagine the hearts and lives that you've touched by having. I would support this website and only wished that others that can would. Hopefully someday I will be in a financial position to help one day. USE MY TESTIMONIALS-PICTURES WHATEVER IT TAKES ERIC TO GET THE HELP THAT YOU NEED.... Contact me asap: Robert

I find this site very very helpful and informative. It helps people help people help themselves. I learned so much and had many of fears conquered and concerns addressed. I contributed to the site since I know how much this has helped me and helped others. I want to thank Eric for starting and maintaining this site to help us get through issues that probably most people could never be able to help us with since they haven't been on our journey. Thank you to the ENTIRE STAFF OF OBESITYHELP.COM.

I had checked out many sites before I found this one, and you know, there was very very little information on those other sites. AMOS has provided all of the information that I have needed to get through this so far. I don't believe that there will ever be another site this wonderful. Don't get me wrong, there are other places to chat with others like ourselves, but they don't have as many people or as much information as you can find here. You have helped me in so many ways that I couldn't even begin to list them all. The people on here have been so wonderful and caring, given wonderful advice and support, more than I could have found anywhere else. So, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you....I could never say it enough. (((HUGS))) God bless to all and this site.

I cannot begin to count the number of times I have logged into this site, as I was looking for answers to questions, deciding what was right for me, appealing insurance denials, and not only finding answers to questions, but finding questions that need answers before moving forward. Every step of my journey Obesityhelp.com has been a MAJOR part of the support. The chat room has been a Godsend for me Post-op as I can ask those that have experienced things first hand. The time saved form calling Health Care Professionalsw, having to drive long distances for support, on so many things that are relatively simple for those that have been through it to answer. I am beginning to benifit, now as a post-op also knowing taht I am able to give somthing back to others that are just beginning their journey. A total win/win situation for all. The services you provide are such a blessing to so many. What a great model for the GOVERNMENT to follow in so many other areas of health care, as it continues to become a major crisis in the medical and funding environment of our times. My Sincere Gratitude and Admiration is a small message for all th ehelp and success you ahve provided to me. very sincerely, james collins

I can't tell you what a blessing and a life saver your web pages have been. From the first time I started my 'journey' to my surgery date (it's MONDAY 10/20)your site has given me encouragement and hope. Most of us who are overweight have distanced ourselves from most of the world; your pages have answered all my questions and have shown me I am not alone in my journey. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I believe you have saved countless lives and enriched hundreds (maybe thousands!) more.

I have met one of my now closest friends thanks to this site. Plus, I can check in with the others I go to support group with and learn different ideas and approaches if something doesn't work for me. It gives us, the morbidly obese, a place to go where we find acceptance and encouragement no matter what ails us at the time. We have a common bond that allows us to reach out across miles and give each other what some of us have never experienced..the belief that we are valuable human beings with thoughts and feelings. Personally, I didn't need to ask any insurance help; but that itself is a valuable tool. And a week before my surgery my email, from you Eric, got me to focus on what I need to do in my final approach to my surgery date and that was something I didn't get from my surgeon. I am very very glad Obesity Help is out here and if you need any help getting the funding I will be more than happy to assist!

A Huge Hearty thanks to ObesityHelp.Com. As the name says, it is Obesity Help, not just for people who have or are going to have surgery, but people who know they are obese. I found that anyone is welcome who even thinks they are obese. This site has literally turned my life around. The Message Boards are so helpful, and the people on here, for the most part, are sensitive and know exactly what your going through because they, too, have been there. I believe this site will always be needed to help others like me. Thank You, again, ObesityHelp.com for being there when I needed you the most. Donna Ford

This site helped me by making is easy to a Dr that does the surgery. I didn't want to get the surgery at first because I had stomach staples before and I way 360 today. I relized I didn't have a support group and that is so important. Your site makes me feel like I'm notin it alone and there are people that will listen and help. I'm going to get the surgery. I just want to thank you for your web site. It made it easy for me to find a doctor and hospital right in my area. I have been on other sites and this is the best one. Keep up the good work. I feel as if they are close friends, and they all know me. This has really helped me out so much. I just want to let every one know THANK YOU so very much for being there and all the kind words, and just being like me in all ways I have relized I am not alone in many ways.. GOD BLESS you all.

This site gave me questions to ask my doctor, knowledge to chose what is right for me, peers, how to appeal my denial. I have wonderful support. My life was given back to me with the help of the people here. How can I thank them??? I know that they spend countless hours making this site work. I wouldn't be able to make the informed decisions I am without you. Thank You. May you keep being a beacon for others that need you. God bless

Obesityhelp.com has been my the bible to wls. It has excellent support, which everyone needs during their journey. I come here everyday for the support, if it wasn't for this site I would of had a much harder journey. Here you can find good informations and you can experiance different kinds of emotions, and share your inner soul if you like, most people are nice and share their kindness with you. It feels like you are at home here and you can make great friends for life. This site has picked me up many times weather it's morning noon or night, or in the wee hours of the night.Even after I get to goal, I will always come here to give support and to ask for support. Great support for obesity.

This site IS THE BEST!!! I'm spending a lot of time jumping through hoops for dieticians and doctors just to be told I've hurried up to wait. Now I sit and wait... wait to hear if all my tests and reports from my psyc eval and dietician and lab work have come back. Wait to hear if my letter has been sent, then wait to hear if the insurance co. recieved it. Now I'm just waiting to wait until my insurance co. ok's me or crushes me. So this web site has given me hope. I live vicariously (SP?) through all of you post-ops and I learn more and more every day about what WILL happen when the circus is over and the weightloss begins!! THANK-YOU ALL SOOOOOO MUCH, no one will ever know how much this site means to me!!

