CONTINUATION OF TODAYS FORUM POST

May 01, 2015

Continuation of recent forum post.. May 6th will be 8 weeks since surgery for me.  It is hard to believe that it has already been that long.  Been some bumps in the road for sure but nothing insurmountable, all a learning (and growth) experience.  My oldest daughter is now about 15 lbs heavier than me and already inheriting a few of my shirts.  She doesn't qualify for and wls and is hardheaded as far as junk foods and sodas go.  My youngest daughter and her husband and 8 month old son came in from California for 6 days for a family get-together (1 year anniversary of my husbands' passing) and we spent the whole time on the beachfront in a wonderful environment/beach house.   This is the first they have seen me in a year and were very happy and surprised (along with my brother-in-law and his wife).  I still managed to lose 2 lbs while they were here.  My biggest SV is that on my tickers, my weight lost is now a higher number than pounds to lose  Only 6 lbs to Ondereland.  I haven't seen that since 1980.  Hard to believe it IS going to happen for me.  This is the best thing I have done in many many years and would do it over again, and again and again if I had to .  Just posted this in the VSG forum but want to add some personal thoughts in here.  My youngest daughter (Tiffany) is a personal trainer (not active right now though) and has been very supportive in this journey of mine.  She knows how many diets I have been on and never successful for long on them.  She was my biggest concern on her concept of WLS but there was no need for concern.  I read the forums every day and see the ones that don't have support from their family, being told WLS is the easy way out.  It definitely isn't.  It is a tool to assist with the weight loss.  I have to do the work, I have to fight the head hunger, I have to make the right choices, not the ones that got me to this point to begin with.  I have to be accountable for what goes in my mouth.  I have to pay the consequences for when I eat too much or the wrong stuff.  I am learning for sure and have not overeaten my sleeve in several weeks.. Not a good feeling when that happens, very uncomfortable being so nauseasous that almost throwing up feeling, and scared to do it afraid that I will damage my sleeve.. Scary thoughts for sure.   Recognizing and acknowledging the runny nose syndrome .. that one more bite just isnt worth it.  As one poster says and I repeat it daily (several times a day)  Nothing tastes as good as Fit feels.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY..04/18/15

Apr 18, 2015

Feeling pretty good today so far.  The diarrhea finally cleared up on day 3 but a little nausea remained for a couple of days. Need to get my house in order.  Youngest daughter, son-in-law and 8 month old grandson coming in from California for 5 days, be here late Thursday night.  Yippeee.  Going to see my VSG surgeon on Tuesday for 6 week check up.  Gosh can't believe it has already been almost 6 weeks.  Weight loss overall has been good but sort of a short stall right now, bouncing between 211.8 and 212 for several days.  Think it might of been due to being on the sick side, didn't get enough water in.  Keeping close eye on urine color and output though so not getting dehydrated.  Don't know how to count the fluid part in watermelon but that sure has tasted good lately, only a few cubes at a time.  PCP to be seen on Wednesday, having her run blood work especially renal panel.  Want to keep close eye on that since I am (?) type II diabetic.  Took last diabetic med just before surgery date (pre-op diet works wonders, numbers dropped to 74 a couple of times beforehand).  Not on any BP meds either.  Sugars this morning 99 (running between 88 and 99 for the past 6 weeks).  Everything looking good, tenderness in incisional area still.  Will address that with surgeon on Tuesday.  Someone posted earlier this week, "Hate my sleeve for what I can't eat now, but LOVE my sleeve for the same reason."  Love that.  So true.  Head hunger still a slight problem.  My blog is mainly for my own reference in the future but anyone is welcome to read and hopefully get something out of it also.. Any and all comments appreciated and welcomed..

DON'T FEEL GOOD RIGHT NOW

Apr 12, 2015

The past couple of days have not been too good.  My energy is down, I have had baddd diarhhea. I mean like it sounds like I am peeing type of runs.  Not eating much for sure.  Had a piece of toast toast today--didn't help.  If this continues two more days, I need to check with the doctor.  Been a little nauseated but not thrown up.  Just don't feel good right now.

HOW TO COOK FOR ME AND ELIZABETH

Apr 09, 2015

Finally pooped today (been 4/5 days) so feeling a little less bloated.  I'm keeping carbs down to 40, barely meeting 60 of protein, and at least 45 to 60 of water which I know is not enough.  Weight is not going too far right now.   Food seems to be staying in my stomach an awful long time.  I get the full feeling and it lasts and lasts.  I cannot eat for at least 6 hours and drinking is tough.  Having a problem with trying to cook for me and Elizabeth, my 10 year old granddaughter that lives with me. Her mom is here usually on weekends only.  I need to cook nutritious meals for her and something that I can eat also without having much leftovers.  Don't have much freezer space for leftovers.  Need to start shopping differently I guess.