TREMENDOUSLY HELPFUL...........like a previous poster, I'm addicted. Information on this site walked me thru the process and thanks to being very well prepared, I saw a surgeon for the first time on 06/27/03 and had surgery on 09/25/03. I found all the info I needed right here. I check the site several times each day (got to stop doing that from work!). I do get a little distressed sometimes at some of the seemingly nasty responses from some people but generally, this is the BEST place to find information and support.

I have been to about 12 sites on Bariatric Surgery Information...ObesityHelp.com has been the greatest. The site it's self has been wonderful, and all the people, per-op and post-op, have been an important part for they have been the source of answers I needed. They have been detailed, honest, funny and friendly when answering my questions. The site surveys of Doctors, Hospitals and Insurance carriers is one of the most important things I look at and go by in deciding who to use and any problems others have had with them. The profiles of people who have gone through this journey and the people (like me) who are slowly getting there and seeing them with the same questions that I have has helped a lot. I know how hard all of you at ObesityHelp.com and I do thank you for this site! :-}

This site has been very useful to me in my fight for my insurance approval. I'm sure it will be useful to me both pre-op and post-op. Thank you - everyone - for your support and encouragement.

Obesityhelp.com has helped me in various ways for instance it has allowed me to connect with other people struggling such as me with weight problems and it is very informative through its members in letting you know about their experiences with a battery of problems from diabetes too just not having any energy also I got help right away with any question I had whether it was a member or the web site its self that supplied the answer. I am twenty-four and am awaiting my surgery date with Dr.Chapman in ECU, NC I was worried about having to have my gallbladder removed at the time of my surgery I was terrified of having to have open RNY but my doctor and some members I have talked to assured me I most likely would not have to have it open but also told me nothing is 100% in WLS so I would like to say THANKS A MILLION obesityhelp.com for enlightening me on WLS and I feel I am educated greatly about WLS through your group! Sincerely, Tammy Medford Rocky Mount, NC Twenty-four Bm.=52.5

Dear Mr. Klein; Words can not express how impressed I am with your websit. It is amazing! I am also deeply touched that you took the time to send me this email. You addressed a lot of the things that are stressing me. Thank God I had an appt. with my psychiatrist today, because I've been getting very frightened and finding all sorts of things to worry about. I know it's not healthy, but I can't help it. She used a great analagy. She said if you were getting ready to participate in the Olympics and wanted to do well, you would stay focused on what you have to do to be successful. This is what I have to do. Stay in the moment and stay focused on preparing myself for surgery. She has been my doctor for 7 years and is wonderful. I am frightened, and I do cry at the drop of a hat. Thank you for sending the links for me to check out what others are going through. I'm sure you don't have time to read all the profiles on the website, but I went through hell to get this surgery approved. It took two years and a lot of "hoop jumping". Thank you so much for giving me a place to get support, answers and understanding. You are to be commended. Fondly, Sandy Palmer

I absolutely love this site! Before I had surgery I joined this site and I am very glad that I did. I had so many questions and this site helped me find the answer to all of them. What a great source of information and support! I know I'll keep coming back for more and I just hope that perhaps I can help someone else as much as this site and its members have helped me.

This site has been very informative for me post op. I went into my WLS thinking I had all the answers but did not realized that my doc did not go into how my life would really change and what things I would have to deal with. I really thought that all I was goiong to be dealing with is portion control. What a wake up call! It is nice to know that I am not the only one going through things and I love to be able to share my experiences with others so they do not have the rude awakening that I did.

I found out about this site in my support group and I have been so amazed by it ever since. I researched this surgery for many years before deciding to have it and this is the most informative site i have stuck with i think one because there are hundreds of people just like me here for support or help or to encourage you. when i first started this process i felt very alone i had a great family but none of them understood what it was like to be obese. when i found this page i found a place where i belong and someone always willing to lend help and that is huge for me. We are a family here and support each other and i think that is the biggest help during this big emotional time. i am scheduled for surgery on march 1st 2004 and i am relaxed and ready for this amazing part of my life to begin and honesty would be freaking out if it weren't for the awesome support i have recieved here. Thank you all who help and for those of you who started this wonderful place you have truely changed my life. i will continue to be on this site as long as it exists. :) Melissa

I have looked at many other web sites and no web site that I have ever seen has had so much information, details and support about WLS. This has truely been my bible. I felt so alone about my WLS until I found this web site, I get help on my emotional issues, tips on diet and exercise and medical advice/tips not only on WLS, but also on PS. Many of us have also found some great new friends. I know we all would be devestated if this web site was gone. Thank you for finding a way to help me and others like me!

I love this website!!!! I only wish there was something like this when I was younger. This site gives people the opportunity to talk with others who have gone through the same situations. I am so pleased to be a member on the site that I tell everyone I speak with to visit. I feel so blessed that I came upon this site and coming here has actually given me the incentive to start my own support group for WLS and teens in need of someone to talk to other then family. I would like to thank all the people who made this site. THANK YOU!!!! BOBBI

I HAD BEEN TOLD ABOUT OBESITY HELP, BY 2 VERY CLOSE FRIENDS OF MINE. THEY JUST KNEW IT WOULD HELP ME IN MANY WAYS. YOU SEE I AM STILL PRE-OP AS OF THIS DATE, BUT, SOON I WILL NOT BE. This site has been a God send for me. It was actually instrumental in my decision to go forward with the surgery. I had been researching it for months, and "stumbled" across this website. After reading member testimonitals along with any and all information you had, I decided to go forward. I found info on the surgeon I was considering and was pleased with the overall helpfullness of the site. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago, and I don't regret it for one minute. The members of this site are like family. Everyone cares about everyone. I can't say enough nice things about it. Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!

This site has helped me through some very rough spots in the decision of a lifetime. I never use to post, just read the posts, and I saw so much love and compassion from the people here, I just knew what my decision had to be. i would not be alone...I would have all these wonderful people caring and praying for me. My own family has disowned me, so OH is my family. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

My journey to WLS began when I was a teenager twenty five years ago. I went to a doctor who gave me prescription medication including shots and pills. I lost weight but also began the rollercoaster ride that has had me losing weight just to gain it all back and more. Through this site: I have learned about the experiences of others so I was not at all frightened when I went in for my surgery. I learned about insurance company resistance, how to prepare, and how to overcome. I was not intimidated and did not give up the fight for my health. I met some wonderful people that have become lifetime friends. We meet for coffee and celebrate eachother's accomplishments, encourage eachother, and nudge when needed. Obsesity is one of the few remaining legal descriminations and through this site, members are treated with respect so they can realize they have not failed. Instead they are helped to find a solution that works. You cannot succeed without the right tools, WLS is the right tool. Hopefully this site can help enlighten enough of our world to make a difference. Enough to educate people that FAT is not a choice, but is a curable condition that should be covered fully under all medical plans. We are not leapers...we are someone's mother, father, brother, sister ... we are loved and love...we have worth and feelings, hopes and dreams, a will to live just like those with thin genes. Thank you for helping in this effort.

Eric, As a preop this site was my fount of information. I was here daily reading posts of postops and questions of other preops. I hit every link here and learned what my surgery was all about - inside and out. As a recent postop I used this site to journal to, complain to, and to cry to. The message boards were there for me to read though I didn't post a lot - I had a very hard early recovery and just needed to take and not give. Now as a 9-month postop and down 140 pounds and in a perfect size 14 with my life changing daily, as well as those around me changin along with me, I post daily, often more than three times per day connecting with others who understand, others who will understand and others who so desperately need to understand. What you have done here is invaluable to thousands of poor suffering and hundreds of thousand celebrating souls. There are no words to thank you enough.

This site has been an amazing help for me. I have known for couple of years I need wls. It was just a dream until I found this site. I was cruising the Oprah message board looking for answers the day Randy Jackson was on her show. I was reading a message some guy left and he said I know I can't tell ya'll about this great website on this board without getting in trouble but if you use the words obesity and help you will find it. WAAALAAAH!!! Behold, I found you guys. Praise God!!! To make a long story short...I found all my answers on this site and my surgery date is May 4th. I am so scared and excited all at the same time. Please keep me in your prayers and I will let you know how I am doing!

The information found on this site is so helpful and encouraging to someone who is morbidly obese!! Knowledge is power when it comes to having life-changing surgery. I have been reading profiles and messageboards while I was preparing for surgery as well as post surgery. I plan to keep an eye on the WLS community through the information found on this site for long time. To me, it is so encouraging knowing that you are not alone in this battle against the pounds. Our health is worth it and we need to let other professionals that Obesity is a disease that kills folks like you and me each day.

This site is one of the greatest tools in helping both pre ops and post ops... I visit this site 4-5 times a day... It was informational for me as I was deciding to have this surgery, it has been very instrumental as a learning tool and an inspiration as I wait to have this surgery and now that I have my surgery date, it is the lifline that I need to sanity. The information and support that you get from this website is amazing!! I feel like I have friends all over the nation who are praying for me and helping me along in this journey. The before and after pix are so inspirational... they give you hope... and the people on this site, they give you hope and peace and encouragement and friendship. Without this site, there are a lot of us that wouldn't be able to have the strength or the knowledge that we do!! It's amazing and I thank you so much for providing this incredible site, where we can all learn, celebrate, grow & LOSE together!!!! THANK YOU OBESITY HELP!!

This site has been an excelent tool for me before and after my surgery. It has so many people who are in different stages of the surgical process even those who choose not to have the surgery come here for support. This site does not discriminate against anyone. I love the support and enrichment I get here. This site is a family to me. By coming here daily I get the information and help I need to get me through an hour, a day, even a week. The information on this site is nothing compared to others that I've visited. Thank you Obeisity Help!!!

I think that the main message board has become viscious and cruel. I don't think you, Eric Klein, does enough to ensure that moderators are doing their job there. The language...the tone...the people...get away with so much and I think it's about time that someone does something about it. Suspension of accounts would be one way. Indefinate suspensions would be another. This site is starting to blend in with the others out there. Make a difference...change the way your site is handled.

This site has been a valuable asset to my weightloss surgery journey. I couldn't thank obesityhelp.com for all of the information they provide as well as being able to meet and read other peoples' journeys so that you're not so much in the dark. The one thing I wish obesityhelp.com would express more is the need that people wanting this surgery need to seek out a dietician that is very familiar with this surgery (if not already working with the surgeon). I read soooo many message boards that say "What should I be eating at 2, 3, 4 weeks post-op?" or "Is this okay for me to be eating?" when this should be something your doctor or dietician has already discussed with you way in advance. I just feel that some people are have life changing surgery only for it to fail in the end because they didn't get the information they needed to in the beginning from a professional. But from my view point now, still being a pre-op with a dietician that works at my surgeons center, obesityhelp.com has been a lot of help and supportive. Thanks!!!