A LITTLE BLOATED FEELING TODAY

Apr 07, 2015

Having a little problem with feeling bloated today.  Hard to get enough food in.  Only 15 carbs today according to my fitness pal.  Did get in adequate protein.  i think I started off with too much protein this morning.   Tomorrow will be better and different.  I did fall a couple of nights ago.  Hope I didn't do any damage to my surgery.  Will keep close eye on everything.

FIRST POST OP DR VISIT

Mar 23, 2015

3/24/2015  Had my first post op dr visit.  Official weight is 223lbs.  Dr was very pleased considering it had only been 13 days since surgery.  All in all I have been feeling pretty good.  He said my incisions were healing beautifully.  He also released me to start back up into water aerobics and the hot tub, just have to still go a little easy on other exercises for now.  No complaint from me on that.  I do need to get back into PT and he said that was ok.  These past 2 weeks food wise kinda suck though.. I do start on my 3 wk plan tomorrow..Yay!!!  He asked me a couple of questions and then asked if I had any questions, but quickly added that he remembered I had tons of research and asked questions previously, that I was going into this very well informed.  A large chunk of my learning has come from OH site and the forum and so many informed been there done that ppl willing to help and give advice.  I'm feeling a bit tired and can tell stomach starting to get its rhythm going, still very "talkative" at times.

UPDATE FROM SURGERY

Mar 22, 2015

Feeing a little nauseated and bloated tonight..Otherwise feeling pretty good.  Weight is doing ok.  Going to dr tomorrow for first post-op check in.  Haven't taken any meds in several weeks.  PCP stopped most of them with sugars anywhere from 101 to 124 fasting.  Yuk to the crushed pills.  Not good in applesauce.  Trying Angies method.  Choke Choke.  back to the applesauce.  LOL.  Urine output could probably be better I attribute that to the remnants of the stroke 4 years ago) but the color is good.. very pale to slight yellow tint.  Sleeping ok but waking up too early in the mornings.  Vitamins on track.  Low on exercise, haven't been released yet.  Need to start back up on PT for my shoulder and get back into the pool

IT'S AMAZING

Mar 19, 2015

Yesterday was my first day off clear liquids and I had the best tasting thinned oatmeal I have EVER had.  Granted higher in carbs but when only eating a little bit at a time Dr isn't so concerned about carbs at this point as long as the patient is being mindful of what is going in.  He has only cleared for second week thinned oatmeat, cream of wheat (which I am eating now and love), FF thinned strained cream of soups, applesauce, SF Carnation Instant Breakfast, soft noole soupsSF pudding, SF fudgsicles, Greek Yogurt, V8 juice low sodium, and the clear stuff from last week.  Someone had mentioned in my earlier post about chicken curry.  Sounds really good but I am not cleared for any meats pureed meats (pureed meats) until next week.  Can't wait.  But what I find really amazing is that just 4oz of the cream of wheat is so filling.  So, newbies (which I am too),m stick to your doctors guidelines and DO measure.  You too will be amazed. Have a great day

"TALKATIVE" BELLY

Mar 17, 2015

Figured out why my belly is so noisy and gurgly..  All the splenda in what I am allowed to have.  I remember years back when I used to travel every other weekend to see family that I would consume half a bag of SF sugar wafers (lemon yum).  By the time the 4 1/2 hr trip waw over, belly very active and noisy.  Well duh..  Need to find an alternative.

FIRST POST OP BLOG

Mar 15, 2015

Well today is day 4 from my VSG surgery.  How do I feel?  What thoughts have gone through my head these past couple of days.  To the most part I just wanted to sleep so as to get through the full clear liquid stage as quick as possible.  Of course have some tolerable pain where I have the incisions.  It was uncomfortable just to drink water.  I know I wasn't getting in my 64oz of fluids (all inclusive) but wasn't doing too bad.  Kept track of my urine color and output.  Color stayed good.  Output not so good so I forced more fluids.  Today being day 4 I have noticed that I am able to drink more at one sitting and a little larger drinks.  I think my swelling has finally gone down somewhat.  I am sitting here with my first cup of coffee too.  It's clear, decaffinated.  I did use about 2 TBLS of my unsweetened almond milk and 1 stevia.  I needed a change of pace from the water and apple juice and flavored water.  Managed to get down about 8 oz Isopure so far (out of a 20 oz bottle).  If I get it all down in one day, that will be 42gms of protein.  Need to call my doc tomorrow to see if he will allow protein shakes or strained cream soups.  I know, just hang in there.  Sister picking me up some Pepcid or Zantac today.  Never had the "foamies" so far but stomach sure is talkative and trying to make me think it is hungry.  I know better.  Gonna shut that little booger right up with PPI of some nature.  All in all, not feeling too bad.  Keeping my eye on the goal.