I became aware of Obesityhelp.com shortly after I started considering if I should go ahead with the surgery. It was a big leap for me to just start CONSIDERING having the surgery. I think I knew once I began to research it, I would want to go forward. I visited the website occasionally in the beginning and then became hooked on the Q & A. There are such honest questions being asked. Sometimes they are funny, sometimes embarrassing, sometimes painful, but ALWAYS real. The responses can vary widely, but are usually very responsible in their content. I have used this website as a main support tool. As I decided to go forward with the surgery, I visited the site multiple times throughout each and every day. It kept me calm and kept me moving forward with my research. I absolutely know that Obesityhelp.com made me a better prepared pre-op patient and a better prepared, more knowlegable post-op person. I have been able to see the woeful lack of information some pre-ops have by the content of the questions. While I had a wonderful surgeon and staff, not all people have that fortunate resource. Quite frankly, it can be dangerous. I think that this forum has a wealth of information for all of us. Thank you for your efforts and keep up the great work. I feel a little off my gameplan if I don't start my day with Obesityhelp.com!

How is it different from any other resource of its type? This site makes you feel confident in the decision you make. This site gives you multiple ways to get information from many different sources so you can make a Truely INFORMED Decision. This site makes it easy to find all different kinds of information. This isn't a "specility site" You can find out about doctors, hospitals, products, support groups and insurance company as well as legal help if its needed. This site makes this surgery Safer and more Understandable. The before and after gallery is such an inspiration. The best part is the people, the chatroom and message boards also the profiles have helped, to read so many histories of after surgery is very helpful. The emails you get from others going through the same thing and incouraging you to be strong and praying for your wellbeing, there really are no words to say what this site has done for me. I would live out a very sad life with little hope if I hadn't found this place. Could you imagine being in a room with the people from this site, to have so many people in one place with such WONDERFUL hearts and none of it fake. I wish everyone here could be my neighbor. I Found peace of mind with my choice for Doctor and my decision to make the most of my life. This is someplace I will come for years to come. Thank you so much for putting this together. You saved my life.

This site was recommended to me by the Dietician provided by my surgeon's office. I have researched every item concerning this WLS on this site alone. I tried going to Borders and Barnes and Nobles book stores, but I just never felt like I was making a connection with the information provided. I didn't want to read about celebrities who have breezed through this surgery. I wanted actual facts. I have to admit that at times I was very concerned after reading the risks and the posts of the post-op patients, even to the point of almost backing out. Many answers were found here, not only from the links themselves, but also from the patient Q&A's. I had my surgery on May 20th and I find myself still coming to this site to compare my progress, feelings, etc with the other post-ops. Many of anxieties about my surgeon were found on the "Surgeons's Forum" and were in all quite helpful. This site is highly recommended for anyone considering and researching WLS. Keep up the good work and God Bless You.

This web site was recommended by one of the moderators at the suport group for my surgeon in Pittsburgh. My sugeon's site is very comprehensive, but doesn't include any interaction between patients. This interaction is the best thing I have experienced. Once a month at the suport group 75 miles from here just wasn't enough encouragement. Even though I don't often send messages. I read them all from WV and PA.

A friend recommended this site to me almost 2 yrs. ago when I first started to research the gastric bypass surgery. I was having so much trouble searching different sites on the web that I was getting very frustrated and discouraged. When I first pulled up your website I was very impressed at how much information was available and how organized it was. Any question that I had I found the answer to. I found a ton of helpful information on how to deal with and what to expect from my insurance company, what steps to take and in what order. I truly believe that it saved me a ton of waiting time by getting the correct information and knowing what was expected of me. I praise you guys all the time and tell everyone that I know about this site. Keep up the good work. This site has meant the difference between life and death for me and I'm sure many other people feel the same way. The people other people that visit this site regularly are GREAT!! They are so caring and comforting. They really look out for each other. I don't know what I would do without you and them. Thanks again. Lynn Grover

This site has been great in many ways, most noteably in being able to ask questions and get answers from people who have gone before or are going through what I am now. One suguestion. In the profile area there is no way to note you are "self Pay" it assumes insurance is involed and you are going through them. I was turned down once when trying to go through BCBS of fl. even tho Im 6'3" and 418 pounds, with agravating factors. Between finding a "special cash only price" at the "Wish Centers" whic cut the price dramaticly, and haveing a relative agree to help me finance I was able to schedule this sugury. My point is you should alter the profile options to include a self pay option, accordingt to my surgon roughly 10% of his new signups in the past year have been self pay. Thanks for the great site.

Obesityhelp is the best website for info on weight loss surgeries. It is loaded with facts and links to other sources of information. The message board is great for asking questions and info from others that have had or are preparing for surgery, it is great to compare notes. I also used the website to educate my family and let them read my profile and profiles of others. I had the easiest time so far with my wls and the obesityhelp site is one of the reasons why I was so well prepared for what might happen and what questions to ask as I went thru the process. I love the diversity of the site and the way I can contact others nationally or local. Now I want to give back to this site and keep it free and available to all.

Just wanted you to know that this is a wonderful website. I had so many questions and I found answers here. I was so nervous and worried, and I found people to explain things to me and calm me. Our Michigan message board is so great, lots of good people that support each other. There is no other site like this, it's like a one stop information fountain! I don't think I would have gone to an orientation meeting without all the background I found on AMOS. When I needed information in book form, that was available with a click of the mouse. Once I went to orientation and got their information, I went right back to the website and found out about each surgeon and that helped me make a decision on who I wanted. I am currently getting my last two appointments over with and then I will be waiting on the insurance company. It is so good to have people that understand where I am, and how I feel at each stage! Your website is a blessing, truly! Pam Rhodes

Hi Eric, To answer your question. I really don't know of another website where there is so much information available on the subject of weight loss surgery. Also the ability to have a free profile page to document ones journey in the quest for a more healthy lifestyle is really wonderful. It realy helps to read the stories of others who have been there done and doing that. The other thing I find invaluable is the local mesage board. I have formed many friends and aquaintences, and have come in real live contact with many of them at AMOS events or member get togethers. This is a totally unique site as far as I'm concerned, and I'm greatful to have access to it. Thanks for thinking of us!

I've referred hundreds of bariatric patients to this site because it contains the FACTS surrounding morbid obesity and the surgical and non-surgical options currently available. With so many "schlock" sites (glorified advertisements) out there, ObesityHelp.com is a beacon in the wilderness. There isn't anyone on the site trying to take advantage of a fragile demographic that is already abused and descriminated against by the media and the public in general. It is a blessing to have this morphing, growing resource at our fingertips!!

This web site was most useful to me in many ways it provided me with a welath of information about this surgery. 9/29/04 has changed my life completely. I've gained a new lease on life, one for the better. The best thing for me was that I've had no pain or any of the other symtoms of nauseau, vomiting etc. I can't say if this is common or normal but I'm glad with the overall experience and healthy rehealing that I'm undergoing. This site is helpful to people in need of information to be able to make the best decision possible prior to undergoing surgery. Best wishes to all who have undertaken the first step to a better life.

I came to this site after I had already been denied by my insurance company. I was ready to give up the fight. Then I started reading the message board, individual journals asn the before and after page. I was renewed and invigorated in my desire to lose weight and take back my life. I used all the resources this site has to offer (especially the love, support, and acceptance of its many members) and fought the good fight and eventually I was able to have RNY surgery, which saved my life. I again used this site for support, advice and information during my first year as a post-op. Now I am at goal, it is my turn to "pay it forward" and offer my assistance and support to the new arrivals. It is a pleasure and a priviledge to do so. God bless obesityhelp.com!

Dear Mr. Klein, Obesity help has been so helpful to me in soooooooooo many ways. Firstly, finding the support and information I needed to get thru the whole surgery process. Then the support thru comraderie with all the folks in the chat room who have been thru the same process. And ultimatly helping others who are seeking information and getting on their weight loss journey. However, the best news was in March of this year. Thru someone in the room mentioning another chat buddy needing some support, I met a very special man in my life. I called this man to support him thru his ordeal totally unrelated to his weight loss surgery. We had some sort of connection. Both of us coming from a history of medical problems and never having a real social life. We met in person, he came to NY from PA and a connection was made some 9 months ago. We just became engaged on November 24, 2004. Both of us have been and continue to be successful in our weight loss journey's. The best part is that we have each other to support and walk together in this. Mr. Klein, thanks for developing this venue, so that people like me could have an experience that I never thought would happen in my life time. Here I was a 46 year old woman in a wheelchair, never thinking I would be having someone to be by my side supporting me, let alone walking independantly, no more insulin shots, or checking blood sugars. I will now be 48 on December 4 and wearing an engagement ring on my finger, I ask you who wudda thunk! Certainly NOT ME! All the best and thank you again. Debra Rosenberg

READING THE MESSAGE BOARDS AND TALKING WITH OTHER MEMBERS HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE TO ME. SOMTIMES I CANNOT GET OR FORGET THE SUPPORT MEETINGS. SO I POST QUESTIONS AND GET ALOT OF RESULTS MY KIDS HAVE EVEN LEARNED AND BEEN ENCOURAGED BY OBESIETY HELP.

I have found this site to be extremely helpful, both before my surgery... to help find a surgeon and what to expect... and afterward, by reading what others that have gone before have had to say. I read your book, and have subscribed to the magazine also. I found that by reading and knowing information, by being active in the process... I have had greater success, and was not too shocked by the complications I had. I had a pretty good idea what others did to help themselves, and I found peace in knowing that they had gotten better. I love the help and information that is given, that there is no "b----ing" or too much complaining... or slamming of members, like on other sites. This site is professional, has a heart, and is helpful! Thank you so much, Julianne Loconsole

This site was the determining factor in my decision to have the RNY Lap surgery ~ I did research with Obesityhelp.com for a year and decided to go through with it. Did it change my life? In the MOST AMAZING way possible, I am now out 8 months, 140 pounds down and just shy of my goal and now feel healthier both physically AND emotionally! I am able to keep up with my 3 small children and give them the mother that they deserve! Thank you SO MUCH for all your information and wonderful staff and members, this would not have been possible without my initial contact with obesityhelp.com!!!

I can't begin to tell you how helpful this site has been. I began coming here about 7 months before my surgery. I have had every question that was ever in my mind answered here. I am now 1 1/2 months post op and I still come here daily to see if there is anything new that may benefit me now . the people on here are very helpful and nice. they answer my questions and never make me feel stupid about asking them. I just love being able to come here and read and talk to people who are or have gone thru some of the things I have with wls. thank you melinda mills

My goodness, I don't know what I would do without this site. I come here almost on a daily basis. If I have any questions I don't hesitate to ask them here. There is always someone who takes time out of their day to answer any and all kinds of questions. I love this site because there are so many people going through the same thing as I and we're all here to help one another. Thanks! Shirley Ann Hernandez

This site has changed my life. For years I had cotemplated weight loss surgery. After reaching the conclusion that I had to get weight loss surgery if I wanted to stay alive, I started doing research on the internet. I was able to find some very usefull information on other sites, but it was a revelation when I found this site. The message boards and surgeons search capabilities are unbeliably powerfull, but what is in my opinion revoloutionary is the profile feature. When posting messages and reviewing posts and responses for topics relevant to you, you find others with profiles that can be so moving, inspirational and informative. Keep this site going, it is saving lives!

I began my reasearch approximately 2 years ago. It was some small independant research that didn't provide a lot of information to the main questions I had about the risks of this surgery. I found this site through a friend who had just had her surgery. She told me that I'd find a second home here. SHE WAS SO RIGHT! I'm presently 8 months post op and have lost 145 lbs. I'm about 50 from goal weight and my TOTAL success comes from the first question being answered here.....WHAT ARE THE RISKS!!! I found out the risks (by being directed to a surgeon that I trusted) and weighed the good and the bad. I decided the risks were worth saving my life! THANK YOU ERIC KLEIN - this site has proven to be MORE Than worth it! I tell EVERYONE I KNOW about it!

This site is so great; I appreciate all the work you guys put into this; I've gained so much knowledge about gastric bypass; the doctors that are out there, help with everything to do with gastric bypass; the encouragement I get just going to the site is such a blessing; thanks again and God bless you all.

I have studied this site for about 4 years, gaining needed information at every level I was at. I hvae a date for surgery in the month of March, 2005. A date I would of never had if not for this site. The informative value is high. No where on any site have I found one such as this. I believe there will be many deaths in 2005 do to obesity and the lack of knowledge these obese people have. Why speed type diet pills are pushed instead of these truly supervised programs with better outcomes are ignored is beyond me. Well not beyond me< if I had to guess Id say dollar amount for the different tools to be applied. But this site is needed for those effected by the life threatning condition of obesity, The knowledge and support here is unsurpassed.

This site has been wonderful. I got the address for it from the booklet they gave us at the informational meeting for surgery. I had my surgery at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY. The outpouring of well wishers when I filled out a profile was a wonderful feeling. I have passed on the site address to other people. I recomend this site to anyone that says they are interested in the surgery. WAY TO GO. You are doing a wonderful thing, keep up the good work.

I'm about 2 weeks post-op. My journey began about June of 2004. I can't remember exactly how I found your site (I was probably searching under gastric bypass and it just popped up) but I'm so glad I did. Your site has been my comfort support and reassurance that this was a good decision. It gave me much needed help on nutrition (to supplement that which I received from my doctor's office)...it provided a window to the good and bad side of this surgery by reading about the experiences of others. It has excellent reccomendations on reading and researcfh materials. Total strangers sent me well wishes and prayers prior to my surgery and this helped enormously at that time. This surgeery is a long term commitment that will continue to change my (and my family's) life drastically. Knowing that I can turn to this site for support and information at anytime is a Godsend!

I can't even begin to explain how this website has benefited myself, others and my family. A friend at work gave me this website when I was interested in having surgery last August. When I came to the site and registered, I started reading local people's profiles and the state message board. I instantly decided surgery was the correct path for me to take. I have met some amazing people along the way and I haven't had surgery yet!!! I will continue to use this website and donate whatever I can to make sure that this resource is here forever! It's confidential but everyone shares everything! The message boards have helped me ask real questions and get real answers. Not just what the national percentage is but REAL answers. I don't know what I'd do without checking the boards every day and keeping my new friends updated on my journey. Thanks so much!

This site has been extremely helpful, as it gave me the necessary tools and resources to make an informed decision. I have not found another site like it, where you get not only the informational resources but the support of other beautiful people who can relate to you, teach you, and make you feel better. Thank you for this amazing website!

This site has offered me the support and resources to do the needed research to make an informed decision. I was able to check out doctors and hospitals as well. I knew what was necessary before I set up my appointment with the surgeon. I had my psych letter, my nutritionist letter and my Primary doctor's approval and authorization, the rest was just finding the right surgeon. The next part dealing with the emotions all this brought up, that I did not expect, but with this site I have been able to work through my doubts and fears, I'm sure I will be a little nervous, but I will be ready and committed to a healthier body and lifestyle. Thanks. I know the importance of support. I founded an on line support group also, http://groups.msn.com/CaringforElderlyFamilyMembers, its been a wonderful experience building the group, like having a baby, watching it grow and stand on its own. All of us have issues dealing with aging and assisting aging parents or family members, it great to part of help and healing....Kudos Barbara

Helping others post the journal and stories etc. to this site. I often browse around and see lot's of starters...but many aren't keeping current details. It's disappointing for many and could be discouraging for some. People need the journaling to help them with various levels of support and direction. Anything that I can do to assist others in using this site I will. I personally have journalized since March of 2002 each and every month...2-3 times a month. I have received numerous responses and hopefully have given good guidance, direction, encouragment and support for others. This has personally helped me ...like 3am in the morning instead of eating or fealing sorry for me. I think of others...this has been therapy for me so many times. Take Care~ Know his peace~ Have you tried the "UNJURY PROTEIN PRODUCTS" yet? Give them a call- 1-800-517-5111 or www.unjury.com Ask for Jerome. NEED SOME SPIRITUAL HEALING? Go to www.atwe.org

I didn't find this site until I was a couple of months post op. I wish I'd have known about it before. It took me 14 months from the time I sent in my paperwork until I had my surgery in Dec. 04. I have loved reading about people who have gone through this and seeing their amazing pictures. It has been such a help to me knowing that other people are doing this journey with me or have already gone through the journey. There is so much information here that you could spend hours each day looking at it all. I have found it to be very helpful and tell everybody I know about this site. It's a must for those about to take the step to surgery or even after for the support and guidance from others. It is designed especially for those of us doing the weight loss surgery thing and we can all relate to the problems and joys of watching our peers in their own journeys.

This is the very first time I went in to a chat room. Its an obesity chat room- at that. The only reason I did this is because I am desperate and was hoping for some help of somekind. But all the people knew eachother and ignored my question- one person acknowleged me but not very long. I will never go in to a chat room again- and it did not help me. I am desperate. I just didn;t know anywhere else to go.

how has this web site help me. i not sure i can count all the way it has helped me.. at first it was a place to just read and learn. then it was to ask question about wls stuff. then i started dealing with the insurance co. and it became a place to come and cry. I'M still trying to get WLS. and still i get information. what medication are not good for you when you have had WLS. what foods help the most at the start. how to make meals better. ways to cook foods to help them go down and stay down.. what if you have a problem with going to the bathroom? or keeping something down? or you feel dizzy or haveing mood problems.. Then there are the profiles and let me tell you the information on them are worth a lot.. they help people like me trying to get WLS keep going know that it works and keep on working year after year.. i been to other sites and this one is the only one i will come to it has so much more and the people are so helpfull.. the other web sites don't THE WARMTH THIS ONE HAS THEY DONT HAVE THE HELPFULLNESS. and i for one can not put it in to words. i just know that i send every one here who is looking into WLS. or love ones who have someone who is going to have WLS done. i will send them no were else.. i would like to see a place for letter to insurance co.. have to look up all the profiles for this information.. is hard if you had a place that said here are profiles that have letters to insuracne co.. that would be real helpfull. yvonne tx.

The web site has been a god send for me...after seeing my doctor a couple days ago and having to face the reality of my obesity, a nurse was sent from above to guide me to your web site. I have questions and concerns but most of all I feel blessed to have found that I am not alone in this journey. I have been depressed and felt I had no alternative but to live this way the rest of my life...I don't want to live the rest of my life in pain and misery...I want to enjoy life to it's fullest...being a member will give me the insight and courage to begin this journey and a loving supportive group of people to share every step of the way... Thank you so much

This site has been a life saver for me. I am bedridden and I do suffer with depression. I know that I can always depend on my OH family to pull me out of any slump I'm in. Well, all I have to do is come to Obesity Help.com and I know I'll find support from caring people who really know how I am feeling.

This website had benefitted me in more ways than I could possibly put on paper! First it put me in touch with thousands of others who have had WLS, the good and the bad. I felt more knowledgeable about the choice I was making. Second, I was able to locate a highly qualified surgeon through OH. Third, OH had provided me with support. As any WLS surgeon will tell you, a good suppport system is crucial to success, and not everyone is fortunate enough to receive this support within their own home and community. I also have been able to locate valueable resources through OH, such as nutritional supplements and books, etc. that are not available to me locally. I am so thankful for OH.com! It has truly impacted my life. Thank you!

I really just can't put into words what this site has done for me. It educated me when I first strted my journey. It calmed my nerves when I was days away form surgery. It eased my concerns as I began the journey It continues to help me in many ways every day. I assume I will be coming here forever. I am so proud of all of you for giving such an awesome gift to the public. Your hearts and souls are here on every page and it shows. I have reffered so many people here and I get saddened when I see those that only have a pre op post as they are inquiring about surgery, but then don't utilize the services you provide and build relationships with all the cool people here. I will never be able to express how much this web site has helped me over the last year. I felt like I had access to many friends who helped me know exactly what to expect, and how to prepare for this journey. It has been so helpful in knowing what is normal and what needs medical attention immediately. It has also, been valuable when the scales don't seem to move. God Bless and Thanks. Teresa P

I did most of my weight-loss research on your site. It is extremely valuable. Even though I was in the supre mobid obese category, I would not have chosen gastric bypass surgery had it not been for your site. You gave sufficient information to my family members. Had they not read your information and been completely convinced this was in my best interest, I wouldn't have gone for it. Eighteen months and 130 later and lighter, I am so greatful. Constance Pack

I found this site after I started on my WLS journey and it has kept me going. I find the profiles to be humorous, inspiring, encouraging and very helpful. I have spoken to 3 surgeons, and read numerous things on WLS. OH provides such great infomation on one sight. Not only do you have info on Doctors, surgery types, pros & cons, Its great to get information from people who are living with life after the WLS, to see what changes need to be made in my life, This website has given me a place where I feel others know what daily life struggles are for someone who is MO. It makes you feel more human and that you are worth getting help to save your life and to start living. Words cannot express the hope this website has given me. I appreciate it more than I can say. Since that decision I have been to numerous Dr. appt's and medically angled wls appts but was not able to find the human/peer support I needed to start this adventure. I was so happy when I linked from my surgeon's website to obestiyhelp.com and found the peers/support/??'s/stories etc...I feel empowered!!!!THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

This site has been a God sent. It is like having a whole new family, everyone is warm and helpful. I found this site because one of my friends had surgery 4 years ago and she told me about it. I am 10 days post op and it continues to be a wealth of information for me. Thank you Eric and my wonderful OH family. My pre op and post op were a breeze. I thank God and I thank you all for seeing me through. Alisa

I found this site through my surgeons nurse. I came on and just kind of lurked around for a while. I got the nerve finally to post on my state board. I became instantly hooked. Between my state board and the other one that I just love too I have found so much informaion, knowledge from others and just a close family relationship. If I have any questions I can go to there folks and they answers for me also letting me know that I should contact my doctor also to get their opinion. I have so much support from this web site I know I would be totally lost if I had not found it. Thank you Obesity Help for being there for so many people. You are a God send to many.

This site is GREAT. Without it I would not have known what to expect. I found out more here than from my Dr or my Nut. When I was scared I came on and everyone calmed my nerves. Just to have the support from this site is unreal. After my surgery my husband posted that I was out of surgery and doing well. He was amazed by the amount of people that answered his post with there thoughts and prayers. I am so grateful for this site..

ObesityHelp.com was initially recommended to my by my WLS surgeon. I have been a member for well over a year now and have found the site extremely valuable for a number of reasons. First of all, it is a "one-stop" shop for all the questions and concerns anyone might have about surgery, before and after surgery. There's plenty of information to be found in regard to dealing with insurance companies as well. Without this site I would not have had the confidence to go ahead with this life-changing surgery. Furthermore, there's plenty of opportunity to network with other people who have been through the surgery or are in various stages pre-and-post-op. The support obtained from the networking is invaluable. However, no matter how valuable all of the information and networking available is, my absolute favorite feature of the site is when I log in daily I can see a steady stream of before and after pictures. I have found this very motivating and it's gotten me through a lot of difficult times, times when I've questioned whether or not surgery would really be the answer for me, times when family members or friends questioned whether it would be necessary. In the end, the answer was, of course, yes. Surgery was the right thing for me. I'm so glad I did it and without the support of this website I may have been too afraid and uninformed to go ahead with it. And the truth of the matter is that if I hadn't had the surgery, my life would likely had been cut short due to the obesity related illnesses I've suffered. THANK YOU OH!

I feel that I have learned many things from my new friends, This site is a place where we can go to vent and to get a boost. You can talk surgery friends about things that you can't talk to your family about because they just don't understand.

When I attended the seminar I knew that VSG was for me, but soon learned that my insurance didn't cover it. So I decided on the lapband. OH is the place I went for information regarding the lapband. The more I learned, the more I new that it could be a potential problem for me. I live 2 hours from the nearest bariatric center, so the aftercare for lapband was going to prove to be costly for me - trips, plus time off work. So I started researching self-paying for VSG using OH as my guide. I contacted many people on OH who self paid and learned a lot from their experiences. I considered going to Mexico, and actually personally met a woman I met on OH to learn about her Mexico experience. One day, I was lucky enough to see a post on OH to check out the special price for VSG in Kansas City. I contacted the poster, and through her assistance, was on my way to getting my sleeve. OH offers so much "real" advise from real people. The good and the bad, helping me make the decision to do what was right for me. I couldn't be happier. Now I want to pay it forward to help other newbies in their exciting adventure called WLS. Thanks OH! Wanda McNeese

I love this website., it has helped me and I am sure many people, even if we don't have a question., we can read other questions and answers, knowledge is the key, This is a journey and I feel for most of us, after making the decision and committment to lose weight, this site has held our hand and given us information previous surgery patients didn't have before. Now this site and others help us all, so it's easy for us to give back with our knowledge, be it good or bad. Just thank you for being here for us all.

This site made all the difference. I researched surgery 3 years ago. The choices offered had bad side effects. Information was spotty and details after surgery was limited. This site explained the most current information. A patient coordinator must have received my profile and contacted me. This site has all the research information organized. Detailed comments on what to expect gave me the convidence to commit to surgery. The gastric sleeve procedure has freed me from years of slavery to my stomach. Just like pain is felt differently by each person, could hunger pains be more aggressive in some people more than others?

OH has been a Godsend to me. I've been a member for 2.5 years since before my surgery. It was the only place I could find all of the info about my surgery online, plus find the support I needed both pre-op and post-op. This website offers invaluable services. Thank you!

I found this site while sitting at my computer at midnight in June of 2005. I found a surgeon who was close to my home. I was able to e-mail that surgeon and I did at midnight saying how much I needed to have something done. Dr Tom Sonnastein sent me an email back that next morning and it all started. 10/17/2005 I had my RNY Bypass. I started at 311 and today I am 175. I am 52 years old and I have done great. The key I believe is making sure to follow up. Remember it is only a tool and that your past never goes away. You may say that the weight you lose is gone forever but it is not. You have to change your life in order to have a tool that works. It was hard to find a physical activity that I could do but I had to. I still to this day wear a pedometer to make sure I walk 10,000 steps a day. This site gave me so much support. I loved the before and after pictures, that was my favorite thing to do while waiting so patiently to get my surgery. You know telling people that you are going to have the surgery is hard to do. Everyone knows someone some where who had a terrible outcome. Hardly no one knows anyone who was a success. I am a success but I can never let my guard down. Thank you OH for helping me on this wonderful journey.

This site has helped me out in many ways. I first heard about this site back in 2009 from a dietitian when I started my journey to a new life, I'm still on this journery in post-op for about another two to three year or so give or take. I've learned so much from other OH members that helped me out in my time of need(s) and with questions that I had, I thank the OH members for helping me out. I'm still learning many things on this site. I'm very thankful for that. It's hard for me to say what I've learned on this site, but I have learned a lot. I hope this site is around for a very long time to come. I've met a lot of people and friends on this site, some of them has a similar journey that I have and the orther way around. This sit has changed my life for the better including myself. I don't know what else to say about this wonderful site, but...thank you!

In the early days of researching the various bariatric surgeries, I got the most comprehensive information from ObesityHelp.Com I then went on to read many posts, sometimes contributing, myself. Ultimately, through OH, I became a support group leader through your program. I am now hospital affiliated, with a growing support group. I am post-op for nearly ten years. I owe a debt of gratitude to OH!
